Traders is a lovely hotel for stays of 1 or 2 nights. The rooms are very nice and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. They have a nice pool area to relax in but the location is actually about a 15 minute trek to Orchard Road which is no bad thing.

We stayed at Traders for 11/7 during which time the staff & hotel facilities were superb. We will certainly make Traders Hotels top of our list in future. The standard, quality & variety of cuisine was first class, & the attention we received in the Club room lounge was friendly & generous. The young staff in this area were a credit to the hotel and were able to give us tourist information on Singapore, which enabled to see so much, a fabulous place. Thank you Traders, hope to see you soon.

Great Hotel

We stayed just before Xmas before going to Australia and in January on way back to UK, 5 nights in total.
Also stayed in Feb 04.Great hotel, great attentive staff and only a 10 minute walk to Orchard Rd.

The superb pool is a great way to chill out after a busy morning sightseeing or shopping.

AH HOIs kitchen is a super restaurant by the pool and is magical in the evening and very reasonably priced.

The rooms are on the small(ish) side but well equipped with a huge bed.

We will definitely go again and would recommend to anybody that wants good service.

By far the best place to stay in Singapore. We stayed for Xmas and New Year for a week. The room was spotless and large enough for two people. The buffet breakfast is fantastic and really sets you up for the day (the buffet brunch is excellent too if you oversleep!). The free bus takes you to the MRT station and from there, travelling anywhere is very easy and cheap. Taxis are cheap too - it was too hot to walk anywhere. The staff were extremely friendly and the pool area is clean and green (although the sandwiches at the poolside were a little small). We went to the Marina area to where all the posh hotels are and it is a concrete jungle, lacks character and there are major building works going on everywhere. Traders is at the nice end of Orchard Road, in a quiet location and has some green around it - a real gem of a place and would definately stay there again. Great value for money and attached to a mall with a supermarket if you don't want to pay hotel prices for water, etc. Enjoy!

Great value for money

Stayed at the Traders on a fairly brief stopover to NZ and was delighted.
We arrived early on the first day and was delighted when our 2 rooms were available so early. For a fairly nominal amount we were able to upgrade to 'Traders Club' accomodation which gave us good accomodation on a separate floor and breakfast and drinks in a 'Club' facility on one of the upper floors.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
For us, the hotel was well located, right next to a good shopping mall which kept my wife and daughter busy. It is fairly close to the top end of Orchard Road but in a slightly quiter position and is close to the botanical gardens.
My only crticism would be of the bar facilities. The 'Rumpole' bar is laid out along the lines of a sports bar dominated by a giant TV screen showing sports - my son and I liked it but it was not a place to enjoy a drink as a family, and there is no other lounge facility in the evenings without sitting in the huge cavernous lobby area.

The loction was okay. It was 2 blocks from shopping.

Absolutely Not

Arrived at the hotel at 2:30 am after long overnight flight only to discover that they had allowed a guest to stay longer than planned and couldn't fulfill my reservation made 3+ weeks earlier. They downgraded me into a room that was way to small for my family. Management was not the least bit apologetic and didn't say they were sorry.

Too many other options in town. Not at all the service level expected from a Shanrgi-La hotel.

I stay at Traders frequently, on business & sometimes on vacation.
The prices are reasonable, the staff are great & really try hard, the services are slightly below par (getting hold of people on the phone can be tricky), the rooms are clean & fine (if a little in need of renovation now) & the location is great (top of Orchard, a short walk from Toys R Us).

If you want a slightly better than average business class hotel, with great people & a good location - book here!

Returned to Traders

I stood another 4 nights at the Traders Hotel and this is defiantly my choice in Singapore. In the meantime I tried some other hotels, but the Traders is a good value. It has the nicest pool around and there is Tangin Mall directly attached to it. Its just 5 minutes from Orchard road but its so much more quite. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the only missing thing is free Internet - internet access is charged by the hour and very expensive.

Don't expect too much luxury as in some other hotels of higher category - this is just 3 stars but very well maintained.

I expected more from this hotel. On arrival we were given a room that did not meet our booking, when we complained they could not accomodate us, but offered a twin room instead. We had to accept it, but I feel as though I was fobbed off, and this left a sour taste. The room was small, not really big enough for two people. The pool is ok, but the hotel feels a little dated, except for the lobby area which has been refurbished, as it is different to the picture in the hotel directory. If you are going shopping, it's best not to stay here as it is a 10 minute walk to orchard road, and in the heat this is not a good idea. You can get a cab for peanuts though.

Arrived at the Traders after having travelled for about 20 hours, and check-in went without a problem. We got two connecting rooms on 12th floor, overlooking the pool and ANA hotel, could spot the end of Orchard as well. However, one of the rooms was a smoking room, but oh well.

The hotel looks very new and modern, and with a total of six guest-elevators, you won't have to wait long. The rooms aren't the largest I've stayed at, but it isn't a problem to stay there comfortably for two persons. The beds were a little hard for my liking, but then again I prefer soft beds.

The pool was nice and large, and a nice spot to get a tan as well. Although, the outside "whirlpool" is a joke. The gym overlooking the pool was pretty good, and in the locker room there was both a whirlpool, sauna and a steamroom in addition to showers.

Located by the Tanglin Mall, it's easy to buy groceries or you could eat at the food court if that's to your liking. McDonalds and Delifrance is also located there. It's a five-ten minutes walk to the end of Orchard Road.

The housekeeping was really great, and the room was clean every day. Got a lot of complimentary water bottles as well! The one thing that was really outstanding about the hotel was the staff. They were really polite and made me feel very welcome. They opened doors for me everywhere, even if they were heading through the same door twenty seconds before me.

I stayed at the hotel for eight nights, and I would easily come back. In my opinion, this hotel is really great value. The only drawback would be the five minute walk from the end of Orchard, but considered I ate so much good food, it was nice to have a walk home.

Have just returned from a round the world trip starting in Singapore. Traders Hotel is reasonably priced with a high quality of service and good amenities. The guest and public room decor is up to the minute contemporary and incredibly clean as you would expect from Singapore. Just 5 minutes from the main Orchard Road area by foot, this hotel is also perfectly located. We did not eat dinner here but we could have spent all morning at the breakfast buffet!

Top Local Tips for Singapore

Singapore Botanical Gardens and Orchid Garden Definitely not overrated, a trip to the Gardens has to be a highlight of a visit to Singapore. Located a few minutes from busy Orchard Road, the exquisite orchids and tropical flowers and foliage (scented ginger lilies, palms, frangipani) are set amidst manicured grounds, winding pathways, and ornamental lakes. Contemporary sculpture and artworks punctuate the gentle landscapes. You'll see artists, joggers, families, senior citizens practising tai chi. Jewel-like colours and emerald leaves: balm for the soul.

Digital Camera If you are looking for a digital camera or ipod try a shop in Lucky Plaza called Southern Cross. I have bought several items from here and they are cheaper than the department stores. Make sure you price the item in the department store first and then go to this shop and barter a lower price. This shop will not want to lose a sale so keep bartering and you may save some money on your purchase. If you are not happy with the price they give you just walk away but they will soon reduce the price when you get to the shop door.

city tour and taxis If you are very short on time as we were then a city tour gives you an overview of singapore. If you prefer to travel around independently the taxis are very cheap and reliable.
