Great hotel, great location!

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott for 2 nights prior to a cruise on the Star Flyer. I chose this hotel on the recommendation of a colleague, and because of its location on Orchard Road, which couldn't have been more suitable.

The hotel is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the Orchard Road shopping malls. The foyer is calm and cool. Our room was well appointed but, as others have observed, not large. We were on the 5th floor, close to the swimming pool. The bathroom was very well thought out - the shower stall had two glass sides which made the room appear larger than it was. Soundproofing was excellent - we didn't hear anything from inside or outside the hotel.

The hotel has a variety of restaurants; we ate in one evening and the food was very acceptable. The breakfast buffet was very extensive.

The staff were very helpful and courteous.

If you're going to Singapore for the shopping, this is the place to stay!

Fabulous Location!

I had a fantastic 2 nights stay in Marriott Singapore. My purpose of visit was a weekend get away with some retail therapy. The location was the best thing about this accommodation as it's in the middle of Orchard street with the underground right beneath it. The service was excellent and the entrance to lobby was nice.

The only complaints are the room size and the decor which was a little dated. Since this was my shopping-eating trip, the condition and size of the room werent everything as I only came back to the room to sleep and drop of my shopping bags. The hotel may be too busy for businessmen or honeymooners but for tourists who would like to be located in central of town, I'd recommend staying at the Marriott!

Courteous staff; Smallish Room

I stayed one night at Marriott Singapore in May 2006. As I reached Singapore late at night and left the next morning, I had no time to check out the gym, pool etc. But staff was generally very courteous. Room was rather small, probably as a consequence of the shape of the building (roof is of Chinese pagoda type, making the building hexagonal). Priced on higher side, but experience was pleasant. and location is quite unbeatable if you are in Singapore for shopping - the hotel is next door to Tangs, 2 minutes walk to Isetan and Borders Bookshop, 5 mins walk to Takashimaya and Paragon.

The Marriott was a lovely hotel, in an even lovlier city. I am so glad we stayed here. The convienice to the MRT subway was such a great perk of this hotel. Also being located next to Tang's Department Store was great as well. Okay, location aside let's get down to the Hotel proper.

The staff is very professional and wants to see to any of your needs with a smile. The room we had was small but sufficient. It was clean and well maintained. The decor was a bit out dated, compared to some other newer fancier places. This hotel caters to the business traveler and we were on a holiday with our 14 year old daughter. We didn't see any other children there, accept at the pool where we saw 2 other kids.

It was great to have access to the Executive lounge and their food was good and filling and it saved us from having to spend on breakfasts.

I would stay here again because of the location, and good service. We did have one issue that went unresolved. I asked the concierge to try to find me a room with a harder bed. She took my info down but never got back to me. I just slept on my daughters portable wheeled in bed. It was good and hard.

Fantastic Stay

Just had three days a the Singapore Marriott en route to Brisbane. We were a little concerned after reading reviews of small rooms and outdated rooms.
Glad to say that certainly was not the case for us.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we departed we could not fault the place. Location was sensational. The rooms were not enormous but plenty big enough for us and our two large suitcases. Our children had an interconnecting twin and it was larger than our room. Both rooms were supplied with everything you could think of (even wireless internet) and the beds were incredible. We all want them at home.

The lobby bar was great for a cool drink or afternoon coffee, the breakfast was delicious and to sit at the outdoor cafe in the evening on the street and watch the world go by was fascinating.

Absolutely loved our stay.

Excellent choice in Singapore

We stayed here at the beginning of a round the world honeymoon trip. We had not been sure of what to expect in Singapore, and although we know that Marriott's standards are generally high, we also knew that this was located in the busy city centre of Singapore. SO we were delighted to find that this hotel was a haven - with large, comfortable rooms and excellent service. There is a swimming pool on the roof that is sucha tranquil haven, and iced towels with orchids are bought to you as you recline on sunloungers, overlooking the city's skyscrapers. All surprisingly quiet and refreshing. This hotel is in THE best location for touristy Singapore, and was a very pleasant place to start our honeymoon.

Stayed at the Marriott Singapore for three nights late July.

The hotel's location is one if its most important aspects in which I choose to stay in this hotel and I not wrong! Everything you can think of is just steps away.

It was a typical Marriott hotel but nothing special!

The rooms were relatively small but with nice furniture. The staff was fine. The breakfast buffet was somehow limited to other hotels I stay in like the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur.

Near the hotel are shopping malls and some food courts, an MTR "I think" was near by too.

Shop Til You Drop

Me and my husband stayed for 3 nights and we found this location to be ideal. The hotel is near the subway and major shopping. The rooms are small but nicely furnished. I was disappointed I didn't receive an upgrade because of my GOLD status or any recognition that we were celebrating our 4th anniversary. The pool was quaint but chic and the gym was decent. The restaurant was good and the food on the concierge level was wonderful. I would recommend going to the night safari although it's farther away.

Old rooms - horrible beds

Good things first: The Marriot Singapore is in a great location if you like shopping around in Singapore's shopping mecca called Orchard Road. It's just at the north end of Orchard above one of the distinctively high-end Tangs shopping mall. The cafe just at the entrance outside isn't bad either.

Once you make it into the hotel though, it feels like one of those slightly aged hotels in Malaysia if you know what I mean. Used to be quite nice, but someone forgot you need to go with the times and upgrade the interior as well. The rooms look like you are back to the early 90's. Dated furniture and the beds simply are horrible. What good is a hotel when you can't get a good nights sleep? I won't go back to the Marriot in Singapore anytime soon. Conrad or the Oriental are much better options.

Great place!

Cannot be beat for location and the service is really top class. Steps from all the shopping you could possibly handle, meters from an MRT station and cabs out front even in the busiest of times so getting around Singapore from the Marriott is a snap. Good, varied food and the spa employees are terrific. The unusual pagoda shape makes for oddly shaped and sized rooms but perhaps that’s the only "negative". The newly refinished pool area and also oasis just above the busy streets.

Top Local Tips for Singapore

cheap eats The food mall in the basement of the Lucky Mall is full of cheap and tasty Asian food booths. You can get a killer meal for $5 SGD.

Public Transportation/Taxis The MRT is very cheap to travel on and is a clean subway. I found it to be safe. Also I was surprised that the taxis werent expensive compared to Europe and the US. I didn't pay more that $25 for a 1 hour across island taxi drive.

You don't need a car in Singapore and food tips Get your EZLink pass on arrival and use it to travel around the island. If you tire of public transportation the taxi's are reasonable. Don't eat in restaurants ! Restaurants are for tourists with money to burn. Eat at hawker stalls and mall food courts with the locals. The food is wonderful and very reasonably priced.
