Top Local Tips for Singapore

blooming singapoe Take a trip to the Botanical Gardens of Singapore. Much larger than Kew and with all manner of exotic species. Miles of footpaths to stroll around and many interestig sights to see - trees, plants, flowers, shrubs, black swans, turtles, lizards, etc. Well serviced with clean toilets and convenient food stops this is a great day out and, best of al, it's absolutely free.

Disabled access Disabled access is not not as good as made out, many escalators have steps leading to them for MRT (Local trains) lifts are sometimes hidded away, or signs misleading, many locals do not speak English which does not help when asking for directions. Bus drivers know only their route, but do not know the hotels on the same route, we ended up many times frustrated and used taxis. Many paths are not wheelchair friendly either, pavements are known to disappear and we ended up walking on the dual carriageway, or there were steps leading upto the pathways, again the road had to be used, this road is a dual carriageway and very busy - Balastier Road. Do not use wheel chairs if possible on the streets, we never saw one wheel chair being used by a resident, only the tourists struggling along.

Use the train! And if you take a taxi make sure you buckle up! Taking the trani in Singapore is great. It is easy to use, convineint, and you can go pretty much anywhere. They are safe, and you can even get your deposit back if you return your railcard! Taxi's on the other hand are probably quicker, but most like to drive as if they are in a race. So remember to buckle up, and also check that the meter is set properly at the start of your journey. The taxi drivers are very nice though, and there's nothing to be afraid of!
