Great Hotel

from kksc
Stayed here for 2 nights in April 2007. Great hotel, very clean and newly refurbished. Room is comfortable and spacious (mine even has an LCD TV). The hotel staffs are very polite and friendly. Location is OK with a 15 minutes walk to Suntec City and about 10 minutes walk to the Bugis MRT station. Free parking is also available for in-house guests (front of hotel and multi storey carpark), which is very good for those driving in Singapore.

Great Stay

from steve15182
Stayed here for 2 weeks during the middle of January. Very nice hotel. Rooms were very clean and spacious with decent views. Pool area is very nice when the weather is good and staff all around the hotel was very courteous. Breakfast was delicious every morning and I miss it already. Location is a little far from the nearest MRT stop (10 min.) but otherwise pretty good. Close to a number of interesting sites and it seems to be a well known hotel among taxi drivers. The construction was annoying, but they kept it to daytime hours when most people should be out and about. I would definitely stay here again.

Clean and well located - but expensive for everything

from Wandering-codger
Our family of three stayed here eight days in January 07. Everything clean and well serviced as expected and bedrooms very comfortable. Pool is excellent and among the best we have experienced in hotels worldwide. However, hotel food services are below average quality and yet extremely expensive, especially compared with outside prices, even next door at Concourse Mall or across street in local food shops. For people who book on a budget, this is a good choice as long as you eat and drink elsewhere throughout your stay. We would book again because it is so well located to access everything, close enough to the city centre without actually being inside it.

Would have been great except for the renovations!

from Beezely
We stayed at this hotel 3 nights in December 2006 and 1 night on our way home in January 2007. We have stayed here quite a few times in the last few years. We were most disapointed when we checked in and were told there were no non smoking rooms available. We had booked at least 6 months in advance! We were told that they were also renovating and there may be some 'slight' noise between 10am and 6pm. Next day the jackhammers started directly above our rooms and continued all day for the 3 days we stayed. My mother who is elderly wanted a quiet time to get over the flight. On the second day she went to reception and asked could something be done. (maybe change rooms or something) The staff at the front desk rudely told her that nothing could be done and that we knew about the renovations when we booked the hotel! This was not the case. My mother then spent the rest of her stay beside the pool!
Apart from the rooms smelling of stale smoke, they were quite spacious and the bathrooms were ok. The pool area is lovely but no one seems to use it much. The breakfast was superb with heaps of choices. Taxis were easy to get outside the hotel. There are also some really nice little cafes across the road to eat.
On our way back the reception staff were nice but once again, no non smoking rooms available. Apparently they were now being renovated. So we understand that there is only one non smoking floor in the hotel!
I honestly don't know whether we would stay here again but maybe once the renovations are done it may be OK.

Very cozy hotel with extremely courteous staff

from W_From_HK
I'm from Hong Kong and I booked this hotel through SIA-holiday package and stayed there for 4 nights with my girlfriend. Prior to the trip, I had researched especially through tripadvisor, to look for hotels and turned out staying at Plaza Parkroyal.

About the Staff

I initally expected only lukewarm services, yet they exceeded our expectations. The hotel staff were extremely courteous, some even humurous (including the reception, concierge and housekeeping staff).

About the Rooms

Rooms are bright and well-furninshed, though the view of our room was a bit unacceptable (facing another building).
The washroom was overall clean but don't expect a 5-star washroom with great marble platforms. Also, minor leakages occurred when we used the shower.

About their Outlets and Facilities

Their breakfast had a very wide choice, including Asian and Western breakfast, the food was generally good but could be better if hotter. The swimming pool was fabulous and was definitely the best place in the hotel.

About the Location

10-15 min walk to Bugis MRT which would be quite annoying if you encounter thunderstorms. but it would also be a very nice walk if weather was fine.

Actually, there is a bus stop just at the back of the hotel, at Nicoll Highway, where you can return to the hotel through bus 14 (from Orchard Road and Suntec City), route 10 (from Lau Pa Sat and Raffles Place) and so on. In my opinion, returning to the hotel by bus is sometimes even faster than by MRT. All you need is an EZ-Link card.

A very nice hotel indeed. it would be considered as excellent when taking in account the rates that they charge. It is the software (the staff's friendly attitude) that makes all the difference. They definitely go the extra mile for service.

Great Asian food (Buffet)

from ipoh
Above average hotel. Great value for money, especially you are on a SIA-stopover. The asian food real delicious and full of varieties for a buffet. If you are bored and have days to spare. Hope onto an air-con bus normally leaving 9 -10p.m. on the Golden Mile, just100m on the same road, and the coach will bring you to Malaysia. Cost of living there is dramatically cheaper. Am sure everytime you stop-over here you would like to explore more & more.

Great value

from Bobbiee
We stayed at this hotel in 2002 and enjoyed the experience, so once again booked it for our December 2006 holiday on a 3 night stop-over to Europe.

Having emailed prior and made specific bed requests and being assured at the check in desk (at 10pm) that this was ok, we were initially dissapointed to be shown to a room not meeting the request. They finally got it right on the 3rd room we were led to and we had no further worries from that point on. The staff were very obliging and friendly, the included buffet breakfasts fantastic and we were overall very happy with our stay.

We had done a fair amount of research on what we would do on this stay with a marvellous Singapore Tourism site which gave us the MRT maps/stations and explicit explanations on what to see at each place and how to get to all the destinations we choose. It was fairly hard to limit what sights to see this trip in the available time. These were from one end of the island to another, sometimes involving MRT, buses and walking.

Singapore is a fantastically easy city to visit in this respect, we had purchased an Ezylink card for the MRT/bus and both trains and buses were very frequent, safe and clean on all routes travelled. (Visiting Rome immediately after this was a real culture shock).

We didn't eat at the hotel but at a gem of a restaurant /bar /nightclub just around the corner at No. 11 Bali Lane - a three storey green building facing the park. The staff there were fab and the meals low cost and just great. You walk past it to get to Bougis MRT which is a 10 mn walk 2 blocks away.

We did do one organised morning tour which gave us a good insight into the local laws, ways and customs - but felt it much more rewarding to research and 'do our own thing' and terribly cheap to boot!

We'll definately be doing more 3 or 4 day Singapore stop-overs in the future, it's a great way to avoid jetlag and see such a beautiful country at the same time.

Although a little away from the hub of the city, this hotel will be considered again.

Will definitely use again

from megsnan
I had previously stayed here 8 years ago and remembered it as being in a good location. It is opposite Arab Street, within easy walking distance of Bugis station, and a comfortable 10-15 minute flat walk to City Hall and Raffles. I also like the fact that it is low rise. Since my last visit, the hotel has had a face lift and the room was bright, with light wood furniture. It was comfortable and spacious with a big bed. The room faced the main road but the insulation was good and we barely heard any traffic.
The first night, we arrived around 8.30. At check-in, we were given a voucher for a free drink in the bar so decided to use that, and to eat at the buffet restaurant. We ordered from the menu, and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food so decided to eat there again the second night. However, we chose from the buffet the second night and, although there was a very good selection of dishes and no limit to the number of times you could go back, the food was only warm so we wished we had chosen from the menu again. There is also a more upmarket restaurant but we did not use it.
Breakfast was included in our rate and was very good, with a big choice of hot and cold dishes.
We were not leaving until evening, so asked about late checkout. We were told that this would cost more, so we stored our luggage and came back later in the day to chill out by the rooftop pool. We ordered some excellent sandwiches from the pool bar (don't be put off if it looks closed - they don't have anything on display) and then used the showers and changing rooms to freshen up before leaving for our flights.
We found all the staff at reception, concierge, pool and restaurant were friendly and helpful and will definitely go back next time.

Above average

from ms9
Room was clean, fantastic pool. Lowrise hotel, we were on 3rd floor. Had booked a Superior King Bed, arrived after midnight, and was told only non smoking double was available. I was disappointed. Hotel didn't really exceed any expectations, but I had chosen due to our scheduled late arrival a "high end budget option". There was no view, fresh water bottles were provided, there was a mini bar. Bathroom was not "renovated" in my opinon. Overall slightly above average for a budget end hotel, pool made up for everything. Spa services and workout on site, but did not use. Had a buffet breakfast, pricey but what we wanted for that day. Smaller size bar area with dance floor and DJ and tv. Restraunts onsite but did not use. Great location, can walk to anywhere you need. Used City Hall MRT stop. Walked to 24 hour mall at 4am and felt safe.

Plaza Park Royal - good low rise choice in a high rise city

from helenakitt
I was booked into an Orchid club room on the top (7th floor). Very nicely equipped and spacious with wooden floor and fittings and comfortable furnishings. Free Internet, breakfast buffet included and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. For the Orchid Club snacks are also available in the early evening.

The hotel and room was spotless, the service always friendly and excellent both in the conference facilities and the accommodation. The pool area is very pleasant and the pool is a reasonable size. The hotel also does a great lunch buffet for $28Sg plus tax.

My only complaint was I would have preferred a hotel closer to the MRT as this hotel is on the edge of the main parts of the City. But the hotel itself is hard to fault.

Top Local Tips for Singapore

How we did it. you'll have your own plans and planned destinations. Knowing what we did may help you. We took half day city tour on the first day, got our bearings and learned which places we missed or want to visit again. Got another tour for Sentosa. We went to orchard, bugis, suntec, on our own - all accessible via MRT. Dont miss night safari too. We had a day to spare so we got to golden mile which was near our hotel and spent just 24 hours tour - travel and sleep time included to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia got back to singapore for our final night/day. If you have lots of time (ie at least 5 days, you may opt to wander off on your own. If you're pressed for time, better take the guided tours even though you'll know they will be more expensive. Is saves the troubles of getting lost or taking wrong turns which leads to went to enjoy so sitback and let the guides do their things. If you want nice beaches though singapore pales in comparison to other south east asian destinations

Beware the package tours. Evening Safari etc We were heavily pressured the moment we got to the hotel by a tour operator to go on one of the night tours as we had very limited time in Singapore. We were told if we didnt book immediately we would miss out. Very tired after a 12 hr flight we gave in without doing enough research. Cost S$186 for the 4 of us (2 adults 2 children). It was very like a school tour and we were spoken to like children. The whole thing was done at a million miles and hour without any chance to appreciate anything. Our apparent evening meal although good was a light snack and we had to feed our teenagers again later in the evening. I would ercommend that you dont sucumb to the pressure and find your own way around the areas of interest at your own pace. Singapore is tiny, the taxis very cheap and good food abundant.

Best that we have seen anywhere in the world.. Why can't all countries be so organised and clean?
