Singapore or India

Located in Little India, hotel tries hard. Bar and entertainment on lobby level reasonable. Located a fair distance from downtown Singapore no real problem as taxis are so reasonably priced. Have a stroll around the area with its shophouses and markets and you could be in Mumbai instead of one of the most sophisticated cities in the world.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Parkroyal Kitchener Road Hotel

from Petemcc
It started with our double room having two single beds, despite the request for a double bed. The room was tatty, plaster coming off around doors, things not working, the beds looked 20 years old. The bar fridge had no water for which they tried to charge us. The info stated room safe- none. On the second day we came back at 4pm to find our room door wide open, no cleaner around. Beds had been made but no towels, no replacement teabag- yes one, or coffe sachet- yes one. Luckily nothng was missing. We waited 30 mins before ringing housekeeping incase the cleaner had been called away.
The lobby is nice, staff excellent, apart from that cleaner. Breakfast is cold, cold beans, cold egg, cold everything.
Renovations, bang, bang, bang 9am-5pm.

We don't normally complain, we are British, but we spent $150 a night for a decent hotel. We didn't get one.

On a plus point, it's in a fantastic location for Mustafas, the MRT and a few 7/11s, as well as places to eat.

Good Stopover Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Hotel New Park (also known as Park Royal Hotel) in Singapore while on a day-long stopover between flights. It's a neat and clean hotel overall. The lobby area is quite nice. The hotel is helpful in arranging any tours you may like to take.

The rooms are fairly average. It's just the basics for a stopover, nonetheless still very clean.

Don't forget your swimsuit! The rooftop pool and patio area is quite nice!

The hotel location is bordering the Little India area of Singapore. Public transportation isn't that easily acessible from this hotel, so we used taxi's to get around, which was fine. Once near the Orchard Street area, get on the Hop-on Hop-off bus which takes you to all the major sites around the city. It's the most convenient and economical way to see Singapore.

We arrived at New Park Hotel (now is called Parkroyal) at 25th February. The hotel is being redecorated and they gave us an upgrade to a new room on the 21st floor for free!!! The room was very modern, clean and comfortable, the bed was really kingsized, the view from the window just perfect! I really don' t understand why some other reviews for this hotel were bad. Me and my husband had a really perfect time. The breakfast had many different tastes and we were very satisfied. Tha staff was very polite and quick. The Farrer Park' s MRT Station is almost three minutes far from the hotel. If we come back to Singapore, that' s for sure that we will come at Parkroyal again!

Ongoing Renovated!

from Novice28
I stayed at New Park Hotel for honeymoon with my wife and spent for 2 nights. The hotel is located in Little India area which is quite exciting for us. The lobby is very clean but there is not enough cushions to sit and wait.

My room stayed on 16th floor which newly renovated. So the room is so clean and fantastic. However, I could not sleep from 7:30 am every morning because they are still renovating other rooms! Plus there is another buliding construction opposite the hotel. So you can imagine how they create the noise!

The hotel is very near MRT (Farrer Park Station) so it is very convenient for us to travel to Orchard, Sentosa and others.

Very normal hotel, suitable for short stay only

from mailme2reach
I had travelled to Singapore twice and stayed twice in New Park Hotel (not of my own choice, but booked by the company). The experience is not anything good to write about. The bad experience started the moment I reach the front-desk for my room allotment, my flight reached Singapore around 6:00am and I am at the hotel around 7:00am. Inspite of having a prior booking, the front-desk people told that no rooms are available till 12:00pm. This is the same experience I had in both my travels. So you can't do anything, just wait in the hotel lobby till u get a room. Stay is otherwise OK in the hotel, breakfast is very normal. Good thing is that they have an Indian Vegetarian counter, but if u stay for a week then u know whats the menu for everyday. This hotel is suited only for single business travellers only. Rooms are very old, plumbing is very noisy. Sleep is difficult to get as whole night you can hear people walking, talking in the lobby.
Overall the hotel is just a place to crash after the days work.

Older Budget Hotel

from lolabug
If you are on a budget and aren't planning to be in Singapore for long then you won't mind this hotel. Just don't come expecting luxury. The rooms are in desparate need of some redecorrating especially the carpets and linens.

I was lucky to get assigned one of the "family" rooms on the 6th floor which are much larger than the stardard rooms (which I have stayed in previously). The room has an extra area with table and chairs, a king bed and separate twin bed along with with the separate powder room area and bath. The closet space is also doubled in size.

The hotel is in convinient area near Little India and the Arab part of the city. The subway is a quick walk away to get you the rest of the city.

The pool area is decent in size and there is a small fitness room which worked decently.

The room service was always prompt and there was wireless internet on my floor (for a fee).

Not impressed - the tour desk was the best part! (They were very helpful and efficient!) Room was shabby and not very clean. One plus - great vegetarian Indian restaurant nearby, very clean and yummy cheap food (can't remember name but near Mustafa's and large premises - street behind New Park). Also close to rail for cheap and efficient travel into the city - just a couple of minutes walk to station, few minutes on train and you are in the centre of the city.

Sleepless in singapore

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed in the New Park Hotel for 4 nights. When we arrived we were told no double rooms available (although we booked this), so ended up with two singles. Room was dark and dirty. Toilet system was so noisey. We were kept awake all night by doors banging and could hear the next rooms conversation and television. We have stayed in Singapore numerous times before in 3star hotels so expected a similiar standard but was very disappointed. The only reasonable feature of this hotel was a clean pool, but that was all. By the way if you wanted ice it will cost you 3 dollars from room service.

okay at New Park, Singapore

from DelhiTraveller
The location is very good, adjoining Mustafa Centre in Little India, within easy walk from Ferrer Park MRT station of Singapore. However, I think I overpayed @USD110 per night inclusive of breakfast for two (breakfast for children was not included). The rooms (I stayed on 12th floor) are big enough to accomodate 4 people also. Stayed in two different rooms in two separate check-ins, so I can certainly advise to ask for pool-view room, if available. The lobby does not have enough space for sitting, and staff is courteous, often promising what they cannot achieve, I needed additional blanket at 11:30pm (did not want to adjust the aircon due to preference of others in the room), their house-keeping had already closed down and the reception said they would try some thing in the store, which never happened. At the time of check-out the bell person came after nearly 1/2 hour, and in the meantime they kept promising me "very soon" whenever I reminded on intercom. They also have internet enabled room @USD35 extra per night and internet cafe in the restaurant @ SGD12 per hour, but there are internet cafe that you can find for SGD4.00 per hour within easy walk in little India (near Mustafa centre) -- July 2006.

Ignorant/inconsiderate clientele

from kwaka58
After spending three days and two sleepless nights, we were glad to check out and head home. Trouble started with check in where we were told there were no rooms with double beds, thanks to my wifes ability to speak the local language, we eventually managed to get one room with a double. That was the last good thing about the place.

The lobby is clean and neat, but with only two out of three lifts working, and the large tour/family groups which this hotel seems to specialise in, any trip up or down could take up to ten minutes or more, not counting people just barging through in front of you. Rooms are definitely showing their age, bordering on shabby, and the plumbing is easily the loudest I have heard anywhere in the world. When returning from our friends room to ours, I could hear, in the hallway, a guest showering in their room, and I could still hear the plumbing in my room, six rooms away. Soundproofing is obviously something that was never built into this hotel, as I found out at three o'clock in the morning when a family unit decided to come home from Mustafas and let their "little angels" run loose in the hallway.

Breakfast in the "restaraunt" was very ordinary and although the service was there it wasn't anything to write home about.

Would we stay there again? Until the rooms are refurbished and the hotels owners stop pandering to the type of clientele who think that just because they can afford an airfare, that they have the right to be rude, ignorant, inconsiderate and generally be a bad advertisement for their country (did I forget anything??), definitely NO!!

The worst part about the whole episode is that it was our friends first experience of Singapore, and contrasted very noticeably with our time in Bangkok, which was a pleasure in every respect.

Top Local Tips for Singapore

Reliable Taxis Singapore has very realiable metered taxis can take you to any corner of Singapore.

Pulau Uban Make sure you go to Pulau Uban- a bum boat leaves from Changi Village costs $2 but the seafood and scenery available over there is divine. It is like taking a step back in time

Little India on Sundays! DO NOT GO TO LITTLE INDIA ON SUNDAYS. We had been warned also. It is very very very busy. Alot of pickpocketing and bag snatching goes on. We couldnt believe how many people were there. We took photos from our hotel room as a result. Any other day, Little India is wonderful!
