Good location, near underground station and lots of shops around. BUT: rooms not good for a 5 star hotel. really I would say it was a 3 star. Bathroom door was badly repaired and there was no shower in it, only the bath...
The swimming pool area looked a bit forgotten... Seemed to be and old hotel.
Not worth the money it costs. At least the 'normal' rooms, maybe suites are better...

Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Singapore Hotel

Great Service

from kam1974
After a long and gruelling flight from London, when I got to the hotel there had been a mix up with my booking and they didn't have my reservation. This was ultimately to my benefit, as I got a free upgrade to an "Executive Suite" with a huge living room, two bathrooms and a huge bedroom too. The room was exquisite, with great (twice daily) room service.
The breakfasts downstairs in the restaurant were huge, and set me up nicely for the day, and the cheesecake from the cake shop in the lobby was very moorish...

very good service

from Bobby1802
The Hilton Singapore is one of the older hotels in Singapur. certainly not fancy, but with very good service and very good catering. It is situated in the busy Orchard Road and with easy access to all shopping malls. The rooms are clean, quiet and modern. We also used the meetig facilities. They are a bit outdated, but the service and everything was fine. I expected less from the hotel with regards to some of the reviews. The pool area is o.k., well maintained, but nothing special. I found the gym very good and there are trainers there which give you advice and tipps. This hotel is good for business and not so much for tourism in my eyes. I can absolutely recommend it.

I have stayed at this hotel on quite a number of occiasions when on business in Singapore, and though not as luxurios as some such as the Hyatt etc, I do like this hotel. This time I stayed for 3 night from April 29 to May 1st. It is centrally located on Orchard road (just near Wheelock, where the large Borders is), and a short walk to the main shops on Orchard road. The rooms are undergoing some renovations at the moment, and the one I had, had been renovated since the last time I was there. Room was light, and there was a nice large flat screen tv. You could also hook your computer up to it, via a port next to the desk.
Bathroom amenities are from Crabtree and Evelyn and contain shampoo, conditioner, body cream, soap etc. In room broadband / wireless connection. Breakfast is nice, and I especially like the cooked ham on offer!
Only negative is the bathroom is a little small, and the shower is located in the bathtrub. But overall I like this hotel, and would definitly come here again

Very nice, only some minor niggles

from j889814672
I haven't stayed at the Hilton Singapore in about 8 years, so I decided to try it again during a 5 night stay. My room was an executive floor room which had recently been remodeled. The room was large, had a nice balcony, very modern, had a nice large flat-screen TV, very comfortable bed, convenient desk with power and internet ports handy (without having to re-wire the room) and large enough bathroom. The room itself is a strong positive, especially if you need to work from it.

Some of the negatives about this hotel are minor little things. The elevators are very slow, and there must be something wrong with the service elevators, because the staff - including maintenance staff and bell staff - are always using the guest lifts which further burdens the slow lifts. Can be annoying when it takes 5 minutes to get from level 22 to lobby.

Another little issue is that conversation in the next room is audible. Not annoyingly loud, but definitely audible.

A very nice feature is a VGA plug on the desk so you can plug your computer in and watch movies or internet TV over the room TV. Great if you have slingplayer or play DVD's from your laptop.

Check in and check out were convenient, and the exec lounge is nice, but only has continental breakfast, but a nice selection.

Overall, this is a good business hotel at the top of the Orchard Road area and I'd recommend it for the location and the nice executive rooms.

Great staff, roooms need upgrading soon

from erasmus_v
I stay at the Hilton Singapore 2 or 3 times a year, and each time it's the staff that impress with friendly, often personal touches. The bellmen greet my by name (or at least face), reception is quick - whether at lobby level or in the lounge upstairs - every effort taken to ensure my stay is made easy, and that I'm not inconvenienced. Housekeeping, room service - often long-time employees with a sense of pride in their hotel and service standard. I had chocolates sent to my room on my second stay.

I experienced a real sense of relief returning here once after my very disappointing first stay at the KL Hilton (which has since improved greatly).

That said, the property is long-overdue for an interior makeover (they've spent some time working on the exterior). The public spaces are mostly fine, but the rooms are dated, particularly cramped, 70s style bathrooms (even on the executive floors, where - as someone else noted - there is no difference to regular rooms).

The lounge staff on the Exec Floor are excellent, but the lounge itself (small selection of beverages, no computers) and scant other EF benefits make it hard to justify the extra cost (unlike at the KL Hilton - where the extra really is worth it).

The location in the day is excellent, with lots of taxis available, a short walk to the Orchard MRT, although with Orchard Towers just across the street and the 'live band' in the lobby evenings, it's a little less so after about 10pm.

The staff keep me coming back, despite the hotel fixtures fast becoming the worse for wear. But I like a plush hotel as much as anyone, so I'll be giving the Conrad a try (attending a function at Suntec in a few weeks), and while I'm sure it will appear less dated, the staff will have something to live up to.

Good central location.

from Napali
I've stayed at the Hilton Singapore twice over the last two years and have generally been happy with visit there.

The Hilton is clean, in good shape and centrally located on Orchard Road which tend to be one of the busier areas in the city. On our last visit we nearly bumped into the president of Singapore when coming out our hotel to the art exhibit on the street (no international incident ensued).

There are certainly more frilly hotels to be had in Singapore, but for a good location and a relatively low cost, the Hilton is a safe bet.

Good room and service, centrally located

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here for 1 night on a Singapore Airlines stopover deal.
Hotel staff were extremely welcoming, hotel and service was great and the room was also excellent.

Comfortable stay

from Steve Spellacey
Having just returned from a 4 night stay at The Hilton, Singapore, I felt I should write to express my positive views on this hotel. Having read a number of below average reviews, I wasn't too sure what to expect.
What I found was:
without exception - excellent, courteous & efficient staff;
a comfortable & clean room with good facilities;
a very good restaurant, with good food & lots of variety;

It's a 3 minute walk to Orchard MRT & my 5-stop journey to work took no longer than 20 mins in total on any day.
The availability of an express checkout was also a useful touch for me.

Excellent staff, good location. I'd certainly stay again.

Great Relaxing Stay

from G0urmet
My wife, four-year old daughter and I spent a long leisurely weekend in Singapore and stayed at this hotel. Our flight from Hong Kong came in late and we were delayed in the immigration for over an hour, yet the car service we ordered from the hotel was waiting for us and the driver apologized about the delays we experienced. While we checked in past 1 AM, all the staff was friendly and helpful. This turned out to be the beginning of a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

The hotel room was spacious, quiet and clean. We hate a few times at the hotel restaurant whose gracious staff accommodated every need of our daughter (coloring crayons, special order of fresh fruits, etc.). We had also a wonderful brunch at the hotel and a memorable gastronomic dinner prepared by a French Chef (Jean-Marc Banzo, a 2-star French Restaurant on the Michelin Guide) who was spending a week there cooking for the elite and giving cooking classes. At several occasions throughout the weekend, we went to the executive lounge for cocktails and were not only welcomed with our daughter but greeted by name by the staff. Throughout our stay, the concierge helped us at numerous times with finding out details and organizing our day trips (including a great excursion to Bin Tan resort), and made sure we were enjoying our stay. We were almost sad to leave as we truly enjoyed our stay, and recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

Run Down and Overpriced

from jt1929
This hotel is clearly skating by on its past glory. I stayed there three nights and beyond just the fact that everything feels generally dated, I noticed peeling wallpaper in my room and the light fixtures were broken. The pool area is also in dreadful shape -- missing tiles are evident on the pool and surrounding deck area and there's actually circa-1980 astroturf in some seating areas. My room was on the 18th floor. Perhaps others have been remodeled.

There were some good things (service in the lounge was excellent and the fitness room was superb), but in my view this hotel needs to be remodeled. As it stands now, it isn't worth the money and shouldn't be rated as category three in the rewards program.

Top Local Tips for Singapore

Taxis and the MRT Singapore enjoys an excellent taxi service. They are inexpensive, taxi drivers generally speak decent English, and (best of all, and unlike many places in Asia) they almost universally take credit cards. The MRT, however, is fast and efficient, and if you know where you're going has its own pluses.

Hotel choice Big international hotel chains not necessarily good.

Public transport Use the MRT.
