Wonderful experience for business or pleasurefrom A TripAdvisor Member
I loved the staff here as they were so helpful in everyway. I'm an Asian-American so I appreciated the breakfasts, extravagant and excellent buffet choices and have to say that they made the best egg white omlette I've ever had in all of Asia. (Their porridge was top shelf and merits an entry in Makansutra for best fish porridge) I stayed on the 30th floor and thus had access to the executive lounge with free drinks, wonderful hors d'ouvres with great views of the city. Internet access was very dependable.
I did not use the pool. Access to all parts of the city was easy and my local friends could drive by to pick me up without any hassle. Taxis were also readily available and cheap to get to anywhere noteworthy or otherwise.
Another convenience is the nearby shopping center with great restaurants and shops. A fun plus was to have one of the world's premier nightclubs just down the block. Zouk, Wine Bar, Velvet, and Phuture along with the hotel's own restaurants and bars made for a outstanding stay of 6 nights.
Besides, I'm not in the States anymore and I wanted to reminded of that. Small rooms? Who cares? The bed and bedding are 5 star quality. Great, clean bathrooms and well appointed. I would recommend springing for the top floors with executive lounge. I did not use the pool as I do not like to tan.
What a great deal for the price, coming from a fun loving, business traveller.
Fantastic Return Visit!from Dave148
Even though we arrived very late at night/early in the morning, check-in was prompt and the bellman quicly brought up our luggage.
Our 19th floor room was wonderful. A great view of the city. The bed was comfortable. Nice fluffy linens in the bathroom.
The next morning, we asked to have the pillows changed to non-allergic. My wife's allergic to feather pillows. They were promptly changed and they even left us extra pillows.
Breakfast was fantastic. Plenty of fresh choices. It's nice having breakfast with a view of the river through floor-to-ceiling windows. Prompt service.
Overall, a great hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded more touristy areas. I enjoy being away from the crowds. The hotel is across the street from several apartment buildings, so you get to see a lot of local activity.
Great World City, an indoor mall, is a five minute walk from the GCW. Nice shopping, including a grocery store in the lower level. Great for stocking up on munchies for our room.
There's a bus stop next to the hotel. It's a five minute ride to the Outram Park MRT train station. Cab fare to/from the airport as about SIN $14.
As expected a great return visit. Would defintely stay there in the future.

Never, ever stay here again !from sydneymolly
Yes, from the exterior the hotel gives the illusion of grandeur but step inside the lobby and basically you are in the restaurant. There is no seating /comfy lounges for guests or space for people to move about or wait. If you want to get to the 'waterfront' area you have to walk through the restaurant.
We had booked and paid for a particular room-type that was above the basic room yet this is what we were given- small & dingy at back of hotel. (I have since confirmed with my travel agent that I had definetely booked the better room despite check-in saying otherwise).
We enquired twice in regards to a smoking floor & were advised that there weren't any available yet clearly heard the guest checking in next to us being asked wether he would like smoking or non-smoking.
Eventually I was offered a better room & a big thankyou to the staff member who organised it without extra payment. This was the only friendly communication with any staff member.....mind you i was told I had to move my own bags from the first room.
Unfortunately breakfast was not enjoyable- we chose to sit outside and staff outside are extremely unfriendly/unhappy. We learnt quickley to set our own tables/ wipe tables/ get our own coffee etc... In fact we were told that we couldn't sit outside one morning for no reason whatsoever- people were already sitting there & tables were available.
Concierge is a laugh- a small timber desk outside near the driveway- and consistently unfriendly. Even enquiring about the shuttle-bus was a chore.
The pool area is very uninviting- very small for a hotel that size & surrounded by walls- no service here either.
We had a midnight flight back home & when I enquired re possibility of later check-out I was told best they could do was 2pm. Since I had already organised & paid for a 3pm checkout with my travel agent i didn't find this very helpful.I was suprised to read the previous review had no problem with getting a late check-out! I was travelling with my 73yr old mum & explained that even few extra hours would be helpful........not possible.
On the 5th day for no reason that could be explained to me our access cards stopped working resulting in my mum being stuck in a lift on her own for over 10mins pushing the alarm button to no avail & very upset as a result.
Even inquiring re flight confirmation nobody wanted to help- the third person I spoke to finally helped.
The real shame is that the people of Singapore are so friendly & helpful which is in such contrast with the staff at GCW.
Perhaps we had made the wrong choice of selecting a business hotel for a leisure trip but I still feel no excuse for lack of service & unfriendliness.
Its a shame when you look forward to staying at a 4+ star hotel & end up spending as much time as you can away from it......so ofcourse I would never stay here again nor recommend to anyone.
The location isn't very good & Singapore has so many other choices.
Excellent accommodation and servicefrom Brien Blackshaw
The standard of accommodation, service, food and location was outstanding in every respect.
We posed two problems: a very early check in (0800) and a very early check out (0620) due to the timing of our flights. The front desk did a fantastic job in satisfying these needs.
We will return to Singapore for a longer stay, lured by the romance of a great tourist destinantion and brilliant all round service.
We will stay at the Copthorne Waterfront again without hesitation.
Good value for moneyfrom A TripAdvisor Member
It is located a little out of the City on the river but we managed to walk despite the heat to all the local attractions.
This hotel appears to get its 5 star status from it’s exterior and lobby as our room was extremely sparse and the carpet was quite stained.
Breakfast that can be taken inside or out was fine but we have had better at other hotels.
The staff didn’t go out of their way to be friendly and made a mix up with breakfast only booking us in for one breakfast not two and were quite arrogant about correcting their mistake which they blamed on the tour operator.
Although it was good value for money as Singapore is quite an expensive City I think that we would try somewhere different if we go again.
Top Local Tips for Singapore
Making the most of Singapore Take the half day City Tour, which is a great orientation trip, then viist Chinatown and Little India for your souvenirs and great bargains. Visit the China Heritage Centre which is great for learning about the history, culture and development of Singapore The Night Safari is also a great experience - older kids would love it. A cable car trip to Sentosa Island is a must, and the Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon are great experiences. Overall, Singapore is a great place to visit and has something to offer everyone. As a lone female traveller, I felt extremely safe in touring the city. The locals are extremely friendly and helpful.
Elink card There is no good reason why you should not buy this eLink card. It's very convenient card that makes get around Singapore is very easy and economical.
Savings with Singapore airlines Look to book the hotel direct on the web if you are flying in with Singapore airlines - there are some good deals available
