acceptable Hotel on Bencoolen St.

This is surely one of the better hotels in Bencoolen St. We stayed there with 5 people for 4 nights in the middle of August 2006. Rooms were not too small and quite clean, although the cleaning lady did overlook some spots. Pool is small, but with a nice view. The breakfast buffet was good with the usual selection of asian and continental dishes. The hotel seems to cater mostly to foreign tourists.

Great hotel

Stayed at the City Bayview for 4 nights at end of June. Before arrival we were a little anxious because only 3*, however we neadn't have worried.

Room was very clean and modern and most important great location. 10 -15 min walk to all the shops on Orchard Road. Near the metro and there's a 7/11 next door to get drinks and snacks.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We paid for room only but on check in were given free breakfast vouchers. This was good although get there early for breakfast as things seemed to run out fast.

Our room did not have any kind of view - possibly refected in the price, but it more than made up for that location wise.

I would definately stay here again if i am lucky enough to return to Singapore and would definately reccomend to others.

We recently had a three day and then a one day stay at the hotel.

Doorman: was very keen to please and was a wealth of knowledge about Singapore - good on you Mahommed?

Reception Staff: when we booked in the staff on duty need to have some more training on greeting people - they never smiled and when asked for a phone number, gave me the phone book. The other shift was very different, they were very pleasant.

Rooms: For a three star hotel were very good, very clean and changed every day.

Facilities: the washing machine, dryer and iron is a great idea. The pool and gym are more than adequate. The dining room while serviing good food was rather expensive.

We would certainly recommend it to others

Brilliant Location, Good Budget Choice

We stayed at City Bayview for 4 nights on our way to Thailand and found it an enjoyable place to stay. Location wise the hotel is ideally suited towards the bottom end of Orchard Rd and about 5 mins from the MRT with easy access to the City. We booked a superior room with breakfast and found this to be adequate after all you're in Singapore to see the City not lounge around the hotel. The room was slightly dated but bed and facilities were fine for the price (180 pounds over 4 nights). Bathroom was obviously very new and clean with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was small but plentiful with lots of international choice although get down earlier rather than later. The pool is big enough for a city hotel and a great place to cool off, but the gym is only big enough for 1 or 2 people. We'd stay again and recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a decent budget stay in Singapore that is clean without the frills of a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Great Hotel!

My family (4 adults and 1 toddler) recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and were very happy with our stay. We chose it upon the recommendation of several Tripadvisor members.

We got two rooms at this hotel, a de luxe and a superior. They were able to give us the adjoing rooms we requested when we made the reservation. For a few extra dollars, it's better to get the de luxe room because it has a much bigger bathroom and a tub.

From the start, our experience was very pleasant. the receptionists and staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The location was great. It's very near Bras Basah Road and is walking distance to Plaza Singapura and Bugis Junction (malls), Bugis Street (bargain shopping), and the Dhoby Ghaut Station. there is a 7-11, and a Kopitiam (food-court style restaurant) next door, which were very convenient for grabbing supplies and hot meals for our toddler.

The rooms were simple, modern and clean and well maintained. We were able to get a room with a view of Bras Basah Road. My only complaint is that although the bathrooms were very clean when we checked in, I don't think the Housekeeping Dept did a good job cleaning the toilets because by our second day, the toilet began to smell. I don't know, perhaps they only do a thorough cleaning when a guest checks out?

The breakfast buffet was not bad. It had a variety of dimsum, rice, and sausages, but it was the same spread every day, so were tired of it by the third day and went to Killiney Kopitiam for Kaya Toast instead (yum!)

I would most definitely stay here again.

Great hotel great location

Well just got back from my trip, initial thought on the rooms nice and clean, double bed for us has a TV, fridge and safe.

There was a slight problem with a leak that we only really notice on the final day, probably to do with plumbing from up stairs rooms.

You could hear your next door if they spoke really loud, but besides that it was acceptable for us and it was on the odd night. has a pool up stairs and sauna and gym.


Room service would change all the towels and sheets everyday even when requested not to be disturbed, but I found this to be a plus not a negative.

Location wise its tops 10min to Orchard Rd, beside the hotel has a 7 Eleven, and a food court that serves everything under the sun.

Breakfast is not something to die for, BUT its good to have something in the morning that will take you the afternoon to get the real food on Orchard.

Only negative i could think of is the washing facility. Only 1 washing machine and Dryer. for the entire hotel, made it a bit hard to get our washing done when eveyone else is using it.

Overall if i was to stay in Singapore again I would be staying there.

Horrible Place

I had the misfortune to stay here for a couple of days on my way back from Thailand and I wont be making the same mistake again.
As I sat on my rock hard bed admiring the smoke stained cracks in my non smoking bedroom ceiling, and watching the grainy images of the single english language station on my television, I decided to visit the olympic sized swimming pool to relax. Unfortunately the picture of the pool on the website had obviously been taken using trick photography as the pool was no bigger than an average sized bathtub, the one person sauna wasnt working and the single gym machine had seen better days, so much for leisure facilities.
After an enjoyable tour round singapore ( the only good thing about the hotel is that its only a 10min walk from Chijmes and you do need a drink after staying here ), I returned to the room to sleep and had the choice of having the noisy air conditioning blowing stale cigarette smoke thru the room or sweating so I chose the latter.
The breakfast was OK if your an asian vegetarian and the staff were as unfriendly as they had been for the rest of the trip. Overall not much fun....
There are loads of hotels in Singapore and you deserve better than this!!!

good location, fair price

good location. very near a lot of late-nite food courts & convenience stores. A short walk to the MRT. Room was clean & comfortable, good bathroom. Breakfast buffet was OK, not great but good enough. Staff seemed competent, I had only a little contact w/ them. I thought it a bit expensive, but looking @ other hotel prices it is in fact in line w/ other properties.

Stayed here for 2 nights in april.Booked a triple via AsiaBest Hotel which was hassell free.Triple means 2 singles and 1 folder which only suits a person under 70kgs.Breakfast included,all the usual things.Pool(small) and 3 pieces of gym equipments fine.Good value for money.* mins walk to MRT.Next door to Kopitiam amd 7-11 shop.Good service and clean.

Good Choice

We were looking for a hotel with interconnecting rooms for us and our two kids. This hotel had pretty good reviews so we decided to try it out and were glad we did.
We were familiar with the location having stayed at the Strand opposite in the past but decided we would like a pool and breakfast as well this time. We arrived late after a long flight and were checked in very efficiently by the helpful reception staff. Our request for interconnecting rooms on a high floor were met and we were not disappointed with the rooms which were clean, spacious and well equipped.
The swimming pool is located on the roof and affords good views over the surrounding area, although small it is adequate and clean and adjacent to the pool are self service laundry facilities including drier and ironing board with iron ( very handy when travelling with small children ).
I was pleasantly surprised with the buffet breakfast which catered for all nationalities and the staff were great with our children. All in all a very pleasant experience and we will stay there again when we visit Singapore.

Gatsby Restaurant at Chijmes We ate there on a Friday evening - they offer buy one get one FREE on all main meals plus 50% off drinks (20% wine). Food was excellent, staff friendly and lovely setting

SIA Hop On This Service is excellent for getting around Singapore. If travelling with Singapore airlines it cost $3 each and you can get on and off as many times as you like. Takes two hours round trip around the city and there is a 2nd bus which goes to Sentosa.

Night Safari Don't pay for an organised trip to the Night Safari. There is a coach which picks up at several stops along Orchard Road shopping Belt for 4Sing Dollars each way. It takes you right to the door and return trips are every half an hour. Entrance Tickets can be purchased on board for 5Sing Dollar reduction. Attaction is definately worth visiting as it's great!
