The hotel is a landmark in Manila, very nice antique interior, safety is very good, with metal detector. De rooms are very stylish (1930), very clean. The only minus is the buffet breakfast (every day the same and always cold foods)

Is Manila that unsafe? and about taxis... In fact, we quickly felt safe. the metro is safe with lots of honest people going to work. The street is ok, even at 5 in the morning. (we didn't test late night time). Beggars are not crazy after tourists. People all speak more or less english. The worst was with taxi drivers. We got fooled by a "hotel taxi" who charged us 3 times the price. So then, we used only meter taxis, making sure the meter was on and visible.

Taxi drivers are not all bad Use budget taxi drivers, I have used hundreds over the years and never had a problem, of course they dont like using the taxi metre but will always use it upon request , in my opinion with the application of common sense the taxis in Manila are no more dangerous than those in most major cities of the world

hold on to your wallet in crowded places a taxi from manila hotel to the airport is 980 pesos, the driver wore a uniform and he told me he works for the hotel whereas last year the taxi drivers were subcontractors, people complained so they're out. the bathroom at manila hotel needs an upgrade but there is an abundant hot water supply. tourists should be wary of crowded places and keep an eye on your valuables, it's best to leave your valuables at the hotel safe located by the front desk. i was holding on to my wallet when i was in the mall as it was raining, people were wearing sweaters and jackets yet i was perspiring with just a t-shirt so i appeared like an odd person in the vicinity and i wore jewelry. in taxis i lock the 4 doors and suggest the route to take as i only know certain roads in manila otherwise they'll take you for a ride.
