s a greedy hotel

from cecile1106
i sympathize with the reviewer who stayed in the hotel the same day we did... perhaps we saw each other at the pool or somewhere at the hotel because we booked on an overnight stay on june 28.
we are now in taiwan and unfortunately i can not follow-up on my reservation billing unless i call them long distance... when i asked for a reservation for our stay on june 28 (over the phone) they asked for my credit card number and gave me my confirmation number. the receptionist, i think the name was Paul said that if we are to cancel the booking i should call them up on or before 6 pm of june 28 otherwise there's no need to do so. we booked for two rooms and had to stay there overnight. when i called my credit card office just yesterday, july 9, they said that i still have an overdue amount of P15000 for the reservations at the hotel on june 28. i was just surprised because i paid our bill with the same card but they haven't cancelled my reservation? to think that we just paid P9600 for two superior rooms and the reservation they assigned to my card is P15000???!!! perhaps they should change the people in their credit and collection department! their not doing their jobs well!

Excellent hotel

The Philippine Plaza excels in every regard! Friendly and attentive staff, great amenities on the executive floors (free internet access, free breakfast buffet, free steaming of suit on day of arrival, free cocktails and appetizers every day, always free drinks and many more) wonderful pool landscape, clean and spacious rooms, excellent dining ...

And the best of all: The sunset at Manila Bay is included ... something on top of all the amenities - in particular for honeymoners ...

Overpriced!!!

My family stayed at this hotel because a relative got married in their garden by the bay. As a wedding-venue, it's GOOD. They cover the full spectrum and it was a picture-perfect wedding. (Although, I must say, their pianos for the ballrooms badly need some fixing!!!)

If you're vacationing in Manila, however, this hotel doesn't give a good impression of the Philippines. Here are some points to consider:

*The BATHROOM was poorly maintained and not very well cleaned.

*Beware of EXTRA CHARGES: One of our kids must've opened the Evian bottle (of 1.5liters) and taken just about a sip: we paid $10 extra!

*The STAFF was not warm and had a big internal-communication problem. One receptionist had promised to take care of something and the shift after her didn't have a clue of any of those arrangements. That was very frustrating and cost us another hour to check out.

I do NOT recommend this hotel. There are much better hotels out there that cost far less.

Great hotel!

My family of five (children ages 11, 9, and 4) stayed at this hotel for 10 nights. It was our second stay here and we were once again delighted with our stay. The pool is the best in Manila. It is a huge lagoon pool with 2 waterslides. It has lounge chairs surrounding the pool interspersed with beautiful greenery. It really does feel like a beach resort minus the beach.

The rooms are great as well. We had a connecting non-smoking room on the 7th floor. The entire 7th floor is non-smoking so that is really great. Our room faced the parking lot which I would definitely not do again. Car alarms went off all the time and were really irritating. I am sure a pool side room woud be much quieter. They had said the rooms were twin rooms so I imagined American size twin size beds. Fortunately, they are actually American Double size beds. Our kids stayed in the twin room and our connecting room had a King size bed. It was great. (Well a little hard but other than that it was great.)

We went through PrecisionRewards and got the room for $54/per room per night. It was a real steal and well worth the money. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They originally said that the room we bought was only a standard room and all standard rooms are smoking rooms. However, they quickly accomdated our request for a non-smoking, connecting room. Check in did take quite a while but check-out went quickly and smoothly. There were no hidden charges other than the fact that they charge you for extra blankets. It cost $4. for an extra blanket! They need to change that rule for sure!

10 days in Manila was more than enough for our family but the hotel itself, made the stay very pleasant. I would highly recommend this hotel to families who are vacationing in or visiting Manila.

Double charging of paid drinks

from kazumo
I took my breakfast and order an extra mango juice, I gave one thousand cash to the waiter and told himm to keep the change as a tip, however, I was frustrated even after seing the final bill, I was then charge for another
glass of mango juice P235.00 inspite of the fact that it was paid earlier at the resto and "Its a 1T keep the change favor".

Great Hotel

Love the room. Great ambiance, Appreciate the wide hallways. Attended a convention and stayed at the top floor. Food is good and warm personnel.
Wanted to get a "yearly membership card" but currently is not available.

However, the lounge should be WIFI capable in coordination with airborneaccess.
Unfortunately, their IT techincal crew cant be found. Called up airborneaccess and still they cant trace the problem.
I have to go to the nearby Bluewave area to get internet access. Stayed there 3 nights and 4 days and they were not able to fix it. The Business center and any staff is clueless on what Wifi is.

Great Facilities but some personnel will make this hotel down.

The Hotel in General is Good, the food, the ambiance, the rooms, they are great, the problem is their personnel, lack of explanation or orientation on their policies w/c resulted to miscommunication-additional charges occur.

Better put your personnel on seminar again on HRM or replaced them with more competitive people to save your hotel from embarassment.

The 19forgotten room

I stayed overnight at Hotel Philippine Plaza last January 25, 2006. I find their rooms not so pleasant. Their linens are, FORGET IT! That was the first time that i stayed in a hotel that their linens maybe they are as old as their building. No plastics for the laundry. No slippers. No toothbrush. I considered it as a two star hotel.

Their food in their cafe plaza is excellent.

Going Down the Drain

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Westin Philippine Plaza used to be one of THE hotels in Manila. In its heyday, I've stayed there several times and everything was world class.

Recently, my family checked in for a night to view the Fireworks Olympics that was held end of December 2005. While our two bedroom corner suite was remarkable and we had a great time, it was sad to see how rundown the hotel had become.

The staff remains friendly and willing to help even if it's obvious they haven't been trained to deal with problems that are out of the book. The food quality is not up to par to the prices they charge.

I would stay there again only if family or work requires me to. Otherwise, for the prices they charge versus what you get, I'd stay elsewhere.

Top Local Tips for Manila

Always use the meter! Taxi drivers like to pretend the meter doesn't work with foreigners (I noticed this a few times) even though it is clearly running... you just have to be forceful and willing to get out of the cab if they won't turn it on. There was one case where it was raining and we let it go, but I would recommend being persistent (in a nice way).

hard taxi! be nice to the passenger, while i feel good, i'll likely give more tips.

be careful call hotels more than twice so that you won't be given wrong information. just to be safe.
