Museums Call ahead. Many of them listed in guide books and travel brochures are gone or impossible to see. Malacangon Palace, for example, requires an application 5 days ahead of time to visit it.

gettig around use jeepneys where possible, most of the drivers are honest, if you must take a taxi ONLY USE THOSE WITH ACCREDDITED METERS, & insist it is switched on. Do not get drawn into conversation by persons approaching with offers of help no matter how friendly they may seem. Never accept an invitation to thier home if you are a solo traveller.

Transportation in Manila Don't rent a car. The roads are congested more every year that I go there. Even 10 blocks in a taxi may take 1/2 an hour now. The only quick transportation is the LRT and it's companion on EDSA. My advice is to stay at a hotel close to the train stations and visit places close to either of them. Avoid rush hours into and out of central Manila as even the trains are so full at these times that no passengers can get on in many central stations. And hold your wallets and purses tight.
