Getting Around Taxis in Manila are air-conditioned and cheap for getting around. Just make sure you insist that the meter is used, otherwise they will try it on to get a huge fare. Get out of the taxi if they kick up a fuss. For longer distances and in the rush hour I can recommend the Metro e.g. For a short ride to Makati (alighting at Ayala station) or for a trip into Manila city (alighting at Central or United Nations) Fares are cheap but as in any big city keep your hand firmly on your wallet or purse. Jeepneys are cheap but can be dirty. You also need to know exactly where you are going as there are thousands of them ! We did not hire a car but were told that you get a driver as part of the deal, and when you see the traffic in the city you will understand why !

Cheating taxi drivers Most taxis are old and dirty. Most taxi drivers will cheat you if they can. Insist on using the meter or agree the price before you get in. The yellow cabs driving from the airport is safe.
