Reviews - Best Western Hotel La Corona

Rooms leave a lot to be desired

Have to agree with the previous review. I stayed here because of the term "boutique" which they used to describe the hotel. To me a boutique hotel is a smaller hotel in terms of number of rooms with personal service.

There was no personal service and the counter staff I found very unfriendly and surly. The rooms were terrible for the price. Very dark and old in both looks and smell. I am sure the rooms in Fawlty Towers were a lot better.

I had to struggle with my luggage myself both on entering and leaving the hotel in what can at best be called pre-1920's depression style elevators.
Crappy hotel

I booked the room thru the internet and paid a bit more than other area hotels in the 3 star rating as I thought I was getting a boutique hotel. Lobby was nice enough but elevator was the pits from the 1950's. Room was dark and TV remote did not work. Bathroom was very small and only one person could use at a time. I noticed some other rooms had marble flooring which brightened up the room. I asked to be moved but was told the place was full and "maybe the next night".

First night I got back at around 5am and noticed the newspapers had been put out. Less than 50% of the rooms on my floor had newspapers so I assumed those rooms were empty. I was denied a move the second night as well and noticed the same thing. I also asked a maid about the room next to mine and she said no one occupied it that night. That pissed me off so I checked out and moved to Execuutive Plaza - excellent, modern, clean and cheaper to boot.

The Best Hotel I have stayed in out of 192 Countries......

from Togetheroneworld
I Stayed at the Hotel for almost 2 months, it was always a great time. Everyone there is Great. i never had any problems and if i needed anything they always would take care of me. I travel alot globally and i have a few offices in Makati but i personally prefer staying there for the people. The beds are very comfy :-), and the Food is awesome. Everyone is like family. not like a big chain or anything but more of a personal touch. and they always are striving to make your stay more comfortable and your whole trip experience the best. I will always recommend the Hotel La Corona to everyone. and I want to thank everyone: Rica, Warren, Ryan, Jeeza, Paul, Edmar and everyone there for the best time in 9 Trips and 5 years of visiting the Philippines.

P.S Breakfast is the Best I never eat breakfast in the morning but while there. Every morning i did :-D.

Because of my job, I have to stay in the Philippines.
I have always stayed here since 2001.
Indeed Ermita area is located in downtown, but it gives anybody free hands to easily access anywhere in Manila.
I always enjoyed staying this hotel with friendly staff and delicious and rich breakfast. You never find such rich breakfast in the other such economy hotels in Metro Manila.
All of the staff kindly assist us to get any information.
I can say that this hotel gives us calm urban space in the tourist spots in City of Manila.
I would like to strongly recommend anyone this hotel.

Amazing Stay

from Suze81
My husband and I stayed at the Best Western in Manila after a week of staying in very poor hotels. We were so delighted to find how clean and pleasant the atmosphere at the B W in Manila was! The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, the room was spacious and had everything we needed plus more. The fridge was stocked with drinks and snacks and the breakfast in the morning was pretty good. Overall we were very pleased to stay there and would highly recommend it to anyone.

I enjoyed my stay.

I see a lot of reviewers complaining about this hotel. I had a very pleasant stay here and will be returning again. My room was clean and well appointed. The WiFi was flawless and fast. The buffet breakfast was delicious and every staff I came in contact with was more friendly than I am accustomed to in the USA. The part of town this hotel is in is kind of low and "gutter" but this is a nice hotel in a low land. I needed to stay due to it's close proximity to the US Embassy and ease of catching a bus to Batangas for a ferry ride to Puerto Galera. Close proximity to many things including The Mall.

This place is not as bad as other reviewer's are saying. Give it a try. I liked it.

Hated this place

from Fogducker
Has made a reservation a month in advance and on checking in hated my room right away. It had old dark flooring and dark furniture that made the room look cold. The bathroom was also very small and when you sat on the toilet you could not open or close the bathroom door. I went downstairs and asked if I could get another room and was told that the hotel was fully booked. They said I should try the next day.

I went out drinking that night and only got back at about 5am the next morning. I noticed that newspapers had been placed outside about half the rooms. I assumed the rooms without newspapers were not occupied - so much for all rooms being occupied.

When I woke up at about 11am I noticed the maid cleaning another room on my floor. The room was much larger and had a white marble/tile floor which made it very bright. I asked her about the rooms without newspapers and she said the hotel was not full or not even close. I asked her if there were other rooms similar to the one she was cleaning that were not occupied and she said there were.

I went down to the lobby and asked about a change in rooms and was told again the place was full but to try later in the afternoon. I did this and the result was the same.

The only reason I did not check out was I had prepaid my room for 5 days more than a month prior and could not cancel.

The elevator is an old cage type and is extremely slow as well.

Finally there are cabs outside that are not necessarily associated with the hotel but park in the hotel driveway and off the street. When you step out of the hotel the doorman will ask you if you want a cab and if you do he signals for the cab on the hotel property to move forward to pick you up. These guys are crooks and will ask for a fixed price usually 2 to 3 times the meter price. Ignore them and flag a cab on the street.

Not worth it!

We went to Manila for the AWA holiday bazaar and only stayed 2 nights. The hotel is old and in a very dirty area of Manila. The rooms smelled like mildew, which we sadly grew accustomed to in an hour or two. The tiled floors were so dirty in our room that I had to wash my feet before bed. The street noise is very LOUD and even though we were on the 2nd floor, we felt like we were on the street level! We called for a new hair drier and it didn't arrive even by the end at the end of the second day! The air con worked well though....

We ordered a small bed and they brought an old foam mattress and were going to put it right onto the floor! Arrgh! We had to ask for a bed frame and they eventually brought up an old metal frame for us. The king bed had a foam mattress on a wooden platform and it was also very uncomfortable.

The breakfast buffet was was simple and unimaginative. They lost our reservation for transport for our return trip to the airport and we ended up paying more for it. All my clothing smelled like the awful mildew upon our arrival back home. Don't go to this hotel!

Try somewhere else

from Jackel
Good hotel, close to Robinson's mall; however, don't take a taxi cuase they will try to scam you and not use there meter. 500 P fare($10) from the airport. When you walk be aware of all the pollution which will make you think again about going outside the hotel. Bell man was always corteous and nice. I had plans to check out 2 days early but the hotel would not refund me since this is a policy for the Philippines.

Not too great an area to stay in due to poor abandoned children tring to either get money from you or throw rocks at you from a 7/11 store and the police just watching. I had my shorts cut without feeling it at the Mall, but luckily I was able to save my wallet.

The room was not ready when I tried to check in, but 2 hours later it was ready, this was about 4 pm. I was surprised to note that since ther was no laundry mat I was told by the clerk that the laudry service was cheap so I did it and they charged me $2 for ever peice of clothing even each sock which came around to $26 total for just 13 pieces. Phone calls whether you are calling local or using a phone card cost were high also about $1/min.

1 Free wireless boardband CPU which ran very slow and was not always available. Service for a beer at the bar in the restaurant was very slow, but the free breakfast was ok but very limited.

Get your money exchange at a ATM or Airport becuase across the street they will only give you 40 to the dollar especilly if you have just $50 or $20 and no refund after the fact.

Bottom line go somewhere else and relax becuase you won't Here. Next if you have a friend who can make you reservations at a hotel then it will be $10-20 cheaper compared to online reservations.

La Carona has to be the slackest hotel in the best western group i have ever stayed at, If you send them e mails they generally don't reply, The food is bad and usually cold, the staff in the restaurant, usually 3 or 4 sitting behind the bar talking and to try and get another copffee or beer to your table you have to go over to the bar and virtually get it yourself.
Forget the breakfast and go outside and buy it, this is a free breakfast included in the room rate but honestly is not worth the trouble.
The rooms are good and beds are good the staff generally are good and friendly, except the slacko's in the restaurant and amazingly enough the restaurant staff have been the same calibre for years, i stayed at La Carona for 3 years on and off but gave it up this year and have found other places that are in the same vicinity but much better food and service.
What i have seen of it seems to me they have a management problem, and Best Western don't want to know, i have e mailed them several times they Never reply ,,,So much for the Best Western Blab..

Good Hotel - But

from drknot
Been staying here on and off for a total of 10 days over the last few weeks, Good hotel, 5 minutes walk from Robinson's mall, 10 walk minutes from Rizal Park, 5 minutes from LA Cafe /Amazonia/Stringfellows, on the same block as Cowboy Grill, can reach the first cafe on the bay area within 5/10 minutes, 120 P fare from the airport, and 50 P fare to super ferry terminal.

Generally Ermita is not too great an area to stay in, but if you are here, no problems with this hotel.

Staying in a suite on both the 4th and 5th floors and no complaints about the rooms. Staff are friendly, - the room never seems to be ready when you check in, but 15 minutes later its ready, this doesn't matter whether you check in at 08:00 or 13:00, but as soon as you turn up, you are a priority.

Free wireless boardband in the lobby and restaurant, but doesn't carry too well to the rooms

One word of warning though, they are having building work done on the 3 rd floor, and the builders start at 8 am in the morning, and the noise does go through the hotel, no drills but a very regular hammering. If your out and about, this isn't a problem, but if you fancy a relaxing day in the hotel, it does start to grate a bit

Never Again

This was our 3rd stay in this hotel, and will be the last. The receptionist's customer service was horrible. When we checked out the receptionist charged us extra for my son who is only 10 years old, even though I told her that according to their website that "for every two paying adults, one child 12 and under is free". The receptionist was very rude, when I was trying to explain to her this fact she basically ignored me and shifted her attention to a couple guests who were checking in. I ended up paying the extra charges because we were running late for our flight. This will be last time we stay in this hotel. I am a US military member and I consider this hotel as "BLACK LISTED"; there are other hotels around the same area as the US Embassy. By the way, I emailed Best Western HQ but they never answered my email back.
