FANTASTIC SERVICE in the midst of irritating renovation
from elliot_ukLuxury Hotel
from Ning77THE STAFF: The staff were very professional, polite and nice.
THE ROOM: Even though I didn't have a good view from my hotel window, it didn't really matter. My hotel room was so clean. The queen size bed was so comfortable. I loved the soft pillows and the comforter. I had the best sleep ever and did not want to leave the bed. The bathroom was beautiful.
THE FITNESS CENTER: Pretty small, but provides good equipment.
THE POOL: Good size. Very clean!! The towels were large and soft.
--I gladly recommend this place to people who are choosy and want things to be perfect. Overall I was treated well from the minute I arrived there until the minute I left.
Luxury in the middle of chaos
from gluDespite this glitch, the service was outstanding. From the front desk, to the room boy, to the waiters, everyone was geared to help you.
The room was delighful, with a wonderful bed, good selection on the cable TV, in-room unlimited internet access, great shower and bathtub, thick towels and hair dryer. Everyday they provided a Manila newspaper and fresh fruit.
As far as the food, everywhere we ate was excellent. Nielsens' is a buffet that provides your included breakfast and then changes daily for lunch and dinner. The array of fresh fruit, sushi, and Filipio dishes was eye-popping.
Spices restaurant was exquisite. Beautiful, exotic decor with an eclectic menu. We ate there twice and were thrilled both meals.
Old Manila had great food, but was a bit more expensive than the other restaurants. It also was a bit more pretentious for my father, who just wanted lots of seafood, and my son who was looking for more simple fare.
The security also was very tight, with mirrors under your cars, frisking, bag searches, and metal detectors. When we first arrived, it put me off. But after I endured it at every mall, store and restaurant and other hotels in the region, I appreciated the thoroughness of the Peninsula.
We would definetly return.
Gorgeous Hotel
from LoongNice Hotel, but not like sister properties, staff need more training
from APFlyerThe area that is in dire need of renovation is the fitness center showers/locker area. Has an old and dirty feel to it....and certainly nothing like the Pen in HK or Bangkok. From a service perspective, more training needed. (At the pool, hard to get someone to notice you would like some drinks, at Spices the waiters seem to congregate amongst themselves rather than attend to customers). We ate at 4 food outlets, with the Lobby bar probably the best in terms of service. (Note to Peninsula F&B: buy a decent wine glass, not the commercial grade glasses you use). Lots of noticeable details missing, so if you go manage your expectations to avoid disappointment.
Bottom line: good value for the rate we paid, could be much better with more staff training.
Excellent service.

from EEYORETIGGERRGreat business hotel
from HBDutytravelWhat an unforgettable experience!
from Arif_MThe check in process was a bit disoriented when I got there. In my mind, I told myself this hotel was going to be another ripoff, but boy was I wrong! Despite the limitations and the flaws of the hotel itself, the guys here do an excellent job in making you forget about it- and immediately backing it up with a memorable experience!
Aesthetics wise, I can't comment on anything very particular- except for the fact that the lobby had that "classical" look and feel to it. However, if it really bothers you- the only down side is that this hotel is more crowded, at least in the lobby, than most other 5 stars I've been to worldwide. Despite the disorganization, the staffers cleared everyone up pretty fast and I only had to wait a good 20 to 25 minutes. Considering the chaos, I expected a wait of at least an hour.
As I approached the front desk to get my room, the receptionist, very politely apologized for making me wait and assured me this will never happen again. Though it was really no big deal- these gestures do mean alot to paying customers. Then, when I went to the room, mine was apparently not yet cleaned. The bellboy immediately bought me down, back to the lobby- and informed the front desk that my room was yet to be cleaned. I just came from a long journey and was a bit tired.
To mend things up, I was given a complementary coffee and desert in one of the Hotel's coffee shops. I know, a cup of coffee and a piece of cake isin't exactly in the same league as a Ferrari, but again, it makes you feel that you're truly an honored and a respected guest- and that the staffers genuinely care for you. This means alot.
When the room (exec. suite) was ready, I finally relaxed. The room was very, very aesthetically appealing to the eye. The entire room was pretty much brownish cream. All the furniture, such as the sofa, the dining set etc. were very, very, very classy. The windows were thankfully tinted a bit, since I'm really not a big sunlight lover. The lighting was near perfect. Not too dim and not too bright. The bed was extremely comfortable- but this is expected.
The next best thing- the bar. Oh yes. It was just the PERFECT setting I had in mind. Painstaking care is taken to ensure sufficient accomodation of persons, yet giving each sufficient amount of private space. The bartender is extremely flexible, and will certainly oblige if you want to cook up that something special. And believe it or not, they had almost every type of spirit and beer out there. Believe it or not, I could even get a Spaten Optimator! For all the foods, you can get everything from Continental to local to Italian- and each restaurant has its own ambiance and character!
The pool is top class. For a bit, I thought I was in a resort village- when in fact, I was in the heart of urban Manila! The usage of natural deco is done to near...no, absolute perfection!
If that wasn't enough...the hospitality, the attitude and the care extended to you by the staff tower all of the hotel's physical splendour. It made me seem as if they built the hotel just for me! This one time after dinner, I had a terrible headache and was trying to cope with it by smoking at the lobby.
It was very touching to see one of the front deskers sit near me and ask me what my problem was. Immediately, she sent over a guy to get me some headache medicine. If that weren't enough, the kind staffer called me the next day and inquired if I was alright. Whenever I was feeling kind of tensed or business stress, even the bellboy would try and relieve it by indulging in small chat without taking up a topic you'd feel uncomfortable with. Now- this is what I call hospitality. If you wanted to experience hospitality- go here!
As a matter of fact, the hospitality was so good that I felt the 320 odd dollars (15,000 Rupees) I spent per night was seriously too little!!!! As a matter of fact, I was so immensed in the hospitality, I pushed back my return journey a few days! Sure, you'd have to tip your bellboy every now and then- but hey letting go of- 50 or 100 pesos isin't really a big deal. Honestly, even if the prices were to skyrocket to 1000 dollars a night, I'd still stay here!!!
Top Local Tips for Makati City
Save yourself from a lot of hassle and book a hotel transport Call the hotel in advance for limousine service, Manila international airport is not the nicest and you want to be assured of safe ride to your hotel.
go to Glorietta! The best place to shop is just nearby - fantastic for purchasing all those home comforts
Swimming with whales If you have a day of leisure spend it a the Subic Free Zone swimming with the whales at Ocean Adventure. The concierge at the Peninsula set everything up for my group (car, driver, reservations). Swimming with false killer whales, a once in a lifetime experience, don't pass it up. While you are there also stop by Zoobic Safari, have wild tiger come right up to your jeepney! You will also see crocodiles, ostriches, snakes and many other animals. You can have your picture taken with tiger cubs.
