I stayed in the Shangrila Makati during April spending two full days and one night in the hotel. Everything about it is fine - grand decor, bustling, international ambience, comfortable spacious bedrooms and wonderful restaurants. We lunched/dined in three of the hotel's restaurants. The International Buffet is amazing - every kind of food to select from; Red is a 5 star grastronomic experience; and the Japaneze Inagiku Restaurant served the finest sushi and sashimi delights - beautifully presented. A very enjoyable stay.

I have no idea where the bad reviews are coming from, but the only reason I am rating the ShangriLa an above average rather than excellent is because of their front desk staff. Most of the people here need to get a "personality" check-up. Afterall, they are the hotel's first impressions!

That said, the hotel itself is the most beautiful one in the Makati area! The rooms are big and clean - nice health club, great restaurants and the best buffet ever! It's also in a very convenient place to some of the best shopping in Metro Manila!

It is an ok hotel, but too pricey. Nothing too great about the hotel. The experience is not worth the price! Staff are unfriendly and not helpful. Food is not that great as well - i'd rather go out and dine in at one of the restaurants in greenbelt where the food is great, and the price is reasonable. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and i felt like I was robbed when I checked out. Huge bill! Not good value for the money. I will not stay in this hotel again.

Stayed three days at the Shang during Easter weekend (friday-sunday). As expected, the hotel was really packed, and it took quite some time during check in. The front desk staff noticed on my record that its my birthday the following day and gave a sincere greeting. However, upon check in I was informed that the hotel will have no power from 2pm-4pm for maintenance. But I was glad to have received an room upgrade from a superior to a deluxe room without even requesting for it.

The room was great! After my recent trips to Hong kong and singapore, I can say that rooms in Manila hotels are huge in comparison. Clean, cool, and we got a nice view of the fountain of the hotel across hahaha! Had room service on our first night and food was good. Was saving for my birthday dinner at RED, the hotel's fine dining restaurant the following day. Made reservations and informed them it was my birthday, and I was going to claim a birthday cake coupon being a Shangrila gold card (Senses) holder.

The next day, after breakfast, I was surprised to find a birthday cake and a greeting card from the front desk staff. I immediately called guest services and thanked them for the nice gesture. I aslo asked if it was the cake I requested and if they needed my cake coupon. It was a gift from the hotel. What a nice touch.

The one thing that ruined my stay was the expensive dinner at RED. We came in early and was led to our table. It was a lovely restaurant, pulled down by a very cold staff. After the appetizer and the entrees, no one bothered to ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. About 10 minutes after our table was cleared and seemed that no one bothered to attend to us, I asked for the bill. Again, we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert. I guess my reservation wasnt noticed by anyone from the staff - that it was my birthday, and that I requested a birthday cake for myself a day before. I've arranged big and small birthday dinners and celebration in some other hotels and restaurants in the past, and it never failed that the servers are aware of the "celebration" and sometime, you need not ask for a cake, they will give it to you. At RED, I didn't ask for my cake and not to humiliate myself any further and ruin my night. We stepped out of the restaurant, til one of the female servers ran after us and asked my name and if I ordered a birthday cake. Told her I'll just bring it home the next day. Did she expect us to go back, sit down and sing Happy Birthday to myself?! Without any apologies and without any greeting, she let us leave. I should have stayed at the Shang and had my birthday dinner right across at the Pen!!!

I know the hotel has received a lot of flak in the past with regard to the poor PR and the cold, snobbish attitude of the staff. Am happy to say I did not experience that with the front desk, the lobby and the Circles personnel. I was so disappointed with RED. Good food, really cold staff. Too bad.

There are many hotels with 5 star monikers, however the Shangri-la does live up to this. The room was also excellent.

Great breakfast buffets- one of the best in the world...especially on weekends.

The service is great, the gym is one of the best in Makati..also check out the one at the Peninsula across the street.

The bar on the second floor needs renovations...but had a surprisingly good cover band...usual sleaze factor for the bar...nothing unusual for SE Asia though.

Just spent 4 nights here. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff were absolutely fantastic, courteous, efficient and genuine and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were spacious and everything worked. The breakfast buffet in this hotel is the best I have ever seen (and i have travelled a lot). Everything you could ask for, Western breakfasts, Filo breakfast, japanese, fruit, pastries etc,etc, just wonderful. The pool is relaxing and the staff will look after you very well. Conways bar is pure fun, the happy hour from 5pm - 9pm for 425pp is a bargain. The entertainment in the hotel in the lobby lounge was great. Overall, the best holiday I have had for a long time thanks to the the Shangri La Makati!!!

I love this hotel! Stayed with 23 people Dec 2005 for 3 nights - also attended a wedding reception. Everything went well except for the VERY SLOW customer service at the front desk. Buffet at the Circles is excellent - great presentation! Concierge service is excellent as well.

Enjoyed working with Julie, events manager. She did a very good job helping me coordinate the wedding.

The Shangrila is perhaps one of the busiest hotels in the world, if not the Philippines. But inspite of that tag, it is probably one of the best when it comes to service. The staff are to be commended. Everyone is a professional.

Where in the world can you find the cleaning crew all smiles and well dressed? The people who work here are proud of their hotel!

The hotel is staffed with some of the worst workers in the hotel industry in Metro Manila. Some of the staff are arrogant, dishonest and have no sense of the proper standard for hotel services.
The hotel has some good staff members. One has to be smart enough to select properly or be persistent enough to meet the right ones, otherwise your experience can compete for your worst hotel service experience. You can compare their service with staff of Manila Peninsula.
If you doubt this review, ask your local friends in Metro Manila.

I stayed at the Shangri-La with my wife - and even if we only stayed overnight (wanted to spend the weekend alone), it was a wonderful experience - as it always is with Shangri-La! The staff treated us as if we were long staying guests, and they we're even accommodating enough to let my wife use the room early - even without the mandatory deposit. They just took my word when I said I would make the deposit as soon as I came in from work that night.

And then there was breakfast - for which we arrived five minutes AFTER the last call - yet they allowed us to dine just the same.

Wonderful place!
