Great Location and Room
from MobileResidentWonderful hotel
from OldFedThe worst experience in a Hilton ever
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis rates as the worst experience I have had in 100 hiltons ever.
I would advise anyone to stay instead at the Crowne Plaza. I have stayed there 4 times in the last 5 years and the whole experience was wonderful.
Excellent location plus more
from nglWe spent 5 days at the Hilton Auckland. After reading MANY Auckland hotel reviews on this site, we decided on the Hilton. We were VERY happy with our choice.
As many have commented, this is in an ideal location. You are mere steps from everything - convenient store, liquor store and most important for us, a Tourism Auckland office (a straight shot from the hotel). We set up various day trips from there (tour of the city, Waiheke Island wineries and everything else). Plus, you have the Viaduct Harbor area that is filled with restaurants and is right there as well.
Most importantly, if you plan on visiting any islands off of Auckland, the Harbor is right there so you can pick up all the ferries from right there. We ventured up to the Tower area and noticed some of the other hotels we were considering (Crowne Plaza, etc). We were very happy we didn't choose those hotels. I am sure they may have been nice but really in the hustle and bustle of the city. The Hilton's location makes it more like a vacation destination and is still within walking distance of the Tower area, etc.
We had a view of the harbour and it was great. The rooms are simple lines - very clean and neat and we thought they gave you a good amount of space. Very cute balcony as well. We only ate at White for breakfast which was good but expensive. No hotel gift shop or anything like that but with everything around, you really don't need it.
I read some negative reviews which seem to be visitors who stayed here in the summer (December - March). As the hotel staff and others told us, the cruise ships do literally dock right at the hotel and it is then swarming with people. I can certainly understand those people who commented their view was blocked by the ship. It will be if you are here during a ship docking. That would be the one negative I could see.
Overall, great hotel, helpful, pleasant staff and a great choice from our perspective.
Definitely the place to go in Auckland
from SeglerThe price-value-ratio is quite fair. I stayed also one night in a suite, but this hasn't been such an upgrade. Get a superior corner room
Loved this hotel

from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel has a good location, close to the malls the fun restaurants and so forth but other than that they need to put something up like to say this is the hilton lights shinning on it, i have stayed at far more better hiltons then this, this is like a tickle me toe hotel.
Rooms are small as the bathrooms are excellent size but you walk in and your like oh ok, wheres the "wow" about this hotel they could brighten the room up some way better art i think i can do better art than that and the VIEW my god its shocking i mean paying up to $NZ300 dollars a night to get a view of the otherside of the pier its just ridiculous waste your time and money so dont bother i will not stay at this hotel ever again at other hiltons but not here and i gurantee that!
Great location but room for improvement
from A TripAdvisor MemberHaving booked a non-smoking double room it was disappointing to be given a smoking twin room. To their credit this was rectified as soon as we pointed it out. The room we were eventually given was a standard business style room, but despite the hotel’s excellent location jutting out into Auckland’s harbour, there was no view to speak of other than across to the apartments opposite. The bathroom was large and well equipped but there were rings from glasses on the marble around the bath and one of the bathrobes was dirty, again this was sorted out by a quick call to house keeping.
The heated outdoor hotel pool has a glass end and is clearly visible from boats passing by – an interesting experience to swim whilst looking out to sea. It is also the hottest pool we have swam in for a long time.
We ate dinner once in White’s, the hotel restaurant. Initially we were somewhat underwhelmed by the choice but having made our selection we were actually very impressed by the quality of the food. The service was excellent. The waitress spent quite a bit of time explaining the intricacies of the dessert and even went to the kitchen to obtain a sample of one of the more unusual ingredients and seemed to enjoy doing so. Overall an excellent, if fairly expensive meal – one of the best we had in New Zealand.
The location of the hotel is ideal – a few steps from a wide range of bars and restaurants to suit every taste. The hotel is handy for trips on the harbour, the Sky Tower and the city centre.
Should we ever return to Auckland I think we might stay at this hotel again but mainly for its location.

O'Connell Street Bistro An easy walk from the Hilton, this is a must. Located at 30 O'Connell Street. www.oconnellstbistro.com. Reservations are a must.
Bus Tour that includes the Museum Stay for the Maori Tribe Dance Performance for an extra $10ND
Getting to / from the airport When you arrive at the airport you may choose to take a taxi or an alternative is the Shuttle Bus. It is a bit confusing and the price is based on the number of passengers - It is cheaper than a taxi though. Unfortunately the pricing for both taxis & shuttles isn't very obvious and the staff aren't very helpful in explaining the best options. If you need clear advice go see the friendly staff at the Information Point within the Arrivals hall
