Historical Traveller Reviews of Crowne Plaza Auckland Hotel

Excellent choice

from Ermejo
We spent three nights before flying to Australia and we loved the hotel so much that we decided to come back again to it for a night on our flight back to Canada from New Zealand. We liked the hotel' excellent downtown location, well appointed rooms and good food at the restaurant.
Overall, excellent hotel.

Wish we stayed longer

from Anonymous97
We stayed on the club floor at the Crowne Plaza our last evening in New Zealand. The room and view were excellent, and we could not have had better service. It is in a great location, close to good restaurants and near the warf. I would recommend it to anyone. For most of our trip, we stayed in B&Bs out in the country and had only planned one evening in Auckland, but the room was so nice and it was so relaxing we wish we had stayed longer.

Great hotel

I'm sure this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I have stayed here on two occassions-the last being in Jan 2002.
The hotel is extremely clean with beautiful rooms-very spacious and even the city views are lovely.

It is a very busy hotel and perhaps because I enjoy people watching, I loved the restaurant being in the lobby area as you could see all the comings and goings of the hotel! The food was wonderful and even asking for 'one scoop of ice cream' came as a work of art.

The staff are extremely polite and helpful-the Conceirge was exceptional-even recommending and mapping a few drives that we could do as we had hired a car.

I would highly recommend staying at this hotel

Great location, very good hotel

from Whatbob
Smart and comfortable. The club lounge has a great view. Club floor rooms benefit from plenty of space and are a very good size. One side of the hotel now looks right onto the Sky City Grand Hotel and the views have gone - you do look straight into the bedrooms just across the road which is not so good. Staff are very good - polite and helpful. The location is excellent. This is a very good hotel at a good price BUT the new Grand Hotel opposite has led to it now not being quite as special. One gripe is the $5 per day fee for using the (monitored!!) room safe - I was shocked by this and consider it a really bad idea.

Very Highly Recommended!!!

Our family have been travelling in many parts of the globe but Crowne Plaza Auckland gives the best value for money. We stayed there for four nights (April 1-5 2005). Arranged this through my travel agent and chose this through reviews in tripadvisor, I was glad I did.
The rooms (we occupied 2 rooms) were clean, tidy and spacious. Bathrooms were spotless and towels thick and fresh. The bar is complete, with extras like complimentary gingernut or choco chip cookies and a good selection of complimenatry tea and coffee sachets. They even have the very practical "just in case" kits for those emergencies (though this is not complimentary). The best for me and my husband is their pillow menu. We always find it difficult to sleep on some types of pillows but with their pillow menu, we can choose from five selection of pillows suitable for us. We chose the feather pillow :) and we had the best sleep.

The service..oh the service. Very friendly very helpful staff. Left my sunglasses in another hotel in Rotorua, they made contacts with them to make sure it will be couriered to me before I leave. Unfortunately, the courier service didn't do their job well but the concierge made sure they have all the informations to follow it up. Request from housekeeping is always fast and efficient.

Buffet breakfast is great!!! Good selection and quality, cheerful staff in Aria Restaurant. Had room service, burger was delicious and in good portions.

Location is very good. Just below us are food outlets and shops. Around are more shops and more restaurants. Tried the small Chinese restaurants around, good value and delicious :)

What can I say,if you're in Auckland, this is The Hotel.

Great for weary travelers!

We had exactly the same experience as the travelers from Bend. We arrived on a Saturday morning after a long trans-Pacific flight, and were delighted to be able to get into our room early in the morning. We also got an excellent price by pre-booking, and decided to stay on the hotel's Club level. It was worth the additional cost! We had "continental plus" breakfasts, excellent hors d'oeuvres and choice wines in the evening, and free use of internet in the Club Room. As a result of our stay in this hotel, we were well-rested from the beginning for our vacation.

Great Hotel Value

In mid-February we stayed at this propety for three nights. We arrived in Auckland at 5:30 AM and after the immigration/customs/transport process arrived at the hotel at about 7:45 AM. They were able to get a room available for us at 8:30 AM. This was so wonderful. We were able to shower and get our luggage stowed so we could begin siteseeing. The hotel is in a great location for public transportation and restaurants. The room was more than adequate and quiet. We got a great rate by using the advance purchase option. This is a good hotel and a great value.

Great Hotel!

This hotel is clean, with nice rooms and friendly service. The location is great being centrally located in downtown Auckland. We found we could walk to all the major tourist destinations. It's only a few blocks from the harbour and the sky tower. We recommend this hotel.

Efficient Service, Central Location

from SS2
We have just returned from a 3 night stay in late November. We booked a month ahead on the advance purchase rate and chose this hotel based on the favourable reviews. Apart from a slight hiccup with the bill which was quickly rectified, we found the service both friendly and efficient. Depending on the budget, the corporate rooms offer more privacy and larger bathrooms with a separate shower and bathtub. The Crowne is close to plenty of eateries from the Asian noodle shops to the Angus Steak House 2 blocks down. The Crowne is close to the fashion boutiques in High St and Vulcan Lane as well as the tourist attractions such as Sky City and the Harbour.

Top Local Tips for Auckland

Attractions Go up the nearby Sky Tower. Visit Viaduct Harbour. Take a cruise in the harbour. Visit the National Museum.

So many little time I would recommend Soul bar and Bistro in the Viaduct Harbour - very hip. For the people watching, check out SPQR on Ponsonby very rock and roll. Dine at the Sky Tower was unfortunately all booked out so we ate at Orbit and good also - and if you are eating in the restaurant don’t need to pay the fee ($20 fee) to get up to the tower. Bargain! Also taste as many Pinot Noirs as you can - everywhere has excellent selections of good quality wines but the glass - it is such a pity we cant get more, at more affordable prices, in the UK

If you like seafood ... If you like seafood, my wife and I would recommend Soul Bar & Bistro down on the waterfront in the Viaduct Basin. We've eaten there a number of times and have never been disappointed. My mouth is watering even thinking about it!
