Top Local Tips for Kathmandu

Internet access and travel agent if you brought your laptop with you, don't bother with Kathmandu Guest House's internet access. It was terrible! Slow speed and gets interrupted all the time. I suggest you just take your laptop and go across the street to this nice cafe called Cafe New Orleans, which has free wi fi internet access but of course you have to be a customer. The service was 10 times better! Also regarding travel agent, I highly recommend Treasure Tours. very responsible and made my life really easy despite last minute planning to Nepal.

Kathmandu must sees.... Definate visits during a trip to Kathmandu - Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Bodnath Stupa and The Garden of Dreams (for a place to get away from the chaos...)

Be careful buying gemstones Almost all of the gem stores are run by people who know each other--it's a racket and I'd be very careful and do your research before you go. Also, don't believe them if they tell you the aquamarines have not been heat treated and be suspicious of those offering "cat's eye" and alexandrite for prices that are too good to be true--because they are!
