My wife and I, went for a two week hoiday in october 2008 my wife had requested jacuzzi water villa in the 700,s and it was everything we expected (paradise). we ate in the maalan resturant where the tables are set for two people,we relaxed after our meal in the uthru bar and watched the sun go down,
while we were there we booked a full moon massage at the duniye spa it cost around £230 it was worth every penny it ended were we were sat in the hot tub full of bubbles over the water drinking champagne.
all of the staff work endlessly to meet your needs and they are all so friendly from our barman (Yavaan)to (ibraham)who cleaned our villa twice a day and filled it with endless touches each day we thank you all.
we hope to return to meeru in march 2011 for our 20th wedding anniversary hopefully we will stay in the 700,s again.

Quite simply.....Go there!
Beautiful island with clear blue water, excellent reefs and a class swimming pool.

Meeru Island, Maldives – 24th Jul – 8th Aug

We booked to go to Meeru only 4 weeks before we left through Direct Holidays. We paid £750 pp HB for 14 nights and after comparing this with the prices of some of the other Islands we expected one or two things to be not quite perfect, as it was there was nothing, every day of the holiday was absolutely amazing.

The only bad thing about the holiday overall was the flight. We flew with Monarch and for us it was a means of getting there only, if you want your holiday to start on the way there fly with someone else. We had read the poor reviews and so expected it really but apart from it being long it was very cramped and the plane was filthy, I had orange peel in the seat pocket in front of me. On the way there it took 10 and a half hours but on the way back we had a drop off in Manchester so after 11 hours we spent another hour on the runway before we set off for Gatwick. With the one moan out of the way now for the good.

From the moment we got out of the Airport and away from the plane everything was perfect. There is a 60 minute speed boat transfer from the airport which took us past many of the other Islands of the North Male Atoll. As we approached Meeru it was like stepping into paradise.

On arrival we were taken into the bar, given cold flannels and a soft cocktail – exactly what you needed after the journey. Our cases were lined up and once we were given our room keys we pointed out our cases and were shown to our rooms – the cases followed a few minutes later carried by the luggage staff. Tipping is the norm in the Maldives, 1 or 2 dollars was adequate for the luggage staff.

We had chosen the Standard rooms, these were the most basic on the Island but at no point did we feel the need to upgrade. Apart from the fact that we hadn’t gone all the way to the Maldives to sit in our rooms they were great! They were air conditioned, spotlessly clean, the bed was made twice a day, the second time wonderful patterns made with the sheets.

The staff were wonderful, friendly, hard working people. You never had to leave the sun lounger for drinks, the waiters served you around the pool. The reception staff would fall over themselves to help you and everyone was always smiling and willing to chat.

Meeru is split into 2 parts, Meeru Island Resort is on the South end of the Island and houses the Standard rooms and Land Villas. There were a number of children at Meeru resort, more than I expected, but most were well behaved most of the time and we were in the summer holidays. On the North of the Island is Meeru Village, this has the Water Bungalows and Honeymoon suites and allows no Children, this end was generally quieter.

Each end had it’s own buffet restaurant for Breakfast and Dinner for HB guests and also Lunch for AI guests. On the first evening you were allocated a table and a waiter, the waiters were excellent, by the 3rd or 4th day they knew whether you had tea or coffee and how many sugars! The food was very good, I am a very fussy eater and almost every night over induldged due to the variety of food on offer, the standard was good too, one of the best buffet style restaraunts I have been to. Save room for dessert – they do great pud’s.

There are a number of other places you could eat at extra cost (for HB anyway), the Pool bar does food all day and the Asain Wok restaurant on the Southern Tip of the Island has its tables on the beach, we ate here on our second to last night and had a fantastic meal, the food was wonderful and being served on the beach was an brilliant experience.

We did a number of the trips on offer. Night Fishing was great fun, we caught lots of different fish, the staff on the boat were wonderful, you didn’t even have to bait your own hook if you didn’t want to! We also went on the Sunset Punch Cruise, we paid no attention to the sunset though as the boat was completely surrounded by Dolphins the whole time – I’d never seen them naturally before and was totally gobsmaked at how many there were and the acrobatics they performed. We went to visit Dhiffusi which was the closest local Island to Meeru, save your present buying for here as the gifts are about 50% cheaper than the gift shop on Meeru, also take your bargaining hat, we didn’t pay more than 60% of the ticketed price for anything we bought! You will only need money when you are off the Island and for tips, and you tip the room boy and waiter at the end of the holiday so no need for lots of 1$ notes. Everything else is charged to your room, even trips and spa treatments.

We did lots of snorkelling during the fortnight and saw a wonderful variety of fish in the reefs around the Island, we did go on the “House Reef Trip” and although we saw the fish in larger quantities there wasn’t much difference between this and the reefs close to the Island. The fish could always be seen, if you walked along the piers in the evening there were always lots of Sting Rays and Black Tipped Reef Sharks which seemed to be attracted to the lights.

There were plenty of Sports activities to do if you wanted. We hired Kayak’s and you could windsurf, there was also Beach Volley Ball, Tennis, Badminton, Football, a Driving Range, a Gym and Water Polo matches in the Pool along with a games room that had Table Tennis, Pool and Table Football. Board games were also available from reception. There were a lot of people on Diving holidays and there was an Ocean Pro dive school on the Island. We decided to save this until next time.

One of the best experiences of the holiday was in the Spa. Our party was made up of two couples and after taking up the offer of a 15 minute free back, shoulder and neck massage when we arrived we booked in for “his and hers” massages. There are 2 Spas on the Island, one at the South end and one at the North, the North is “over the water” so you can watch the water and fish as you are massaged. We went for our “his and hers” massage at the North end and after 50 minutes full body massage we were given a bottle of Champagne to drink on the balcony which looked straight out to sea, we timed it right just as the sun set, very romantic, I have never felt so relaxed! The next week we had other treatments, 3 of us had the Volcanic Clay Body Wrap and one a Lymphatic Massage – all were wonderful.

It was amazing from the sea you could see only the Pool Bar and Palm Trees, for an Island that you could walk all the way around in 45 minutes and apparently had 400 guests, you could be secluded enough to feel like you were the only ones there. But if you wanted to socialise there was entertainment in at least one of the bars each night, this ranged from Crab Racing, a Maldivian Night with cocktails and entertainment, a Disco Night and there were a number of live bands all of which were excellent.

If you are undecided about Meeru my advice would be GO! I would recommend this Island to anyone, it was a great mix of relaxation and entertainment and exceeded all expectations I had, each day I was amazed that it still got better. Even with the rubbish flight I would give the holiday 10 out of 10 overall.

We booked only 5 weeks prior to departure and arrived back this morning at 1am !

Start with the bad and end with the good. Monarch Airlines are appauling. Not only were we told that we could only fly to the maldives from gatwicK (4 hour drive from home) we then found out that the flight left manchester (20 mins away from home), on arrival into the UK we went via manchester and were told we could not get off due to security. The plane was filthy and the cabin crew were the most rude miserable group of people we have ever encountered. An 11 hour flight and not even free water - cramped and uncomfortable. Next bit of bad news the Airtours Rep had been on the Island for 2 months and we knew more than her after looking at Meeru's web site, Whilst she was a nice enough person she knew nothing about the Island she pinned notes on the board saying she was off Island and would not return till a certain day, yet you would see her two days before this date having breakfast looking like a holiday maker. She did not know what was included in the AI package and suggested that we found that out ourselves ! The day before departure I checked with her the time we were leaving, her response was, I told you at the welcome meeting - if you want to know it will be behind reception ask the receptionist. Therefore we would advise not to travel with Airtours you will then avoid Monarch.

The best bit is Meeru and its fab staff, wonderful and sunny. The staff are really nice and we would recommend upgrading to AI prior to leaving. The food is brill, not sure about rotating food and what you dont eat at lunch is served at dinner (?) we didnt particularly find this. We arrived by speedboat, and getting off that boat onto the jetty is an image you only dream of. you are greeted with a soft drink cocktail - given your key and then the staff carry your luggage for you.

The sunsets are wonderful, sea warm pool great, cool san migel beer, and I have never drunk so much still water! Its amazing to see Dolphins in their natural environment - recommend the sunset punch cruise.

We met some really nice people who will be friends for life - Dawn and Gareth - congratulations again on your engagement.

Lots of older couples moaning about the number of children - we took a 4 year old who had a ball, my advise to the older couples dont go during school holidays if your looking for a child free holiday, the children were very well behaved and were well just children having a great time - dont get me wrong the children are not plentiful just a handful, who play together really well and Meeru is known as a family resort. Meeru is paradise, just walking from your accomodation onto a white beach, which is not littered with sun beds - just yours (heaven), the spa is wonderful and luxurious. This was a holiday only dreams are made of and we found our dreams came true on Meeru - wonderful and highly recommended.

One other thing we were advised to take low denomination notes for tipping 1 US dollar here 1 US dollar there, so we took loads of 1 dollar notes and you tip at the end of your holiday so its not necessary to take low denom notes. Also you put everything you buy on your room, so you may aswell just take your tip money we were advised 30 US dollars for your waiters and your room boy (each) and then put the rest of your spending on your credit card.

Cant wait to return.

Me and my wife loved our stay in Meeru. We stayed in a Water bungallow and I recomended it. The room is big and always clean (the room boy deserve a tip) with CD player !!. Superb outside shower room/wc.
The food was very good with european and asian plates.
If you can go with Emirates.
If you want to go to Maldives, Meeru is the place.

my friend and i came here and loved every minute , the staff were brilliant especially saud and hassan in the bar they are so funny. this is the first time i've done allinclusive and did think some things were lacking eg water in your rooms . the food was pleasant but the same menu was used every week . the rooms are clean and there was always clean bedding and towels. the nicest thing to us was everybody always had a smile and said hello and it really is a happy place in a corner of paradise.and cannot wait to return

We stayed on meeru in the April of 2002 (I know its took us a while but i've just be using the site quite regular so i thought id start putting back!) and we had an amazing time! We found all of the staff very pleasant, our beach bungalow was absolutly spotless, we then upgraded for our last 3nights to a water bungalow which was also amazing!, the food was above average and the island is amazing!. Like whats been mentioned in other reviews, its a larger island than most therefor you get more people! so its not your typical deserted maldivian island, saying that during the day it seemed pretty isolated it was just at evening meal time when everyone was in one place then it appered a little busier.
But please dont be put off by anything anyone says you will totally love Meeru - guaranteed!

Very gooooooooooood

I loved this holiday the weather was very hot in July 2004! The people are friendly and funny, the food is amazing and the island is kept very clean. From the minute you arrive you feel welcome and the people and the island are amazing and very frindly. I loved this holiday. Good sandy beach, the villa's are cleaned twice a day and i have never been to a nicer place. Leve a tip to the room boy and to your waitress. I would like to go back again.

We loved Meeru. I cant say I ever wanted to go to the Maldives as I am a big Caribbean lover. The chance came up pretty much a month before we went. At first we had booked Kuredu but the thought of a 5 hour transfer after an 11 hour flight made us change our minds as were only there for 7 nights. The flight with Monarch was ok. It left and arrived on time - but other than that it was cramped and you had to pay for everything onboard (even water!). Do go with Emirates, Qatar or Sri Lankan if you can. Do consider booking the sea plane on islands that are a great distance from Male. Apparently people on the sea transfer from Kuredu were traumatised by the whole experience!

The island is small (45 minutes to walk around it). Lush on the interior and
features a very shallow coral reef on one side of the island. The snorkelling was good although the sting rays freaked me out a bit. We were in land villa 243 - which was superb. Outside shower room/wc was great. Lots to do if you get bored easily. Kayaks, tennis, bike hire, games room, fishing and loads of exursions. We went to Male on a day trip and is not recommended - it sort of tarnished our idea of the Maldives. Compact city with skyskrapers (no kidding) and the people were too over friendly (possibly they wanted you too buy souvenirs from their shops! - imported from India/Indonesia/China).

The staff were superb - Saud in the coffee shop was especially entertaining. The pool was large and cool - and picture post card to look at. Honestly - the brochures do not do this place any justice. Mention must also go to the Thai masseurs at the Spa. The 1 hour jetlag massage was out of this world - I was floating around for the rest of the day it was that good.

Food was average fair and buffet style. A bit samey - they seemed to change the theme (or sauce!?!) daily but the salads and puddings were really good. For a la carte dining do try the Hagern or Asian Wok (fusion style - very good).

We made some great friends too - which did it for me. We laughed and partied our nights away.

A couple of things to bear in mind. Dont pack posh gear - you will not wear it. Shoes!! You do not wear any - everything is sand - even in the restaurants. Money - bear in mind you are on an island - anything you need or forgot will need to be purchased here and its not good value for money. My camera conked out so had to by disposables at USD25 a go!
All inclusive does not include the mini bar in your room which is stocked with ice cold water.... or cocktails..... or certain things at certain times of the day. Just be careful and ask if you are unsure.

The village (which are the water villas, jacuzzi water villas) includes its own restaurant and bar and we noted is quite upmarket from the part we were on.

We will go back - for longer next time - and on a scheduled flight. This place cant be beat for the "oh my God we are in paradise" factor.

Go and enjoy.

This report is my opinion and my opinion only I will tell it how I see it thro my eyes this bieng my second visit to Meeru

So feel free to pass comments after reading itJ.
This trip report may be jumbled up and out of sequence for that I apologise but that’s life J

Here we go

Day one arrived at Male straight thro customs Monday 9th May ( that’s a first they pick on me normally lol
Sat at the bar awaiting for the stragglers to come thro customs and REMEMBER TWO soft drinks will cost you $8
Moving on ,,,,,, There it was Meeru’s new transfer boat, We boarded and the rep said it normally takes An hour to get to Meeru but as this is the new transfer boat the captains taking it easy.
They have two new transfer boats identical they have been using one for a while so just letting everyone know the second one is now being used as well.
So time for a quick nap so if they saw dolphins I did not I was in the land of nod

Well arrived at Meeru went directly to reception to get checked in and given the all inclusive wrist bands.
Then the Rep was asking anyone if they wanted to upgrade as the resort is only 50% full , and apparently it is only booked up 50-60% thro may BUT getting busier during June at the moment so upgrades are available ( bartering time }
Well after the rep had her chat it was time for lunch I decided I was not that hungry so I decided I am on holiday So off to the bar for a coke J and a yummy chicken toasted sandwich
Weather slightly cloudy but still the sun was beating down so I am off for a nap before dinner long day Sunday / Monday
For those that read the weather reports and worry because the forecast for last 7 and next 7is thunderstorms but they had 30 minutes rain last Thursday 4th may and none …UNTILL FRIDAY 14th of may

Rained for 20 minutes at the jvw end only ( Jacuzzi water villas ) The rain only got as far down as the pool the dhoni bar and other end stayed dry.
During my stay my first 7 days were in a land villa ….. I then packed my bags and moved house to a water villa on the beach with steps into the sea….I could have eaten in the Mallan restaurant at this point but declined and carried on eating in the favi restaurant.. On my third week I packed my bags again and moved into a Jacuzzi water village and was asked to eat in the Mallan restaurant as they knew I would be writing a report.. I did say OK I will but if I do not like it ill be back down to the Favi restaurant they said OK that’s cool.
Also on the 12th of May they started putting down the new decking outside the dhoni bar it should be completed by THE 2OTH the way there working .( ALL MAJOR WORK DONE DURING NIGHT WHEN YOUR ASLEEP OR NEWLY WEDS doing well use your imagination ,,to much info ? SAY NO MORE (Laughing to myself )
Moving on did a stroll around island took 2hrs maybe because I stopped at every bar like you do just to stop dehydration of course ,,,,, you can walk round 98% of the island on the beach but if you have sensitive feet or don’t like to take chance with sharp coral wear summit on your feet.
The 2% you cant walk on beach water is only up to your knees if your 5 foot 8 so most should be OK J .If you walk around ( No pub crawl ) should take approx 45 mins dependant on lenght of your stride and pace.
Sea fishing if you hate fishing avoid this part he he ( poor fish L )
AND NO ONE STUCK FINGERS IN THERE EYES and all fish caught where eaten by the boat crew
I did 3 sea fishing trips and a casting trip for 4 hrs on Saturday the 28th may awesome in the rain nice rough sea J

Crab Racing ( Forgot Which Night )
Live Band Slow Romantic Music ( Tuesday )
Live Band Various And All Types ( Wednesday )
Table Tennis Tournament ( Forgot which night )
Disco Night ( Saturday )
Movie Night ( Sunday I think lol )
Divers Video and introduction night ( Forgot which night )
Maldevian night they sing and dance for you and you eat maldevian food in either resurant that night ( Friday night )
The Entertainment is on a weekly shedule I personally would like more to be added and and it could be a 2 weekly shedule as most guests are on a 2 week holiday.
My thoughts only

waiters service I got in both resturants.
The Favi resturant food is very good and a wide range of variety and would not hesitate to eat in there at all.. as I did for 2 weeks although I could have eaten in the malann resturant for my last two weeks. I found the service from the waiters in the Favi restrurant a lot better than the Malan resturant I have to say and this is my opinion only. Others guests may have found this different to me so dont shoot the messanger.

The Mallan Resturant

So my third week I eat in the new resturant my first comments on the FOOD where OH MY GOD !!! The food was absoulutly superb my congrats to the Chef ( A British Guy ) Awesome excellent eat your heart out Gary Rhodes /// Gordon Ramsey and the rest this GUY IS GOOD .
In no way is the Favi resturant not good its just presentation and the extra taste etccc but the Mallan is actually superb..
Once again I would have no problem eating in the Favi Resturant. And in my opinion the waiters are fare better in the Favi Than the Mallan ( My opinion) Its hard to say exactly why maybe its the atmospehere in my 7 days using the Mallan resturant only once on the last evening did the waiter pull my chair out for me and hand put my knapkin on my lap as they do in there I am no snob but this was the norm the waiters in favi resturant did this every time maybe your experiance was better …
Only one complaint the pancakes where a little rubbery sorry very rubbery so I went for a bacon role instead and as paula stated the bacon was mostly fat but thats ok if its cooked well and crispy.…
OHHH and the nice plates look good but they have holes all around the outside of them makes a mess on the table when you fill your plate and the rice falls through the holes he he..those who have eaten then will giggle at that as it realy does make a mess on your table ( I was chuckling to myself everytime I saw I guest brush rice on to the sand floor or try to pick the rice up and put on there side plate.

The New Village

As vicky said and I agree they could do with some type of hand rails as it does get a little windy at night and if you have had a drinky poo he he you may fall in ….
Also I found that they do need a wind break on the sunrise side villas as the wind nearly takes the door out of your hand. Also the rain gets in under the dorr on 2 nights I had to put towels down around the door I called reception and it was no problem out came more towels they offered me to change rooms but I said its ok long as I get 4 towels when it rains and they sent as many as I asked for nothing was to much of a problem. And yes the new JWV do move a little I had a half bottle of water on my table and it was moving slighlty but this is how there designed and it is minimal so not a problem for me.

The Dhoni bar is realy a very relaxed atmosphere and waiters do have a laugh with you but the ulthru bar (excuse spelling ) was some what different in my opinion the waiters seemed as if they have been told to be a little stand off ish at least this is how I viewed it and as the resort was quite quiet maybe this did not help as lots of seats and minimal people. Also when the resort is up to 100% capacity again this could all change

Sand Floors

I love the sand floors I found no glass anywhere as I backpacked around the island taking pictures of anything that moved he he even pictures of outside the staff quarters and the maintanance office he he. So sand floors interesting subject they resurface regulary all the bars and rersturants but its definatly a better standard of sand in the new village very soft and cool on the feet they only place on Meeru I found the same quality sand was in the library.

One game 1st Sunday the they started laying turf for there inter department tourney
GYM I walked past it most days he he
I used it once great modern equipmemt yes I did a 3 mile run on the tread mill I admit only once tho great with the air con and shower room this is in ths old spar new village does not have a gym

I wont go to far into these as I never looked in any this year but having stayed in one last year I will simply state outside they do not look good BUT INSIDE the internal floor space is bigger than the land villas the decor is mainly off white With bamboo furniture but size wise as stated bigger. No cd player or TV

Great rooms spacious with wooden walls with a nice glow with the low lights fitted in them with an outside bathroom round a wall separating it from the bed area with storage space with a door leading to the bathroom ( Bugzone ) if ya lucky you will have a can of bug spray in your room if not just ask the room boy he will get you one . NO Tvs or CD players in these rooms

Same as Land villas but with a TV and CD player and I long garden with your Jacuzzi in it with 2 sun loungers and a double sun lounger for those of you who may have got engaged ( Paula n Matt ) Wtg Both of you and nice ring as I was lucky enough to see it. ( Shame I could not wrench it of Paula’s finger it probably would have paid for my next holiday hehe ( Only Joking )

These are on the beach with steps leading down on to the beach or direct into the sea depending on the tide.. lots of crabs outside under villas at night great fun watching the crabs run around. They have a 4 poster bed with a high ceiling with a fan about 15 foot up in the room a great shaped roof inside as you will see by my photos. These rooms have a Tv and a CD player but no Jacuzzi a great view to see the sunrise as you lay in the bed.. I found it great to leave blind open and let the sunrise and wake me as it hit my face..honeymoon villas

Yup as you know I was posting from merru whilst I was there the first and part of second week I used the internet café was sooooo slow I coulda drank a beer awaiting pages to load up.. So I was so glad when I plugged in my laptop in the room was twice as fast and internet connection was free.
Although very soon I am led to believe that this service will be charged for at some point when they get rid of the gremlins. Also if you have no laptop with you you can log on using the Tv and check out sites etcc but this is still bieng worked on at the momment.
The Room itself WOW If you can afford it BOOK ONE I will say no more I think the photos will show these rooms far more than I can tell you. Apart from the base of the Bloody bed read on in tips later.

I think its sold as one room so a 2 bedroom water villa very nice I must say.
These are realy like 3 jaccuzzi water villas with interconneting doors the one on left and right are bedrooms the one in the middle is a sitting room … So a tv in sitting room and a tv in the sitting room and the jaccuzzis are out on the balcony as they face directly out to the sea ..
I did not ask but if they wanted to they could just leave connecting doors locked and use the 2 on outside as jacuzzi water villas.
They also have a small Dvd library for those rainy days …in new meeru village for everyone to use.

No competition for me they have there differences but I feel the Kanamu is a proper yacht and that was my choice I refused to go out on the Sarah as it is a converted trawler it has been converted and some people actually preferred it but not for me sorry. You leave at 9am sail for about 2-3 hrs to a snorkelling island and you snorkel then climb back onboard for your dinner very nice as there trip was only half full I guess it made it even better.. then you sail again to a sand bank depending on tide a snorkel again… Then you set sail for home and then its DOLPHIN time there were hundreds of them and they were flipping and jumping for a while then about 20-30 swam along with the yacht for about 45 minutes awesome sight,,
Would have been even better if they use the sails as well but its all done with the ships engine no sails I am afraid but a definite trip not to be missed .

Photo Plane Trip

I never did this, this time year but will comment on last years trip as its still the same. You go out via Dhoni to meet the plane. Climb aboard and you fly around Meeru and lots of other islands great for pictures I guess that’s why its called a photo trip he he but as Paula stated its dependant on weather so it could be cancelled at last minute and they need a certain amount of people to sign up for this trip to go ahead . Tip Get on 1st you get to see the pilots flying the plane and your in front of the engines better pictures.

R/CRUSOE Never done this so cant comment.

Great fun again for everyone you leave about 5:30 on a dhoni you actually see sunset on this trip aswell but rarely see dolphins as they go a different way out. But great fun the staff bait your hook you drop it over the side untill it hits bottom quite a way when the hook hits bottom and your lin goes slack wind in about 3 turns and hey presto YOU will feel the fish biting and when you do yank the line after 5 mins if you dont feel fish biting they have stolen your bait he he clever fishes in MALDIVES wind your line all the way in and staff will put hook on your bait for you it gets dark and you fish while its dark there are lights in on the dhoni ( DO NOT MIS ITS GREAT FUN) You do not have to touch bait… or put bait on hook … or take fish of your hook … just enjoy the fun I garantee the basket on your dhoni will end up having at least 20-30 fish in it before your done thats 30- betwen everyone fishing of course. BIG TIP Your hands will smell of fish when you get back and wash your hands use cold water and soap then use hot water and soap .. Because hot awater first cooks the fish and harder to get rid of smell ( A Chef taught me that Yes I am domesticated he he )

If you cant do the Love boat trip this is deffinatly the other main trip to see the DOLPHINS you leave just before sunset on a dhoni and normally the dolphins come out to play most of the time no age limit on this trip so you may take the children ( Mr + Mrs Beastie Take Note )

Never did this trip year but my packages of crayons etc. where delivered for me

Submarine Trip / Male

OK I did this last year note I put heading Submarine Trip / Male I did this for a reason you go to Male on Speed boat then you get on a dhoni to the submarine station you spend 45 minutes down in submarine you go round a reef and sit on bottom after trip back on dhoni and back to Male where you await about 2 hrs for the Male trip to Finnish there walkabout so if you want you get a couple of hours in Male aswell (Read Male Trip )

Male Trip

Ok Male Trip speedboat to Male then you get approx 4 Hours walking round on a guided tour or on your own your safe on your own but you do get hassled by locals to go into there shop etc. The gold is cheaper on Male than Meeru as they do not have overheads as they have on resort but that’s your choice I think its all good gold etc. but on Meeru Sifanis are OK ( See Sifani Section )

Sifani Jewellers on Meeru

These are a very good jeweller I bought a ring last year the guy said any problems contact the London office well my ring was a little to tight the guy said when you get home out of heat it should fit OK well it never so as I went back this year I took it back they made the ring larger at no extra cost so great people to deal with I would recommend them every time. Big Tip whatever price he starts at aim to drop his price by 50 % yes 50 % and you will get a bargain mine is worth 40% more in UK that what I paid in Meeru ..

Sea Fishing

I did 3 sea fishing trips and caught fish on two of those. This was mainly down to the guys I went with and my own knowledge as the guys who take you out are not really experienced fishermen but Mere are correcting these and have just found a proper fisherman to go out and with his experience will ensure more fish get caught and hopefully some larger ones as this subject will be boring for fish friendly people any information anyone fishermen want feel free to mail me .

I do not dive so no comment here

I did not do this the main differance from the 3 island trip is you go to 2 resorts and I heard no complaints about prople who did this trip.

I did this last year and I am told its still the same you go to a snokelling isalnd whilst there you have a barbaque. Then you go to a local island so take some $$$$ to spend. Then you go to another resort for a while then you head back to Meeru well worth going on.

The Grass has mainly died due to the salt water from the Tsunami but if your a keen golfer that would not deter you as the pictures will clearly show.

Sorry I never tried the spar so I can not comment but everyone I spoke to said they were great some even felt 10 years younger. Maybe I should have paid a visit He He.

The Staff
One word I gues Awesome

If your staying in a Jacuzzi water villa watch the base of the bed as it sticks out about 6 inches further than the matress and you will possibly smack your leg on it just above shin hieght and it hurts.
Also watch out or you may stub your toes on it aswell proof I got graze just above my shin and ask steve I know he stubbed his toe on it … usefull tips I hope.
Also in the jacuzzi water villas Crabs climb up your ladder from the sea so if you dont like crabs you have a shower for showering of the salt when you come out of sea well just unscrew the shower head aim at the crabs and the jet is now strong enough to knock em into sea without bieng cruel then just simply put shower head back on.
If your going on a trip or thinking about booking and would like to go with mainly brits as someone else has said look at the surnames on the trip not that other europeans are not fun but language could be an issue the simple fact that we only speak english…
kayaking great fun but remember which way current goes and when u start go agaisnt current when u paddle round island to begin with as you WILL run out of energy and you can then let the current take you back many went with current to start and were seen pulling the kayaks back totally exhausted.
Ok last Tip when you cross the roads on Meeru look left then right as they drive on same side of road as we do the road through middle of the island is now bieng called the A1 he he well it was by most of us..
Fish around the resort spotted daily were Rays Sharks Fish And More Fish Since the Tsunami and lots of reef have ended up in the laggon I think will entice more fish and more colurfull fish in time to come although there are hundres now it will become even better the largest shark I saw was approximatly 5 foot long ( No not a fishermans tail either he he ) On moat parts of beach walk out about 5 feet stand there and you will see hundreds of fish when you see my photos you will see a shark up close and personel as I stood out totallt still for 30 mins then one swam thro my legs . Tips just watch where you walk as there are are few little sting rays about they normally swimm off as you get about 5 feet away so splashing as you walk through the water is highly recomended.

Departure a Sad day

Day of departure well Monarch do it again Technical problems so no flight home , well not until tomorrow anyway… so Day 21 May 30th not Meeru.s fault so we all went to a 9am meeting to explain we leave tomorrow .
All kuonis guests get a 3 min phone call per room so if you with your partner you get 3 minutes if your alone you get 3 minutes so my question is should not every guest get a 3 min call this does not concern me but it has others and I totally agree with them..
Now for the best part as we are delayed on Meeru for 24 hours shame eh !!! The rep tells me that everyone will be on full board basis until we leave which includes 2 free soft drinks with every meal ..any other items i.e. alcohol must be paid for.
My question to the rep was surely as its not our fault and I would rather be going home
( only joking but I cant tell her I do not want to go home )
We should surely all be on all inclusive as its not our fault the reply was"""" this is what the kuoni manager has said.
I replied well call him back and tell him what I have said and get back to me within the hour please.. its now 10am Meeru time she has till 10:30 ..
What should I do, any ideas
If I can get kuoni to pay for the drinks aswell
Meeru can get more money from the travel agent ( That would be a first ) The travel agents pay ???

Well I got the reply from kuoni " All those who where on All Inclusive will continue on all inclusive till they Depart Wooohoooooo one up for the tourists against the Travel Agents Bearing in mind 68 kuoni guests where stuck at Gatwick Sunday night and now fly out Monday at approximately 4pm and will arrive at Meeru at approximately 8am Tuesday where we return on there plane…We have an early morning call at 4am ( Geez is it dark then ? )
WAIT ALL CHANGE got back to room at 7pm THE PLANES STILL NOT FIXED our new departure time is 1pm on Tuesday unless they encounter further problems with the plane we are now on plan c ….
I feel sorry for those stuck at Gatwick awaiting news that the plane is ready ….
It started raining at midnight whilst I was drinking my night cap its raining that hard you can only see 10 feet in front of you pheww I guess I left the bar just in the nick of time. Thought I might have needed to use my straw as a snorkel
Well I wont hold my breath that monarch fix the plane just enjoy my extended stay on Meeru the island just wont release me.
I just want to come home ( NOT ) 22 Days is Just Not Enough J
Finally left Meeru at 13:30 on the 31/5/05 only a day late lucky me.
This was the only day I did not have a smile on my Face …..
Well monarch what can I say some people wont believe what there reading but here goes boarded the flight home it was 98% full we got everyone on board and guess what …my seat was ROW 13 D
IT was in certainly lucky for me AS I ONCE AGAIN HAD 3 SEATS TO MYSELF SO I got out my lappy and typed this so I would not forgot to mention Monarch did good for a change so I cant complain…
Just a thought for everyone after making a few enquires if you want to go to Maldives and your told the only flights are Sunday and Monday cause that’s the days travel agents use Monarch WELL I have since found out you can fly any day you want BUT it will probably coast £150 each extra to go on a scheduled flight any day you like and Emirates and the other airlines normal seats ARE BETTER THAN Monarchs PREMIUM CLASS so if you decide to upgrade with Monarch don’t bother use that money in normal class with scheduled airlines as apparently its better than Monarch Premium So you could go out on Friday evening and have 14 nights holiday and be back in time for work on a Monday instead of a Tuesday / Wednesday with Monarch..
Special thanks go to,

Alim ( Management team ) Ismail ( Management team )
And Rasheed ( Management team ) For all there Help and the hospitality shown to me on my trip.

Not forgeting Ismail My Waiter in the favi Resurant always the best …. And hes got a great MP3 player From me as a Gift many others were offering money to buy it specially the sri lanken chefs…
The Star of Meeru this year was a waiter in the Dhoni Bar he goes by the name of MUDRIKATH.
His please thank your and he always found time to chat he is a credit to meeru there is no way I can thank him enough for the service he gives on behalf of Meeru.
I am not saying for one minute other waiters are not good, there all good but this little Guy is simply the best and anyone going soon please say hi from me ( Ken The Ref ) And say Cheers Big Ears and watch him smile, his smile alone will make you smile for hours…….
I hope this report is read as I have written it its my view some may disagree some may agree it is no way written to upset anyone.. any questions from anyone feel free to ask on here or mail me direct or send me a Private message, Or pop into (---) Sunday night 7pm as I will be there to answer any questions and any critics.
And Hopefully have a link for all my pictures by then….
I just hope That Meeru does not allow the resort to get that them and us feeling as it would spoil the perfect holiday.
I hope this has been as enjoyable to read as it was to write the memories will stay forever Meeru has that effect.
Hope there is not to many typing Mistakes. If there is no doubt Lynne will let me know he he

In conclusion

Monarch Deffinatly need to deal with certain issues although I had no problems with attendants etc. they do need better seat pitch and Tv Screens in the back of the seats.
Please remember this is written through my eyes and my experiences any questions feel free to ask away and if your going soon have a great time and if you got room just put me in your suitcase.
I reserve the right to add more at a later date if my memory remembers anything else he he

Couples only - fantasy island and love boat in one!!

from Chris_Potter
After a long flight it is a one hour boat transfer from Male airport to Meeru - made me and the others feel a bit sea-sick, I would recommend taking the boat plane as it offers a great photo opportunity of the Islands from the air and is much faster and is a special thing to do (daytime only!!). We spent first 3 nights in a superior land villa and then upgraded to a water villa - not over the water but it has it's own steps down to the ocean - fantastic decision as it has a 4 poster bed and you also get to eat in the much nicer restaurant on the island where you get to choose your table - it is allocated in the other restaurant however this did enable us to meet some nice people!! There are lots of trips to go on but ensure you book them on the day you arrive to ensure you don't miss out - bring your diary to organise your trips so you know exactly what you are doing and when! The best trip was the love boat - seems expensive at $170 per couple but we saw dolphins, pilot whales, sharks and turtles as well as visiting a small island, having lunch on the deck and I even captained the yacht for a while!! There are about 10 double cabins below deck - so if you fancy a rest or something... then this is for you! I chose to have a sea-sickness pill before the love boat - it worked for me but my girlfriend was sleepy all day - the boat was very stable so I recommend no pill, also all drinks are included in this price. Other excursions are the house reef snorkelling - highly recommended but beginners should wear the life jackets on offer, the night fishing - we went on a very wet and windy night so all felt a bit sick, caught some amazing fish that they cook for you the next day for dinner - basically don't go if it is a choppy sea, but do it at least one night during your stay. Forget the hermit crab race night - just a way for the reps to make some money and all over in 40 minutes. Best place to snorkel on the island is between the over the water spa and the over the water villas - a coral reef about 80 feet long just to the right as you walk out on the jetty to the water villas. Beware the Titan trigger fish though - if you see one turn slowly away and swim fast - they can attack and may bite, so wear flippers when snorkelling at all times - better to get your flipper bitten then your toe!! Gets dark just after 6pm every day - so get up early and make the most of the daylight - at 7am the ocean is calm and looks incredible. The island is so relaxing and stunningly beautiful - enjoy your stay in paradise, we will return to the Maldives some day probably to a different island only because there are so many others to choose from.

Tropical paradise - exactly like the pictures!

from st5om
Meeru is a beautiful tropical island, and unlike many other holiday resorts is exactly like the pictures you saw before you got there. An army of gardeners/maintenance men are up from first light clearing rubbish and racking over sand to maintain it's brochure like appearance.

Staff are efficient, friendly and cannot do enough to help. On our arrival at our land villa (417), we discovered our room safe wasn't working and within 15 minutes of us reporting it to our room attendant, someone was there fixing it.

The land villa accomodation was fantastic, air conditioned and much better than the prefab style standard accomodation so if your budget can stretch to that, or the yet more impressive jacuzzi villas then do it. Room attendants visit twice daily and you will return at night to discover your bed sheets folded in an origami style display!

All inclusive is worth it ONLY IF you enjoy QUITE A FEW drinks of an evening! Cocktails are not included as part of the all inclusive, so again you end up stepping out from the confines of the all inclusive package to partake of "sundowners." The 2 excursions offered as part of the all inclusive package include a sunset trip of an hour which finishes a good half hour before the sun actually gets near to setting, and a fishing trip which obviously is not to the vegetarian taste! Instead take a $20 afternoon sea trip by Dhoni to the nearby Dhfusi island, which is a fishing village, and see how the other half REALLY live. It makes a mockery of all television notions of what its like to live on a tropical island. Tsunami damage is evident and impoverished living is the norm.

The abundant food there is glorious and beautifully presented but restricted if you are all inclusive offering only the choice of the one main restaurant. All inclusive aside, dinner on board the swedish built yacht; The Hagen (sunk during the tsunami but salvaged, pumped out and repaired beautifully to its previous condition)is an additional expense you should willingly try. The maldivian snapper with skewers of tiger prawns was so good we returned for more later on in our stay. Likewise, dinner at the Asian Wok - with a waters edge table and waves lapping a few feet away from where you're eating - is romantic, peaceful and very palatable.

Sometimes we felt that the island was slightly grasping at straws in terms of activities to do once you'd done the crab racing, scuba diving and snorkelling to death, but if you are looking for real rest and relaxation in a breath taking environment then this is where you'll find it!

Top Local Tips for Male

Nightlife in Meeru Sit back and relax. There is not really a night life on Meeru, which is perfect, just sitting in the bar having a relaxing drink. It cannot be beaten.

sea plane just pay that bit extra for the plane transfer saves you time ,take some great photos, see othe islands and no need for a sea plane tour well worth the upgrade for the experience

great bargain be careful of the all inclusive package (read your room manual)
