Top Local Tips for Petaling Jaya

Taxis If you're going to the city center, you basically need to pay the meter and an additional 2 Ringgit. If I recall correctly, going to the city center cost about 10 ringgit.

Great value, hairy driving Sit in passenger seat, and look out towards the pavement - then you won't see the super scary driving going on all around you. All taxis cheap as chips, but don't be afraid to barter if you think the price is too high especially when picking up in tourist areas.

Take the airport taxi 1) In KL the taxi drivers are difficult and may refuse to take you if the don't want to. Usually they won't use the meter but will tell you up front how much it will cost. This is alway much higher than if they used the meter. Anyway they are pretty cheap. 2) I was advised by a colleague to take the airport taxi service because of the above. There is a desk as you exit customs and before you enter the main airport terminal. If you ask for a car instead of the limo it will cost you only 77 Ringgit. The car is very new and Air conditioned, this is in contrast to the ordinary crappy taxis you get from the hotel. Back to the airport cost 70 Ringgit and I think the guy at the concierge takes a 10 - 20 Ringgit payment from the driver.
