Not the standard you expect in the far east, reminded me of a typical Spanish money making hotel, on the same trip we stayed in several 5* hotels and the Parkroyal charged nearly double in the bar and resturant, 5 minute walk and you eat and drink for half the price. If you do stay at the Parkroyal pay extra and avoid the hill side view rooms as its actually a noisy construction site that the rooms look onto, the rooms were clean but very dated. The beach was nothing special and the touts were a nightmare with quad motor bikes and horses on the beach infact hotel security guarded the hotel entrance all day to keep them out. Around the pool most of the loungers have towels on the by breakfast, people reserve 2 each 1 in the shade and another in the shade so get up early to put your towels out. You can do a lot better.
Nothing To Do... But To Lounge

The lounge bar is the best thing of GPP in Penang. The room need a refreshment, the beach is shabby, the pool way too hot (?clean?), the pool staff impolite (they can't keep their eyes of your wife), the mixture of visitors bizarre. But the worst is that -besides sunbathing- there's really nothing to do but to go to Georgetown for some mediocre shopping. A cabdriver said the all the activity moved to KL. I really cannot recommend a stay in this environment for over three days.

(Suresh) is an asshole, we express our dissatisfaction on the room we had (SMALL AND PRICEY!!) and he just said that the room was meant for 2 people. Hey, if I were to come as a couple, I would say the room still very small!! Imagine? If we want to put an extra bed, he said that we need to move out the sofa in the room to make way for the bed!!!! Ridiculous!!! Paying so expensive and I can't use everything in the room!!
And oh yeah! I ask for a late check out at 3pm as I was check in at a very late hours..oh no!..they gave me a round around treatment and at last they didn't allow me to. They even send me a CHECK OUT NOTICE under my room door on my last night stay, asking me to leave the hotel exactly at 12NOON sharp!! Where is the courtesy here!!
It the best to stay at Shangrila Golden Sands, although is kinda outdated but it much worth every penny you pay. Never recommend this hotel to anyone!! I'm regretting every moment of my stay there!!
