Historical Traveller Reviews of Mutiara Burau Bay Beach Resort Hotel
This hotel is not recommendable.
Incredibly, we came to the hotel and ascertained that we a Bungallow got. When we went to this, we have found approx. 20 mosquitoes and a cockroach in the room. The whole Bungallow is made cheap, above all, the bath. In the evening as us wanted to go to bed, we saw that the bedclothes was stained. Thus we got at 3 o'clock in the morning another Bungallow. The beach and swimming-pool is very much already, however, the lodging is catastrophic. So that it is not enough, the service has woken up the whole group in tomorrow at 8 o'clock AM to control the minibar. This hotel is not recommendable.
P.S. The shown pictures on their website are macked up!

Perfect!! That is all I can say about this hidden heaven. The staff was extremely wonderful, always smiling. Nothing seems to border them from delivering an excellent service. The resort itself is perfectly situated and nature well protected. Mutiara Burau bay is even better than some of 5 star resort. You will have to isit to believe it!
Great place, best vacation ever
This is the best place I have ever stayed at. Kind and frendley service. Excelent scenery, great pool. They realy undestand to make guests feal at home. We will defenetly come back to the Mutiara. If you visit just remember that you are not paying for a 5 star luxery hotel, but you get more than you pay for.
We got to know all the staff and we are still talking to them by e-mail daily.
t believe the moaners!!
It really annoys me to see such poor reviews of hotels by people who are typically the ones you see all over the world looking to complain about anything. These are the kind of people who will go to a resort/hotel and spend as much time looking for faults as they do actually relaxing and enjoying the place. rant over, the hotel:
You should be aware that you are not paying for, therefore will not get 5* Luxury. If you want that, check in to the Datai or Andaman. However, I styed here for two weeks and would not hesitate in returning.
Staff - I have never met such freindly staff in all my travels. They just could not do enough for me and my partner. These people are paid an absolute pittance and work from 8am - 10pm soemtimes later and their attitude towards making your stay better can not be beaten. As long as you are polite with them they will help you with any needs.
Hotel Rooms - The rooms are basic, they do have a full range of satelitte channels showing films and sports from around the world. The air conditioning is basic but works very well. The cabanas are great, they are not huge, but how much time do people really spend in there anyway! The only complaint would be the showers which were not up to European Hotel standards, but they were OK for what we needed. The beds are comfy and the sheets changed daily. There is no noise from the music blaring, and we were close to the bar, the only noise is from the monkeys on the roof, which although frightening at first is only ocassional.
Location - Although quite secluded the hotel is not far from most places worthy of a visit. It was 45 mins to Kuah town costing £5.00 in a taxi. We hired a car and mopeds and got there in less time than that. The cable car and oriental village are close by and worth a visit altough there is not much to do there besides the cable car, i wouldn't borther eating there as there are much better places to go. There is a lovely Italian rest on the harbour just down the road and the prices are cheap. For the cheapest and nicest food, go to Kuah town or try eating in one of the local villages we pais £6.00 for 6 beers, two bowls of rice and 6 main dishes in a place very close to the nightmarket in Kuah town.
The facilities at the hotel are great, the hotel was quite quiet so there were always beds available in the day, the band was great at night and we had a great holiday there. If you have any questions, please post them on the forum and will answer them for you. Go there, you'll love it!

We checked into Mutiara Burau Bay Resort on the 3rd March. On the very first evening we got a taste of its staff. One gentleman named Harrison, basically a bartender at their Oyster Bar behaved in the most rude manner over the phone with my wife. He went to the extent of refusing to transfer the call & boastfully asked us to compain to whomsoever we wished. Upon calling the duty manager Mr. Din, I was promised that they will take action against this Mr. Harrison. The GM Mr. Maxson Abdullah seemed to be never available. Looks like instead of the guests of the hotel he himself is forever on vacation. The very next night, on the 4th March, we reached for the Dinner Buffet (Priced at RM45, per head + Taxes). We were told that Dinner Buffet was available till 10:30PM. We reached there at around 10:10 and saw that the staff was ready to clear the spread. Upon enquiring they mentioned its only till 10:30PM. When I mentioned that it was still 20 mins to go they asked us to take a table & promised that we can go ahead with the dinner. We could understand that they were in a hurry to clear so we mentioned that we would take the main course & then they can clear it & let the desert & fruits stay so that we can take them later. 5 mins later one of the waiter got us the desert forks. In another 5 mins when my wife finished dinner & went to get the Desert, both the desert & fruits had been cleared. When we asked the staff, they could only manage to get a few slices of Papayya for us. Naturally, we refused & came back to our room. We checked out the next day & moved to Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort & had a very fulfilling & pleasant stay. Mutiara Burau Bay is basically a cheap & lousy place to stay. A total waste of money in terms of both lodging & boarding. I wish best of luck to anyone who decides to stay there
Visited this hotel for a week in Jan 06. Lovely location, rooms basic but clean, we had cabanna No. 1027 facing west, we saw spectacular sunsets every night, lots of wildlife, kingfishers, bats, monitor lizards, Set in well kept gardens, lots of trees for much needed shade in afternoon. Breakfasts very good. Oriental Village very close for a selection of restaurants, Cable car well worth a visit. We had a lovely relaxing week.
I stayed at the Mutiara Burau Bay about a week ago. Although I an enjoyed the stay I was very dissapointed in the the accomodation. We stayed in a 2 sleeper cabana. I found the cabana to be very small and cramped. Although both the room and bathroom was very clean and neat it had very little extra space and appeared quite old. It was a bit dark and dreary. So if you looking for a place that is very modern with lots of luxury this is not the place.
On the other hand the service at the hotel was great, the breakfast was nice and the views was fantastic. The many different animals that visited us made up for the room. We had monkeys on our roof and a commodore dragon walked pass on one day. Lots of birds and lizards. All in all it was a pleasant stay and if the resort could upgrade there rooms it would great.
I stayed here for 5 days. The cabinas are tiny. They are all close together so there is no room for privacy. The loud music goes on quite late into the night.I was expecting from the reviews i had read that this was a nice secluded resort ideal for relaxing. It is right in the tourist trap area. Please avoid the oriental village at all costs. The food there is so overpriced. If you goto Langkawi and stay at any of the resorts on the south west coast please hire a car and get out and explore. We managed to find some good local food.I was looking forward to a nice peacefull holiday and to get to experience some Malaysian culture different to the mainland areas of KL and PJ.What i got was the costa del sol meets malaysia.
I must say though that there were 2 staff at the resort that were very helpful but that wont make me return.
Amazing place, will return for third stay
Our second stay at Mutiara Burau Bay was even more memorable that the first. We had a fabulous room with arguably the best view of the sunsets in the whole development (no 1073 if you ask!). We had stayed at the Andaman the previous week which was also amazing, but I have to say the diversity of wildlife we saw at Burau Bay beat even that resort (the Andaman also doesn't get the sun setting over the sea...) Sea otters swam by us most days, the monitor lizard went for his daily stroll past our cabana, the spectacled moneys sat on our balcony, kingfishers and hornbills flew overhead...wonderful. The beach is lovely and the whole place is kept immaculately clean. Their is such an emphasis on the environment on Langkawi, it really warms the heart to see it. We dined every evening al fresco at the fabulous Seashells Beach Cafe where Ravina and her friends made every effort to ensure we had a wonderful time. The cocktails were something else and very well priced. The portions are amazing and the chicken burgers rock! The band played every night (even in torrential rain of which we saw our fair share) and lots of people danced. If you're looking for 5 star luxury, this isn't the place for you. The rooms are pretty basic but clean and air conditioned and to be quite honest, the views, wildlife and sunsets more than make up for anything lacking in the luxury dept. You can walk to the Oriental Village (not really much cop to be honest...) and the Langkawi cable car (go!). I also loved feeding the hundreds of tame rabbits that were running about at the archery centre (yes, they took their lives in their own paws!) at the bottom of the cable car. You can also do a number of watersports from the hotel and kayak (or walk at low tide) to a nearby island, but beware, its's mosquito hell on that place. Spend a day with Langkawi Coral snorkelling (or diving) at Pulau Playa. It's fabulous and there's also shark feeding...not in the snorkelling area! Make sure you grab some bread rolls from the lunch (included in the price) to feed the fish, it's quite spectacular. All in all, Mutiara Burau Bay is a wonderful, relaxing place to unwind amongst wonderfully friendly people. I can't wait to go back for a third time.

We stayed at the Mutiara Burau Bay Buray Bay August 2005. It was awesome. The grounds are very clean and so are the room. A/C, Cable TV, Nice bathroom, hot shower, hair dryer etc. The beach is beautiful and so is the pool. The staff treats you like family. There is a restaurant that overlooks the ocean feaurting great musicans! Very romantic and really good food. You might see a couple of monkeys. You can get a massage/ use the internet and there is a telephone in the bungalow. The location is awesome, a very beautiful spot. There is also a guard that patrols at night. Huge breakfast, they serve everything from vegetarian to a meat eaters delight.I like it better than the Datai.
