Nice but needs improvement

from AnnaNottingham
We stayed here for 5 days. No major complains- but there is a need for improvement. THe beach area is a bit dirty- the hotel has a funny smell on the inside. The food is also expensive in this hotel and the breakfast was not very good ( even though we didnt buy it, you can see it how bad it was). Overall, good but not good enough.

No Complaints

from Hervey
Have just arrived home after 8 days at the holiday Villa and 5 days in KL.
Holiday Villa is a good hotel if you want a rest, best pool I have ever seen, most of the staff very fiendly. Only one was not , and he could have been the Manager, he ignored all the guests, walked around with his nose in the air.
I am making a few suggestions for the hotel, I have worked in many and stayed in lots.
First, at the pool, they would do a lot better if a waiter came around the pool to see if you required any drinks or food.
As for he bar inside instead of 50% off drinks in happy hour offer buy one get one free.
The person who complained about the internet we had no problems and used it every day, Breakfast was okay, but we went across the road for dinner at the Boat, much cheape.
Rooms were good, and well serviced.
also with the pool bar. it is very hard to get to the bar with no steps in the pool, hard if you were old.
I know it is hard to cater for non Muslims, but you need to try harder.
otherwise no problems with hotel and would stay there again.

Enjoyed our stay.

Five of us recently stayed at Holiday Villa on 17-21st May 2006 during our travels of the far east. We had rooms 201 & 202 on the far right of the hotel. We found our stay very pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel in general is nice for a 3 star hotel / resort. Our room was spacious, the only bad point was the partial view of the building site next door but there was no building work being carried out throughout our stay and we were hardly in during daylight hours anyway apart from the use of the pool in the mornings. If you decide to stay here, ask for a room towards the middle and to left side of the resort away from the building site so as not to ruin your views. This was the only small gripe we had during our stay.
The hotel has two restuarants, a large pool with poolside bar, childrens pool and jacuzzi, beach bar and an airconditioned indoor bar (happy hour from 5-8pm). The sea is a few steps away beyond the pool and the beach was very quiet. Just perfect!
We spent most of our time sightseeing and hired a small car and two mopeds to get around. Car cost MR50, mopeds cost MR30 each for first day. Then, car MR45 and motorcycle MR27 for each subsequent days hire from "The Shop", the local convenience shop opposite the main gates to the resort at about 11 o'clock direction. The cars and mopeds are very cheap indeed and alot of fun!. Highly recommended to get around the island as taxis, although very cheap, will cost just as much return (RM40-50), to say Kuah the biggest town on the island about 11Km away.
There are plenty of good local restuarants opposite the resort but all are outdoors, so use plenty of jungle strength mosquito repellant as the little blighters will take a nibble from you. For some reason, the locals don't get bitten, just us foreigners...
A bit of advice, when you arrive at the airport, don't take up the car hire and local excursion offers as these are extremely overpriced. They will try to pressurise you with discounts etc. Still around MR150 - MR380 for 4- 6 hours tour of the islands. Go the "The Shop" oppsite the resort, we paid MR40 (about GBP6-7) for a 4 1/2 hour tour by speed boat (Highly recommended) and was probably the best excursion we had. Great fun! and Wow, what a view. This includes stops on some of the islands where you can swim in the sea, feed the Eagles, etc (must see/do)
If you are looking for a luxury 5 star resort, then this is not for you. Best try the Datai located on the North to North West side of the Island (about 5 times more expensive). But if you want a good affordable stay for your money, then this resort is it.

Above average for 3 star resort! Have a great holiday! We did....

Holiday Villa resort - Fabulous

from Ponks
We have just returned after spending 10 days at the Holiday villa on Tangah beach in Langkawi (April/May 2006). It is great resort with an enormous pool with outdoor jaccuzi and wonderful gardens. It is very well run and clean. The most important decision of the day to be made is whether to spend it at the swimming pool or 20m further to the snow white beach to laze under the casurina trees. there are parasailing and jetski available at an extra charge if you want it but it is not a noisy beach at all and you can relax very peacefully. We had heard prior to going that the beach was not suitable for swimming but we found it very nice indeed with small islands surrounding the bay making it very picturesque. We had one or two problems with the airconditioning which was being upgraded whilst we were there but the staff were more than amicable about upgrading us to another room where we were VERY comfortable. the views are stunning, the breakfast buffet more than adequate and the staff were very friendly to us and went out of their way to help. There are two restaurants in the hotel as well as the beach bar but there are also a large variety of different priced restaurants within close walking distance to the hotel as well as a convenience store right opposite where you can hire motor scooters or motor car for next to nothing. Rm35 a day for scooter or RM55 for a small car (with aircon etc) We would definitely go back to the Holiday villa as we had a marvelous holiday.

I Love Holiday Villa!

from qwertyu
I love Holiday Villa. I have been there twice. I woudl suggest you stay there if you just want somewhere nice in a good location with fantastic pool and beach, and if you are not planning on spending much time in your room. If you want somewhere really luxurious, then I would go somewhere else.

I found the rooms perfectly adequate. The towels are a bit small, but that is hardly something to ruin your holiday. The staff are friendly enough. Some of the staff at the pool bar can be a bit grumpy looking, but that doesn't bother me. The pool is huge and as warm as bath water, as is the sea. The pool and beach bars are very good for snacks and pina coladas. There are lots of water sports at the beach. The sand and water is very clean.

There are very cheap convenience stores just opposite, an excellent taxi service in the lobby and it is near to Sun Village, which is great. There are some great Chines restaurants opposite too such as The Boat and Fat Mums.

The breakfast is a bit strange. I mainly stuck to fruit, but the omelettes are good. Sometimes we had lunch at the beach bar, which do yummy satays, but mostly we went out for lunch and dinner.

It is such a nice hotel I really love it.

A trip to forget!

First and foremost I found that the staff were very rude, and unhelpful. Our shower leaked and our toilet did not flush properly and you often had to pump it to get it to flush. the towels provided did not dry you very well and they were very small.

The main restuarant was over priced for their terrible food. For example there soup came in a small cup, was watery and did not taste right and yet they charged a ridiculous 22RM.

The only time I wanted to use the internet in there 1 computer room, the line was down for 2 days.

I must however say that the canon shop which is privatley owned in the villa had very friendly and helpful staff

We loved it

from A TripAdvisor Member
We travelled to Langkawi in October 05 and I cannot understand why people are complaining. we had a great time. It is only a 3 star resort and we were aware of this but it is reflected in the price you pay. We spent 8 nights at the Villa and it was wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was what we expected and the breakfast was plain but filling. Our two major choices for each day was 1. the pool or the beach and 2. which of the restaurants up the street to eat at. Beer prices were over the top for a duty free island so I drank up the road, simple but sensible. We plan to return this year and will stay at the Holiday Villa again.

Great location

from Jellybabe
We just came from a stay there.Initially booked in at the Federal Villas, which was utterly disgusting, so we upgraded to a deluxe room . It is nice, but in no means my idea of deluxe.
The breakfast is also below standard, but we booked for the Christmas meal was GREAT!
However, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is great.
It is close to two excellent restaurants, Sun Cafe and Sunkarma.
We rented 2 scooters and had so much fun!

Very disappointing

from IonaHelen
Oh my goodness!! Where do I start! I stayed at the Holiday Villas in Langkawi from June 23rd to July 1st 2005. I had been staying at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Penang, which was very luxurious and then I moved on to this dump!!

First of all, the room I was given was next door to another room which was undergoing rennovation work (the whole hotel needs completely rennovated). There were pneumatic drills being used on floor and wall tiles and it was simply horrendous. I immediately asked to be moved. The reception staff kindly obliged but moved me just a bit down the corridor and I could still hear the drills! I was then moved for the 3rd time to a room that was filthy. I had to complain for the 4th time and was moved back to the area where the workmen there. The reception staff told me I would have to wait until the following day before they could give me the 5th room!! (Can I just point out that I've never ever in my life complained about a hotel room so that should tell you something)

Eventually, I was given my room and to be fair, it had a lovely view but the rooms are in a bad way. They seriously need redecorated and cleaned. I found all of the 5 rooms to be smelly and what was even worse was at night, because there is a gap under the door of the room, I found cockroaches crawling everywhere. The hotel is also not very secure. Loads of mosquitoes.

The was AWFUL!! Whatever you do, do not use the hotel restaurant. Completely substandard. I used room service on several occasions. On one instance, I was given the wrong food. Another occasion, the food was cold. Finally, it never arrived so I just gave up.

The bed sheets are not changed daily.
Overall, it's a bit of a dirty pithole and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The sea is very dirty too.

spacious room

from darlynn
i just got back from a 3D2N stay in holiday villa. it was great! I think its a 3 or 4 star hotel. the lobby is great, rooms are plenty and most impt is that they are clean & spacious! i got a normal deluxe room facing the garden and its fine. its good thing my room is not facing the pool else i maybe irritated from the noises at the pool! but if you love the pool, why not? the location is good. its at pantai cenang which is the south part of the airport. after driving throughout the island, we did not regret choosing this location as its relatively nearer to kuah town. if we had chosen to stay in pantai kok (north part from the airport), then we would take a longer time to reach kuah town and also miss out on the nightlife along pantai cenang. there are shops & restaurants along pantai cenang so its more fun to roam about. breakfast served is also not too bad tasting although i wish we have more varieties. we ate quite filling and could even skip lunch!

btw, holiday villa langkawi is more on the hotel style. if you prefer those cabanas style or beach houses, then this will not be suitable. also, the hotel has ample parking lots for your rented cars.

Book early I made a mistake thinking that the hotels will be available during low season. I was wrong! The hotel was fully booked , even the cheap ones. Luckily I managed to get this hotel.
