We booked this holiday as a package through travel agent in Australia and thought the price of 1400 A$ pp for 7 days quite reasonable. The resort was very comfortable and food very good. I loved the jungle setting, the ocean views, and the monkeys. We were warned though to keep doors locked to stop the monkeys looking for food in the rooms. We enjoyed Jet ski and windsurfing activities (very little wind though) and the pool & happy hour during which delicious tropical cocktails were available for 9 ringits (Approx A$3)Staff were very polite and service good, particularly the shuttle bus service which provided transport around the resort and to other parts of the island. Food is very cheap in casual eaterys around the island and very good.We travelled with our three adult children and we all enjoyed our holiday

Historical Traveller Reviews of Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort Hotel

t enjoy it

from global2
We stayed at the Berjaya in May 2004 in twin-room chalet closer to the beach. The chalet (made of wood) had gaps/cracks under the doors / floorboards / window frames.
The room was full of cockroaches every night (on average 5 a night) and we had to start sealing all the gaps with tissue paper or selotape. We also had the room fumigated but made no difference as the drains / drain pipes nearby had not been cleaned.
The food (especially Breakfast) can shared by Birds and the food was left open and in hot conditions for a long time, eg: cheese, bread. You don't know when a bird could have had a sample for it.
Also, Berjaya holds loud evening entertainment which can disturb customers more closer to the main building.
However, the Spa was beautiful and one of the best that I have experienced.

Great place for chilling out

Wasn't sure what to expect before arrival due to some 'questionable' reviews, but I was delighted by what I found, from the moment i dipped my feet in the 'warm bath' ocean to the delightful home-made cake put in my mini-bar on departure.
Berjaya might be a bit out of the way, but with the Oriental Village a 5 min walk away, the restuarants of Pantai Cenang only a 40RM (£5.50) return cab ride away, and the main town of Kuah within comfortable travelling distance, you can have all the facilities the hotel offers AND what else Langkawi offers within easy reach.
We were lucky to get a detached chalet within walking distance of main hotel, but I hear that the shuttle bus is an easy and convenient way of reaching the rest of the extensive resort.
Chalet was clean and well appointed without being 'oppulent'. Liked fridge/mini bar, free safety deposit box, toiletries and daily re-stock of tea/coffee! With supermarket at Oriental Village selling beer at 20p a can, soft drinks for less, and sprirts for around £5 a litre, the fridge was a godsend!
Due to tsumani aftermath, hotel (like the island as a whole) was running at well under half of capacity, which was good from a sun-lounger / restaurant booking point of view, but did mean evening entertainment was a bit muted. But I can imagine that with a full-house, the karaoke would go down a storm and the resident bands would get the house rocking.
Restaurants offer decent value (eat-all-you-want themed buffets each night for £9, good food at other restaurants for average £5 main course), but drink a bit expensive (£3 a pint of Tiger, £2.50 for spirit and mixer/cocktail) but half-price from 5pm-7pm.
Pool very nice, beach clean and well provided with beds, canopies and water sports.
Finally, the staff were very friendly, room cleaning was excellent, food quality and range was good, and facilities (including shop, Cyber cafe, gym etc) were all of a high quality.
I would happilly go back.

Loved the Berjaya, Langkawi Island

We stayed at the Berjaya at the end of March 2005. We had a Delux Chalet. From your balconies you have magnificant views, plus monkeys, lizzards, squirrels and birds to look at.
The accommodation was excellent. The service was great, and the food and drinks around the complex was of top quality. The Spa was fabulous offering pedicures, body wraps and a variety of massages. We would definately stay there again. If you want to venture out of the resort for a meal then you must try Bon Ton (must be a cat lover as it is also a rescue centre) and the Thai Barn Restaurant. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

dont listen to the megatives

I stayed here for 5 nights at the end of March and had a fantastic time, although it really depends on what you are looking for and also your expectations. All i wanted to do was unwind, relax, eat well, sleep well and have some cocktails! And the hotel ticked all the boxes. Staff are lovely, my chalet was comfortable and clean and the food was good (although the beach restuarant is by far the best). One of my main reasons for going was the spa and this more than lived up to my expectations - and the treatments are excellent value (not like other hotel spas I have been to). Its also very near the Langkawi Cable Car which is something not to be missed. If you are snobby and expect 5 star superior treatment then you may be dissapointed but if you want good value, friendly staff and a place to unwind then this is it!

One of the best we have stayed in

from Malaysiadream
I cannot understand some of the negative reviews. My husband and I had a wonderful and comfortable time at the Berjaya. We have nothing but praise for the warm hospitality which we received while we were guests there. Our chalet was absolutely brilliant, and very clean. We will be returning to the Berjaya for the second time in May this year. "CAN'T WAIT"

One of our favourites

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I returned again to the Berjaya, spending christmas there (and unfortunately the tsunami). We have stayed at other resorts in Langkawi but this is definately our favourite. It has a lovely little beach, great pool (and pool bar) and the rooms were just what we like.
If you like 5 star accommodation with flashy marble top benches then stay somewhere else. But if you like the more earthy, bungalow style room, then this is definately the place. The resort is a little out of the way if your into shopping but you can easily hire a moped or car for a reasonable price.
Only thing is make sure your room rate includes breakfast. Otherwise it's expensive to buy at the resort and there's not really any other options near by.

Execelent time at Berjaya

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I was at the Berjaya from 1st-7th march 2005 and we had a fantastic time there.
We stayed at one of the Deluxe chalet which had a small verandah with partial sea view and sitting on the verandah you'll definitely spot some hornbills and monkeys which is fun just remember to latch your slidding door when you are not watching them or the monkeys may enter your room.
The room itself is not luxury but clean and very comfortable.
The resort provide efficent 24 hours shuttle service to and from the main lobby.
Had most of our meal at the dayang cafe the staff are all very friendly and helpful, food at the cafe was good.
We usually go on excursion in the morning after breakfast went island hopping to the beautiful pregnent maiden lake a huge fresh water lake surrounded by tropical forest, went on mangrove tour, snorkelled at payar marine park among others and spend most afternoons under the cabanas on the resorts private beach and swimming in its calm sea. Spent some evenings enjoying a few drinks at the pantai bar situated on the beach.
We visted the oriental village which is about 7 minutes walk and took a ride up Mount Cincang via cable car which was a thrilling exprience and the view on top is simply stunning!
We rented a scooter for 60 ringgit a day.
Taxis from the resort to Kuah town cost 24 ringgit where we bought smoke, booze and chocolates which is really cheap. Do not buy at the airport is more expensive.
I would definately be returning to Langkawi and recommend Berjaya Beach Resorts to everyone.

fantastic staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
we went to berjaya resort in langkawi in june 2004, we could not have asked for better care and attention than what we recieved from all the staff, espcially in the dayang cafe, the staff went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after, and our six year old son was totally spoilt. We hope their are all well after the tsumani and send them our love.

Great place

Had our honeymoon there two years ago. Not quite the lap of luxury, but all very competently done. We were in a fairly basic chalet, but no complaints. The staff were very friendly (even when we kept blocking the toilet!).

I hope that they are all safe and well.

We've had two excellent stays at this resort. Went for superior accommodation which was excellent. Lovely pool, very good food, good restaurants nearby too. Plenty to see around the island.
