Shangri-La KL has always been a great hotel. The location is great; if you are into clubbing, you are in the right area. The Pub (on the first floor) is a good place to go for a drink. Sometimes there is a live band performing (after 8pm). There is also a live performance in the lobby lounge. An elegant hotel. Highly recommended.

My only complaint about this excellent hotel is that there is no dress code in the Lemon
Garden during breakfast. The Brits are easily
picked out by their shorts,flip-flops and
sleeveless tee-shirts. One doesn't expect to
see such slovenly people in such a wonderful
environment.

Superb accommodation, excellent staff and service. Couldn't be more helpful. Views to Petronas magical at night. Location great (apart from extreme sport of crossing road in front of hotel grounds- scary). Don't miss happy hour in the 'Pub' bar in hotel.

Not just a good hotel but in Lafitte it has the best restaurant in the entire area, Put together with the brilliant Lemon Garden casual buffet restaurant with a major mix of food regions and the fine Japanese food in Zipangu this means that you can really have a gastronomic feast over a few days.

We (hubby and I) stayed here for a week in May 2005. We both adored the hotel.

Effecient and speedy check-in. Even though we arrived from Europe very early in the morning we had no trouble at all getting our room before 9am. Reception staff were ever so polite and helpful handling dinner reservations and onward flight confirmations.

Spacious, tastefully decorated room, very clean and evening-turn down service is more like a second daily cleaning/re-stocking mission.

The gym is fantastic with very helpful staff. Spa is wonderful although we only used the complimentary part (i.e no massages or so), a terrific way to while away a few hours in the sauna and hot tub (not to mention those wonderful showers).

The pool, although small, was never crowded during our stay, I think I saw at most 12 people using it at any one time. I especially liked the double-sized sun loungers.

Buffet breakfast at Lemon Garden Cafe is out of this world, as is the evening buffet, although we found it a bit too crowded on weekend nights, better to go on a week night. Shang Palace Chinese restaurant was also very good.

It was my birthday during our stay and I was delighted to return to our room in the afternoon to find a beautifully presented tray with birthday cake complete with candles and a lovely card from the management.

One slight complaint I had is I felt the price of some things like laundry, internet or a simple cup of coffee in the lobby lounge to be unreasonably high.

Apart from that a truly wonderful hotel we would be delighted to visit again.

Superb Hotel

We stayed in the Shangri-la for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast break in July 2005.
The hotel has a superb location 5 minutes walk from the Petrona Towers and the CN tower.
Food was excellent the amount of choice for the buffet breakfast was second to none.
Friendly and helpfull staff made our stay more than comfortable
This hotel is definetly worth the Five star rating and I would recommend this hotel for a break in the city

A Great Stay, with even better follow-up

If you don’t have a free transport, be sure to take the KLIA Ekspres, a 30-minute fast train into the city. But I’d paid the “Value Rate” at the Shangri-La, which I think is known at most hotels as the rack rate. But Shangri-La makes it worth your while, in my opinion. The Value Rate includes Free Unlimited Laundry (I did about US$100 worth on one day!), shoe shine, breakfast for two, free broadband internet access in room, round-trip airport limo transfers (a Mercedes, stocked with bottles of water and a cool towel in the back seat), and--best of all--(for my 01:05am flight) a 6pm check-out. The Value Rate this time was about $127++, which is a lot more than other 5* hotels in KL, but to be honest I have never had a bad experience at a Shangri-La, and I was in a “I’ve been on the road 6 weeks, staying at 2-3* hotels, and I need to be pampered”) mood.
I often will pay the “Value Rate” at the Shang, and this was the perfect time to do it: I had a pile of laundry to do, wanted to be online a while and catch up on emails, have a nice breakfast, and, generally, after staying in a 2-star hotel in BKK the past few weekends (hello, cockroaches!), I wanted to get treated wonderfully. I was. This hotel has excellent, personal service, even though it was 100% full when I was there. When I checked in, they asked me if I would mind checking out at noon the next day--but I asked them to try and let me stay until 6pm due to my late flight, which the Value Rate allows--it doesn’t say “based on availability” or anything like that. But she said they were actually “minus 7” for the following night, so it might be difficult. At worst, I was welcome to freshen up in the gym showers if I needed to, but that didn’t sound too great. Anyway, I said ok. What could I do?
The next morning, when I got back from the very nice breakfast (most unique feature: a chocolate fountain, where you could dip fruits!), there was a message on my voicemail saying I was welcome to stay till 6pm. Yay. They remembered little ol’ me!
I went for lunch at a street stall a block from the hotel, went shopping under the gorgeous Petronas Towers and then down Sultan Ismail at Lot 10, and then hit the gym--a SUPERB gym, with a complete range of weight and cardio machines. The pool looked nice, and seemed to get sun most of the day, though I didn’t sample it.
I went and hung out with friends and had a light supper (anticipating my nice in-flight food on Malaysia Airlines First Class) after my 6pm check-out, and got my Mercedes back from the Shang to KLIA at 9pm (even though I had originally asked for a 10pm limo, they had changed it in about 15 seconds when I showed up an hour early for the transfer. A wonderful last moment to my stay).
One of the better hotel experiences I've had, especially since it didn't begin so well, with being unable to confirm the late check-out--but then, even better, they came through the next day and showed they hadn't forgotten me. Nice job!

i stayed at the shangri-la with 10 members of my family and i loved it. the food was nice with a range of western food and asian food at all meals. there was a wide variety depending on what you felt like. it was amazing. another thing that i loved was the chocolate fountain with biscuits, strawberries, marshmellows, bananas, EVERYTHING that you can imagine was in little bowls around it and the big chocolate fountain was in the middle. there were wooden skewers and everything was delicous. the buffet was amazingly humongous and the rooms were really nice and comforting. the staff were ok but we did have one incident. we bought some mirangues and we had an unopened box when we left and after housekeeping came, two were gone. two maids left the room. it was small but they stole it. none of our family ate it. we were all out. then on another ocassion, after coming back from the mall with the huge huge indoor themepark and amazingly big and fat roller coaster, one more was gone. we were convinced it was the maids, told the manager and got a free box. this was lovely hospitality. it was very hot in malaysia and when you came back from an activity, and walked into the lovely coolness, you honestly felt like you were in heaven. the phillipinos that sung every night were cute and good. my mum thought they were a crack up the way they danced about. they probarbly were. the dceorations were good. the pool was nice and it had no spa but it was good. the shops werent much, but showed culture.
i loved our stay and would DEFINITLEY come back.

We stayed there in June 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife was greeted with a bunch of flowers which really made our day. The staff were friendly from top to bottom. We had a view of the petronas towers from our room and it was a short walk away. The breakfast buffet each day was excellant and we both enjoyed the chocolate fountain a bit too much. Its the second time we have stayed in a shangri la hotel and i'm sure there will be a third.

Probably The Best Hotel In KL

Having stayed at the excellent Shangri-La in Bangkok I did not hesitate in booking four nights at the Shangri-La in KL. It exceeded our expectations in all respects. Probably better than the highly rated Mandarin Oriental. There are several excellent restaurants but for practicality and value for money go to the Lemon Garden restaurant for the buffet food. It has a reasonable outdooor pool, spa and all the usual facilities. Petronas tower and shopping complex is only a ten minute walk and the underground station is 15mins away. As it's a conference and business hotel it isn't really geared for children/families but saying that the Lemon Garden restaraunt buffet has a fantastic range of confectionary, cakes and chocolate fountain that only children could appreciate!

Stayed here for a few nights and it really didn't live up to our expectations at all! The room was small and the decor quite tired and in need of a bit of an update. I'd have to agree with the other reviews that the hotel in general is brash and a bit tasteless. I didn't find the service up to scratch for a 5 star hotel either.......our room door was left OPEN by the cleaning staff which we discovered after several hours, another day they simply forgot to clean it at all?! Trying to get any help from reception wasn't easy either. Having just stayed at the Andaman (Langkawi) were service is second to none, I was shocked at the difference in standards. Our one meal in the Shangri La verged on average and the prices were undeservedly expensive (£4 for a small beer?!). I'd recommend any one of KL's other 5 star hotels as an alternative any day....

Stayed there in May 2004. Pure luxury, good service, great food, very comfortable rooms and nicely located for key sightseeing activities.
Good entertainment & dining options near the hotel. Good shopping as well.
You won't go wrong with this choice. Go for it!

We stayed in this hotel as part of our honeymoon and loved it. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. We were offered to upgrade to a club room at a small extra charge which we decided to do and we were very impressed with the room we were given. Would definitely recommend this hotel although make sure you book in advance through a travel agent or website as their rack rates are very pricey.

Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur

Nice places to dine and shop Should you be in Golden triangle, you find fantastic choice of fine cusine, fantastic arabic food on the top floor of Suria KLCC, and Food Republi in PAVILION offers huge range of different food. We found food shelter there for our two weeks of holidays and dining was absolutely fantastic.Fantastic shopping places are, Suria KLCC, Pavilion.

Elephant Sanctuary & Football! Take this trip on a Friday. This is Muslim prayer day so the sanctuary is not open until the afternoon which means there are less people there which gives ou more chance to get close to the elephants. Plus the tour guide will find other things to do in the morning en route to the sanctuary. For example our guide took us on a side road through the rain forest and stopped at a small town, a hot spring, a rubber plantation and a small Batik workshop on the way. He took every opportunity to point out interesting things along the way including different fruit trees (including Durian), he also provided info on the history of Malaysia as well as demonstrating an astonishing knowledge of the English Premier League which they see more of than we do in the UK! If you can talk to a Malaysian Male about football you will have a friend for life!
