Historical Traveller Reviews of Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

This was my 3rd stay (last one was kinda 2 years back though). I was looking forward to my 2 nites and frankly I now rate it as a NON-RETURN. The rooms are shabby these days, and worse the desk manager was outright rude. Had booked a non-smoking floor, but we got assigned differently. We then asked this young particular Malay lady to rectify things (I assume she was in charge)..she was babbling away and did not respond. Her colleague then took charge, and I could hear rattle away in Malay (it mean "take it or leave it). Such attitude!
The buffet spread is not exactly one that can write home about. AVOID THIS HOTEL.

3 Stars at Best

I am on Business in Kuala Lumpur at least once a month. I had not stayed at the Renaissance in several years and decided to give it a try after having a pleasant business dinner in one of the hotel's restaurants a couple of months ago. The public areas of this hotel (the Renaissance Wing) are impressive and suggest you are in a 4 - 5 star hotel -- this impression continues on even through the room elevators....but stop. The rooms in this hotel (at least two that I was assigned before giving up, checking out the day I checked in and returing to main stay, the Mandarin) are in desperate need of an update. Orange stained rugs (from what ??), dim lighting, dark bathrooms and peeling wallpaper make one suspicious about what has been going on in the rooms and whether management is monitoring the clearly deteriorating situation.

It is likely, if not certain, that this hotel does not meet Marriott's minimum standards (Marriott owns and licenses the Renaissance name and opeartes many of the hotels) -- how this hotel has survived with a 4 star / diamond status is a curiousity. Indeed, when I challenged the onduty management about some of the defficiencies he actually claimed it was a 5 star hotel. I think not and would not allow a rating of greater than 3 out of 5.

Total care !

Enjoying all the fantastic elements of your hotel we have also remarked the small but very important hospitality by your personal. An english lady became some health problems with the swimming pool and was transported to the hospital by ambulance very quickly. Her concerned kids (approx. 10 and 11 years old) were treated so good by all the specialised personal like doctor, hostess and swimming pool manager that it looks it was for them a pity that they were also brought to the hospital by taxi. Unbelievable good work !

Best Hotel I have stayed in

from A TripAdvisor Member
One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were very big and the view I had was stunning, especially at night. It looked directly out at the Twin Towers and over the city. The hotel is extremely clean and the staff extremely friendly. The food in the resturants was Delicious, especially the buffet. The selection of food at the buffet was huge and very reasonable priced.

The hotel is extremely well located. Directly across from the tourist office where tours can be booked and also got from. The KLCC and twin towers only ten minute walk away as is the KL Tower and many bars & other resturants.

In my opinion there isn't a nicer or more centrally located hotel in Kuala Lumpur to stay in 5*.

I could live there forever!

We stayed in The Renaissance New world wing last week, and it really exceeded my expectations. The whole place was unbeleivably clean and looks fantastic. The pool is amazing at night, it is the perfect temparature, you can swim up to the bar, there are pretty lights in the palm trees, and the backdrop is the amazing sky scapers.
Our room had a perfect view of both the KL tower and the Petrona Twin towers, also the pretty gardens opposite.
The thing that i loved most was the wonderful staff. I have never before felt so well looked after and respected.
The breakfast was amazing! It caters for everyone, the standard english breakfasts, then chinese dim sum, indian curries, smoked meats and fish and unusual cheeses, 6 different kinds of juice... even omlettes made to order infront of you!
there are a million other good things i could say about this hotel if there was time.... I would reccomend it to anyone and will definatley stay there when i next go to kuala lumpur.

This hotel was fantastic, we have just been round the world and stayed in a range of accommodation, this was by far the best (hilton dubai watch out!) We upgraded for just 5GBP more and was given a room high up the building with fantastic views of the Petronas Towers. The concierge, gym, restaurant and everything was fantastic, the staff were friendly and helpful and there were no hidden charges as we found with so many places! we would definitely stay there again, location great too.

Great central hotel for excellent rate

We had 3 nights in the New World wing of the hotel. It is definitely a 4 star. Very good service and nice rooms. The pool is fantastic and huge on the 4th floor. We walked everywhere from the hotel or caught the monorail which was very good. On checkin we were given a smoking room even thou we werent asked our preference. I asked if we could be changed to nonsmoking which the superivsor happily did for us. Breakfast was fantastic with food for 1000's. A great value hotel and we would stay here again

Fantastic hotel!

I stayed at this hotel after a three month backpacking tour, and was astounded that this hotel was within my backpacker's budget!

The hotel staff were extremely helpful polite and respectful. The hotel room was large, with a large bed and excellent in- room facilities. The room was kept spotless throughout my stay, and the view from my room was of the Petronas towers and really was awesome.

There are a few restaraunts in the hotel, and I must say the food was excellent - beautifully cooked, and well presented. The hotel offers room service with a selection of some of the dishes served in the restaraunts, but I found that if I went down to the restaraunt there was a far more expansive menu. However, the room service was in itself a lovely experience; drinking wine, eating a lovely meal, with a spectacular view!

I found the shopping facilities in the nearby Petronas towers really excellent. It is possible to get a free ticket to go up to the viewing platform of the towers, and to get one of the tickets, I would advise you to get to the ticket rooms at the base of the towers at about 9am, because there are only a limited number of tickets available each day. The view from up there is really great!

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel !

Great rooms, great views

from KualaLumpurTourist
The staff at the Renaissance New World were very helpful at all times. The room was large and very clean with a view of the Petronas twin towers.

There was a good variety of food both for breakfast and dinner. The 5 nights we had at this hotel, dinner was on a '2 for the price of 1' cost. which in AUD$ was about $22.00 for 2 people.

Across the street is the monorail station which you can take to Chinatown, BB plaza and Sentral (Great shopping). The half day city tour and the full day Malacca tour were both informative and interesting.

Just across the street from the hotel is the Malaysian Tourist Information Complex where you can book all tours and get all information on K.L. and other areas of Malaysia.

All in all, we found the local people very friendly and helpful and look forward to returning in the near future

An excellent 5* hotel with a very convenient location

from neilmadhvani
We stayed in the New World wing of the Renaissance Hotel for three nights and were very impressed. The hotel is in a very good location, just 1-2 minutes walk from the monorail at Bukit Nanas, and around 4-5 minutes walk from the PUTRA LRT station at Dang Wangi. Our rooms had a lovely view of the Petronas Twin Towers. As is generally the case with 5* hotels in Kuala Lumpur, the rooms were very large. The rooms in the New World wing are definitely old, though the standard of maintenance is quite good. We noticed a few problems with the air conditioning - i.e. it seemed too cold, even when setting it to 32C, but other than that, the rooms and bathrooms were in very good condition. A small suggestion for improvement would be to provide more mains sockets around the room - I found it difficult to find plug sockets for my laptop, camera charger and phone charger together.

The breakfast spread was excellent - definitely one of the best I have come across in Kuala Lumpur. An enormous selection was available from the buffet, with fresh authentic items like Roti Canai and various Malaysian curries on offer as well - cooked in front of you and served straight on to your plate. It was also pleasing to see a selection of vegetarian items that were clearly labelled. The vegetarian samosa and spring rolls were great!

The service was very good - we arrived quite early (around 8am) and one of our rooms was not ready yet, so we were provided with a temporary room to use in the meantime. We were then informed a few hours later that the room was ready, and moved efficiently over. We had a minor issue with the laundry service, in that one of the garments was not washed properly - however the matter was dealt with quickly, and the item was re-washed. When we checked out, we pointed out that this should not have been charged for at all, as it wasn't returned clean in the time promised - a refund was fairly promptly issued.

All in all, the Renaissance is an excellent choice whether travelling for business or pleasure. Within minutes you can be at the heart of KLCC, visiting the Petronas Twin Towers or browsing the fashionable Suria KLCC mall. It's also very easy to get to the popular Bukit Bintang area with malls such as Imbi Plaza, Low Yat, Sungei Wang and Berjaya Times Square - just a few stops away by monorail.

Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur

KL Hop on Hop off bus Stop No 1 is in front of the Tourist Centre less than 100 m from the Renessainse Hotel, takes you to all tourist attractions you possibly want to see. Cheap and airconditioned. Ticket is valid for 24 hours. Timetable is not really strict, but if you are on holiday, who cares!

Bargain!! Cabbies here are blood suckers!!! They tend to bully tourist who can't speak malay and will charge a flat rate of at least 3 to 4 times more than what it will be if they run the meter!!! Generally cab fare here shouldn't go more than RM10 moving around KL...but cabbies tend to charge RM30 for tourist!!! So bargain your way around!!!

Take care if you do the nature walk at the bottom of the KL Tower Day time walk but I got butchered by mozzies.
