Refuse to Stay on first floor!
from MH1LondonSo if you want to sleep, refuse a room on the first floor front!
The perfect stay
from jimbojetsetHaving read these prior to us arriving i did have my doubts, these were soon squashed as we arrived on the day. Myself and my Girlfriend stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe room booked via the hotels own website. The price including brerakfast was a mere £118.
Upon arriving we were greeted by a friendly and helpful front desk who happily answered any questions we had. The front lobby is bright and airy and not at all dated like some dark and grotty reception areas i have seen in the past.
The room itself was fantastic. Spotlessly clean and huge in size with a reasonable ensuite attached. The king size bed was most comfortable therefore giving us 3 nights of well earned sleep.
Free mineral water was provided daily and within 10 minutes of entering the room a basket of fruit was brought to our room (very nice gesture).
The hotel has all the facilities you would expect, nice pool area ,which although a little on the small side is at least clean and attractive enough, bar and a couple of restaurants.
In terms of loaction the hotel could not be bettered. This was one of the principal reasons of us choosing the Melia and we were'nt let down. Directly opposite the hotel is the KL monorail which will zip you around the essential areas quickly and cheaply! If monorails aren't your thing then within 10 minutes walk is a shed load of restaurants, bars shopping and entertainment ptions.
Breakfast was included and has enough options for all tastes. Ok i have had better breakfasts before but i certainly would not hold this against what is a splendid hotel.
In terms of Customer service, location, room quality and faclilites, the Melia cannot at this price be beaten. Ignore any previous bad reviews and take my word for it. If i happen to swing by KL again, i will be without doubt be staying at the Melia.
Good Location,
from jules025Our room was big with computer and internet. But the toilet was bit old and the ventilation on the floor was too good, I can smell smoke. While we were there, there was a concert at the square opposite the hotel, we can hear in from the 10th floor, luckily it finished around 10.30pm.
The breakfast was so-so, not a lot of varieties. The reception wasn't very helpful, but he telephone operator next to the reception was very very helpful. She helped us to organised taxi to go to the Highland Casino, showed us how to get to places, give recommendation.
I would stay at this hotel again, the location of the hotel is too good.
enjoyed our stay
from HONEYMANGeelongOthers better
from EfJayWe'd booked a triple but found a double when we arrived - hastily rectified with a trundle bed. The standard room we booked was pretty crowded with the extra bed and while clean, looked a little worn and scruffy.
Location is good for shopping and transport around KL. We found crossing the road in front of the hotel a bit hazardous and it's probably 200m or so to the traffic lights.
It's a bit of a hike to interesting restuarants. Plenty of standard options nearby (worldwide chains) - would suit some, but not those coming to KL to enjoy the food and local culture. The pool was deserted every time we used it, but it was not a particularly inviting place to linger either.
The experience was saved by the lovely staff we met in the hotel's restaurant over breakfast each day. They generally were interested in ensuring we enjoyed our first visit to KL. We got some really good recommendations from them - the warmth of KL people in general was the enduring memory of our trip. So much so - I'm visiting Malaysia again this year for a longer holiday, but will be looking for a better hotel for similar or less money in KL
Not a four star hotel
from asiatrvlrLocation is very good.
from presztig2. Cleaniness is average. If you find that one of the things aren't satisfactory, just a call to the HOusekeeping will solve your problem. It doens't take them long time to change anything for you.
3. Service is good. One of the staff is quite impressive though she's just an operator. She will lead you the direction of where you want to go with precise headings. Anything that you need her help, she will be there for you. Reservation Officers are also quite helpful in a way that she will still look after me when i was about to take a taxi to the bus terminals whilst my luggage is still in their luggage room with the respective person in charge not available. She tried her best to help.
4. If you are talking about the decoration of the hotel, I would say that this hotel might not be as well furnished as you might expect. It's still at an acceptable level. It depends on individuals.
5. Only thing that is not good is there isn't any safety box in my room as the room that i was staying in belongs to the lowest category. Hopefull they can do something about it as i left a feedback for them before i check out the hotel.
Average over rated
from gozoneall had pluses and minuses but all were vastly superior to the old jaded faded over priced Melia
room I booked was the deluxe internet++ room
net constantly hung room was smelly and bathroom was small and no head height
worst aspect was the puddle pool with NO TOWElls!!!
in summary you can do a lot better for a few more bucks
location is good but once youve done Times Square...
bad impression
from kit1234An acceptable and convenient mid-rang hotel
from tookayThe Melia is an acceptable mid-range hotel with comfortable and clean rooms. I chose the Deluxe room, which included free internet. There were a lot of problems with the internet dropping out which required multiple calls to the front desk so that they could "reset something", but that was a minor problem.
There was certainly no shortage of aircon. My thermostat was set at 18 degrees and it was absolutely freezing. Fortunately after shivering for a while in bed, I was able to pry off the thermostat cover (which was not meant tro be use adjustable) and set it to a more reasonable 24 degrees. Perhaps the Melia could use some advice on energy savings and guest comfort with regard to the aircon?
Everything else worked in the room. The television seemed sort of small and cheap and there were not many cable channels, but then I was there on a sort business trip. This might be a consideration for someone travelling with kinds, however.
The bathroom was clean and average with an abundant selection of ammenities. And one of my personal priorities: the shower was excellent. It was not a sad, water saving, slow drizzle of a shower...it was a full ahead, high pressure, lots of water shower with a very nice shower head!
One complaint, which of course is not the fault of the hotel:
I was on the 10th floor facing the Times Square shopping mall, whose stark face completely fills the room's window. Not that the view (or total lack thereof) is a big issue; however, the combination of being in sort of a building canyon with the very busy street below made my room quite noisy. The sound of loud motorcycles and traffic persisted all night. If you book at the Melia, request a room in the wing that does not face the street and the Times Square shopping mall.
Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur
petronas towers To visit the sky bridge you need to gain a ticket first (It is free). So get up early and be in the queue out side the ticket office before 7am, located one floor below ground level. Staff will guide you to area. To get your ticket you have to nominate a time sugget earliest available as it is blocks of 15 minutes. Do not go late as only 3000 people are allowed up each day. Some of our group went twice and missed out because they were too late. Eight tickets are allowed per person in the queue, so a friend can go and make a booking for later in the day. The view is worth seeing
Roti Close to the Melia, behind LOT 10 shopping centre there are several local food shops/cafes/stalls - open 24/7. The Roti is amazing and costs very little. Eating on the street in the middle of the night.
Choosing to take a cab or subway (LRT) most of the time, if you travel with someone, it's actually worth it to take the cab as the cab fare often works out to be cheaper than the public transportation...but make sure the cab driver agree to charge by the meter and not a set rate, so you don't get ripped off!
