Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel
One of the bestfrom 6andy6
Booked a Executive Club room via Hilton website - good rates. In the intervening period I had cause to email hotel several times for various questions - answers always prompt.
Arrived at 8.30am - was checked in straight away. Upgraded myself for a reasonable price to a one bedroom suite (requested non smoking but was given smoking -non available at that time but there was no smell of smoke). Price was 665 ringgit plus tax per night.
Room - entered down short passage way. On left was toilet. Passage opened into Lounge with 4 seater dining room table, couch, 2 chairs , window full width of room, DVD player (can get list of free dvd's available by dialing help on phone), mini bar, sound system for tv and a HUGE plasma screen tv. Down another short passage which opened into a small round vestible off which was a desk and computer plug in connection (broadbnd via ethernet) set against another window, nice sized walk in wardrobe (phoned for more wood hangers and promptly bought up), a walk in cupboard to store suitcases and hidden behind wall another cupbaord set in the panels containing more storage space and a safe that took a laptop.
Another short passage way opened on bedroom with huge window and another HUGE plasma tv. Could operate lights from bedside including a "Do Not Disturbe" sign on front door. Bathroom open into bedroom was hug with separate bath, twin sinks, large mirro with a shaving mirro set in, a small plasma tv in mirror, separate shower with 2 shower heads, a fold down seat in shower for older or disabled people and a separate toilet (with a heated seat). Bathroom could be shut off from bedroom with huge sliding frosted glass doors for privacy.
Club Lounge on 33rd floor great. Breakfast was full buffet seat up, juices, cereals, fresh fruit, danishes, donuts, muffins, a series of hot foods both asian and western in equal portion (some mornings had roast lamb chops). A inrfoom chef cooked eggs any style, porridge, waffles, pancakes or toast for you. Waiter service bough freshly squeezed orange juice or coffees/lattes/ capachinos.
Club lounge - all day soft drinks, juices, coffee/tea. Permanetly set up were jars of smarties/M&M's, marshmellows, biscuits/cookies and fruit to help yourself. At around 1pm, sandwichs on trays offered with some sliced fruit, a cake of the day and scones/cream and jam. These were replenished.
At 5pm - basic spirits, beers, soft drinks etc offered until 7.30pm. Food was offered from 5pm until 9pmand included enough to avoid buying dinner. Sandwichs again, hot foods (mini lamb chops, asina dishes, crab, fish slices), Japanese hand rolls and sushi, cold soups, cheese platter, a tray of beautiful hand made chcolates and truffles, about six xhoices of small deserts in ramikins. This was continually replenished.
There are 2 computers in the club room for free access. Wireless (Wifi) access was free and unlimited in the Club Room for Executive floor guests (oculd not pick up in hotel room as tried) - a 50% reduction applied for club room guests if ethernet access used in room of normal rates. Also included for Club Level guests were complimentary laundry and pressing (excluding dry cleaning) of 4 pieces per day. Breaksfast was available from 6am - 10am (11am weekends). The lounge was open until 11pm at nigth for soift drinks/ coffee etc.
Staff thoughout hotel were great - always welcomed you arriving and leaving - including receiption staff etc. Hotel pool is one of the best I have seen - lagoon style and shared with the Le Meridian next door but never overly crowded. With a pool slide and outdoor cafe. Room service prices very reasonable for 5star hotel standards - a meal for 2 cost me less than AUD$35 or around 13 pounds.
Hotel is opposite KL Sental station - direct express train from airport for 35 ringitts. You can also if flying Malaysian Airline or Cathy Pacific check in at the station (they have check in counters like the airport) and receive your boarding passes and not see oyur luggage until its destination - recommended as when we got to KL airport we checked the check in areas and it was like a dogs breakfast with queues. At the station there was only one other before us.
It is also the terminus for the LRT line to KLCC shopping centre (Petronas Towers) and a 5 minute walk form monorail for Bukit BIntang shopping area. We actual found it a very well located hotel although out of the normal areas because of transport connections. Also views are not impeded by other buildings as it is across from the Lakes Gardens.
Overall, service was great - could not fault. Definately on of the best Hiltons I hvae stayed in (and the Hilton Dubai Creek was close behind).
3 problems I could see and these are minor:
1. Lounge singers were too loud - echoed through the entire cafe/lounge/receiption area- louder is not better.
2.Water pressure in showers was not fantastic - okay but I like a bit more force when showering.
3.Every staff member was great with their English skills - except the people that answered the "Magic line" phone - Hiltons version of "we can do everything" was funnily enough not overly competent in English which to me would be a important thing given the 5 star status of hotel. However we always got what we needed and as I have said all staff were more than prompt in the servie they gave - sometimes to much attention -lol.
Fantastic Hotelfrom pertboy
Very friendly and courteous staff who are on hand to help with any query or problem (c.f. the magic number you can call with any question or problem - and I mean any query! 'I see here we can have a dvd player, goldfish, mobile phone and ps2 for our stay..could we have them please? ...it will be my pleasure sir' - 10 minutes later a ps2, dvd player, mobile phone and 2 goldfish arrive..fantastic!)
Rooms are not overly large, but have been designed fantastically to fit in a good sized and well equipped bathroom (separate shower and bath, good sink with tv in the mirror and a bidday I could happily spend all day on ;-) ). Beds are large and rooms have 42inch plasma screens
Executive lounge has fantastic views of the city, great finger food and drinks and complimentary internet access (if you can get the kids off the terminals that is)
Location wise, it's a trade off. It's right off the KLIA from the airport and you can get a free hilton minivan from the station to the hotel (1minute journey) or walk through the station and across the road to the hotel (3 minute walk). However, it's not in the city centre. But being so close to the station, monorail and taxis that's not a real problem. It's close to Bangsar (happenning place for eats and drinks and partying) and all the malls. Travelling at night or day is not a problem and is cheap whatever transport you take
Fantastic place all in all
Amazing Hiltonfrom heewee
One of the best hotels, ever...from pturquoise
Ultra design, comfortable room, huge bathroom, flat screen, you can play videogames (just order a PS2, for free), the executive lounge at the top of the hotel serves deluxe complimentary European food at any time of the day
Gold and above Hilton Honors get even better special treatment
Again...one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at
t recommend it highly enough - brilliant!from London-T
The rooms were excellent, massive windows overlooking Kuala Lumpur, lovely bathrooms with LCD TVs in them, massive plasma, big comfortable bed, all new modern design, nice pool on 10th floor... what more can you ask? Actually you can ask for an amazing breakfast, and we got one (freshly cooked waffles and pancakes, choice of juices, decent tea/coffee, great selection of fruit) - opt to get it included if you can.
The best bit was that we booked it over the internet a couple of nights beforehand and whilst in Malaysia and got the rooms for £50 ($75) equivalent a night, although this was predominantly because it was a weekend. In the UK that sort of money would only just about get you into motorway service station acommodation (think poor quality roadside motels US readers). The room would have been worth double to the cost (so if it's gone up then still consider going!), and really made the end of our holiday. I'm thinking of going back to Malaysia purely to go back to the hotel!
Great Place, Just a Few Rough Edgesfrom Gemakan
Used the executive floor lounge. Maybe week-ends are not representative, but all a bit chaotic. A sign refers to a family-friendly policy for the lounge, and it did resemble a children's tea party throughout Saturday late afternoon and evening, with kids racing around, shouting, etc. The two internet terminals were permanently occupied by kids playing computer games. Not the place to be if you want to relax, read a book or have a quiet drink.
Amazed at the energy and patience of the staff in the lounge, coping with what was sometimes a frantic, crowded and noisy environment. Overall good team service mentality of the staff across the hotel.
Top marks for the room service food - good quality, and the hot main course actually served hot (very rare for room service in hotels).
No key access control in the lifts at all (management say they're installing a system) but some visible security at the main entrance. Expected more obvious security, especially for access to the guest room floors.
Unsurpassed Excellence!!from A TripAdvisor Member
From the minut we arrived we were escorted from our car straight to check in and then upto our suite (we were upgraded!). Our bags somehow got to our room before us. We then went to the executive lounge that was serving an all day buffet of hot and cold dishes, desserts, handmade chocs, drinks and cocktails.
Everywhere we went, all the staff knew our names, they even reserved us a table at their Zeta bar that evening.
Our room was fantastic, and in the evening a large platter of handmade chocs were left in our room with a welcome message from the hotel.
Breakfast was probably the biggest spread I have ever seen, with meals from all over the world...probably a little too big a spread.
Our entire stay was perfect, we didn't want to leave at the end of it.
They even have a magic button on the phone which you can call and ask for anything.....I mean ANYTHING!!
We will definitely come back
Surely Nice but Not my Top Choicefrom usadan
I had a reservation for a non-smoking room (Hilton Gold Member). They said they didn't have a non-smoking room on the executive floor but said the smoking rooms are not smokey. I tried it. It wasn't true. They moved me to a regular floor non-smoking room.
The rooms have a unique layout where the bathroom wall opens across the bed to the window. Its a secure way to keep your eye on house guests when you are showering. Its a bit non-traditional though but works out just fine. Overall tone and decor of rooms is nice.
I was a bit shocked to see the in-room wired internet costs US$17/Day. That's 1/3 the cost of the room. On my next trip I stayed at Le Meridien next door which had included internet at the same room price and has more traditionally designed rooms.
The 42" flat panel tv is NOT a feature to me. It is a way to get away with designing narrower rooms. Plus the wide screen format stretches the more common 4:3 signals and gives you this oddly distorted image at the edge of the screen and makes you a bit queezy watching it if you notice it.
Meanwhile, the location is nice. Not alot of things in the very immediate area but with the station just below, it is well connected to the city and the airport. There are less nice but cheaper fix-priced taxis available at the station (you pay inside the station at a desk). Also has Starbucks, KFC, McDonald's, etc. when you just want a cheap bite to eat.
Best hotel in KLfrom rojaan1
The room is spacious, the bathroom has a big bath and a rain shower, the bed is extremely comfortable. This is the best Hilton I have ever stayed in.The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
I would definitely stay here again.
A great hotelfrom chrisb2
We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a suite, but regardless, this is a top of the range hotel at a (relatively) small price. It has been put together with thought and imagination. Yes, its a 10 minute train ride into the city centre, but that is nothing compared to the additional luxury you get.
Everything has been thought of and it rates as the best hotel I have stayed in.
Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur
Airport Run Take the train from the international airport. EZ to do. Take the Air Asia bus to airport for domestic travel. EZ to do.
Don't bother leaving the city centre. Don't bother going to see things around the vicinity of KL, especially the Hindu Temple. KL itself hassome interesting culture (China Town, Little India,...) and great shopping, but if you want to get out of KL, I think you'd be better off flying to a beach.
TRaffic jams Be careful when you travel in the day - the roads in the centre do gridlock. You need patience.
