Dorsett Regency is next door to The Ritz Carlton (about 30 seconds walk). It is a small-ish hotel but it was a nice hotel. The last time I passed by the hotel (Feb 2005), I saw some stalls selling cds, cheap t-shirts etc just outside the hotel. It's quite unfortunate since it was a decent hotel. The location is good, only a few minutes walk to the shopping area Bukit Bintang/Sungai Wang for cheap bargains. This hotel is also quite close to a chinatown.

just had a week in kl, at Dorsett Regency, found the hotel staff very friendly and efficient, breakfast good,seafood buffet was fine with large array of food , for all tastes if not into seafood but i am so i enjoyed it , beers were very cold , and it was cheap ,35rm so we couldn't complain, , hotels in good location a short walk from main drag, rooms were clean and neat wouldn't fault the hotel at all, one good thing arriving at 7 in the morning, our rooms were ready so we didn't have to wait till 2 to check in (try that in the US), China town was up and down as the police were in force so stalls you saw an hour before had suddenly changed from selling shoes perfume, watches, movies to petronas tea towels very quickly,, all in alll great trip, food, beer , shopping and people

You can do better, Dorsett Regency KL

Stayed at the Dorsett regency for the first time and feel that they can definitely improve on certain areas.

It is a 4 star hotel with all the essentials for a 4 stars hotel such as a nice marble bath room, reasonably clean bedroom, as well as a good and convenient location with free parking for guests.

We requested for an early check in and an adjoining room. Not only were we unable to check in at 1.30pm, by the time we finished our lunch at 2.30, we were told abruptly by the not very friendly receptionist to take a seat. As for our adjoining room, we were not alloted one either.

Upon checking in, I realised that both the rooms have lights not working. The maintenance personnel got it fixed quickly. Then I discovered that our safe was not working, neither were we able to call from room to room following the instruction on the phone. We later were told by the operator that we had to dial '0' instead of '8' as printed on the phone.

The next morning, we were awaken by strange sound which we initailly thought was a broken aircon. Later the sound became louder and ongoing. We called the house keeping and waited, the sound did not cease. When I called again, they told me they were fixing the problem which seemed to be cross the board, I felt that they should have informed us instead of letting us wait in vain for the maintenance personnel to come by.

This is a hotel with potential to do better, they just have to put more effort in trainning the staffs and increasing the maintenance of the premises.

Would definitely stay there again!

We have just returned from a trip to Malaysia and whilst staying in Kuala Lumpur we had accommodation at the Dorsett Hotel.

I had read conflicting reports on this hotel before we left - however we found it really good. It is ageing - however the location, lovely pool, meals and service were absolutely fabulous. Our room was quite large with a view looking towards the Petronis Towers.

It is located in the golden triangle i.e. Bintang Walk area. We crossed the street, took a short cut through the Ritz Carlton hotel - which connects through to Bintang Walk. This is good especially when the heat can be so intense, you can walk through the hotels in air conditioning to Bintang Walk.

Found the area very safe to walk, either day or night. The monorail is a good way to get around the city. We boarded it near Times Square Hotel and rode it from one end to the other. Gives a good oversight.

Food, travel and accommodation are very very cheap, but if you want to buy other things i.e. cameras, ipods etc - we can get better buys back in Australia. We also went to Penang after Kuala Lumpur and found the same there - buy back home!

If we went back to Kuala Lumpur - we would definitely stay at the Dorsett again - especially for its location.

Good Value for Money

We, two sisters had visited Malaysia for a vacation and had put up at Dorsett Regency, Kuala Lumpur for 3 nights. The lobby is pretty small as compared to the size of the hotel. But their service was good; staff was very helpful especially the travel desk manager was a wonderful soul. The breakfast was excellent with so much of variety - I don't think it could have been better. My room was on the 16th Floor and the view from there was amazing. Most importantly this hotel is very strategically located for all those who love shopping cause Bukit Bintang the street where it stands is Shoppers paradise with many big shopping malls being just 5 to 10 mins walk from the hotel. The mono rail station is also 5 mins walk from the hotel.

On the whole we had a very pleasant stay at Dorsett Regency and would love to stay there again.

Would definitely suggest this hotel to other travelers with medium budgets.

The dorsett has friendly staff & the breakfast is excellent. obviously the people who complain about the breakfast havent been to Europe where you pay $25 for continental breakfast of ceral & toast!!! I have to admit the hotel is a bit run down. Its a very popular hotel and i think its had a few too many people stay here so it does need a make over. Our floor did smell a bit funky but the rooms were neat & tidy. I was twin sharing with a friend and we both got double beds!!!! Overall good location but rooms could do with renos! If you want an excellent hotel, stay at the Grand Plaza Park Royal.. bit more expensive though. 4.5 star!!!!!! Another cheapy is the Hotel Capitol. People are choosing to stay here over the Dorsett these days.

t fault the Dorsett

I have been to the Dorsett Regency twice now and find the review on here some anyway hard to believe, my partner and i loved the Dorsett, we are used to 5 star accomodation and opted to save some money in KL and go all out in Europe. The hotel was way above our expectations and well worth the money, you must remember you arent paying for 5 star but it isnt shy of it either. This hotel was great the breakfast was great ranged from asian, malay, western, they made us omlettes to our liking, i thought this was fantastic. We paid almost 100 dollars extra the time before to stay in another hotel and could not tell the difference. Location is great!!! Im not sure about the cleaning comment as our room was cleaned wonderfully every single day.

VALUE FOR MONEY HOTEL

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Dorsett Regency Hotel in KL and we have never experienced such a pleasant and friendly hotel.

Right from check-in the staff treated us as long lost friends and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable.

On arrival we accepted the offer of an upgrade to a Junior Suite for a mere $36.00 (Australian)per night which was well worth it for the quality and size of the suite. It was located on the 26th Floor with views of the Petronas Twin Towers and other highlights of KL.

The suite comprised a large bedroom with King-size bed, computer access and study desk, comfortable lounge area and very large bathroom.

The main restaurant "Checkers" catered for every nationality at breakfast and served a large range of gourmet meals for lunch and dinner. On the last night we took delight in sampling the "International Buffet" which was supurb and again the staff ensured that we were well fed and watered. The cost of the buffet was only RM49, about $20.00 and worth every cent of it.

The hotel is located near the main tourist areas of Jalan Bukit Bintang and within easy walking distance of the numerous shopping centres that abound in KL (Times Square, Starhill, Lot 10 and so on).

The pool area was on the 4th level and was a quiet place to relax and enjoy the afternoon (when not shopping or eating).

All in all I would thoroughly recommend the hotel to those seeking quality at a relatively inexpensive price. Great for families as they have inter-connecting rooms.

Would Stay Again

Ended up at this hotel after pool closed at another hotel. Rooms and hotel were better than expected, the pool was undercover which was great as we didn't have to worry about suncream and kids getting burnt. Breakfast buffet was not good and I only had toast and coffee each morning. About a 10-15 minute walk to shopping plazas. Would stay here again but not pay for breakfast.

My wife, son and I stayed at this hotel for New Year's. We selected the hotel based on reviews on Tripadvisor, which seemed to indicate a good value for money hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel choice was poor. The rooms, while large in size, are old and shabbily maintained. Housekeeping is atrocious-- apparently, the cleaners do not have keys to the rooms, so if you put up a "Please clean my room" sign, it will just remain there! You need to call housekeeping and get the room cleaned--ridiculous! While breakfast is part of the package, you need to first sign a bill which has the charge on it, and then get a credit against that. Why such a complicated process for something so simple? As we were staying over the New Year's weekend, the gala dinner was part of the package (we had already paid for this at the time of booking). However, no reservation had been made in the restaurant for us, and we spent an hour getting this sorted out. All in all, a terrible experience and would strongly advise travellers to stay any place else but the Dorsett.

Not very good at all

Spent 4 nights there in October, and whilst the staff were always helpful and obliging, the hotel was not worth is current star rating. The room A/C was nosiy and did not even have a bar fridge. The hotel smelt and generally was in average to poor state of maintenance. The only good feature was the hotels location to shopping and night life.
The Hotel breakfasts whilst reasonably extensive in choice was of low quality and permitted smokers to light up near and around food. All in all, Yuck !!! spend a few extra dollars and get something better, like next door. Carlton Ritz ???

great place to shop i think the most fun place to shop was chinatown,its a hassel bargaining but fun at the same time,be careful when you buy dvds they say 10 rm but you can get them for 7 rm,be care ful to check everycover,sometimes they cheat you there will be a diffrent movie inside,you get fantastic fake watches like rolex,omega for a great price,eeven the leather stuff is pretty good,overall great place for bargains,could get very croweded in the evenings,please keep your money tucked in safely.

Dinner at KL Tower - unbelievable Dont miss dinner in the revolving restaurant in KL tower ( much higher than Petronas skybridge ) - the view is awesome, food is great and service excellent. Cost with drinks is around Aus$60 pp.

Shopping and leisure Times square shopping centre is amazing and huge, it has an indoor rollercoaster and amusement park inside and an Imax Cinema and regular cinema
