Historical Traveller Reviews of Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Overall Experience

from vinvin
I got my room from Asiarooms.com @ S$102 per room per night (Superior Room with ABF).

The outlook of the building looks a bit old and I guess it should not be painted in organe or yellow as the colors make the while building looks old.

The lobby is nice and big. I managed to check in within 3 mins and I got those traditional key and not card key. Maybe they should upgrade to card key which is better.

We got a non smoking room as I requested. Now, non smoking rooms are on higher floors than those smoking room. Level 7, 8 & 9 are non smoking and 10 and above are executive & club rooms. I got the 9 floor and had a good view of the Twin Tower.

Our room was good and big enough. The toliet was up to standard.

The breakfast was good enough and we always had second helping every morning.

Room service was good and they cleaned up the room fats and neat.

Overall it is a good hotel & good location. I dun think it is as bad as what others said.

Go and try it =)

Perfect if you want a clean comfy room in a hotel with large lobby.

This is a very adequate hotel - clean, spacious rooms with big king sized bed and reasonably sized bathroom. We paid $AU60/night in November 05 and thought for that price it's a pretty good hotel (not that we have anything to compare it with). The lobby is large, clean and marbled but the decor is a bit dated (its still very nice and kind of grand but its no designer grade). I only used room service once or twice and didnt have any issues with it. We didnt make use of any facilities such as pool/gym so cant really comment on that. The only thing that was a problem was the location from the Golden Triangle area - there is no real way of getting there by public transport although cabs to the area only costed less than RM10. It is however a 5 min or less stroll to the twin towers & the shopping centre housed by it. If you're not looking for rip-off dvd's and are after a Wester-style shopping experience (ie, well-spaced out, well lit shops as opposed to interwining lanes pushing and shoving through crowds), the shopping centre housed within the twin towers is fantastic.

Overall, I was happy with the hotel room although I didnt think it was posh or stylish, it was very clean and comfortable. The major drawback is the distance from Golden Triangle and the night-life around that area. Also, it is in an awkward price range - in KL, you could pay AU$80/night (AU$20 more) and stay in a hotel that is far better decorated and located smack bang in the middle of Golden Triangle. However, AU$20 could also feed a hungry person on a very balanced hawker diet for the whole day!!

Shabby, basic rooms

from GrayBoar
We stayed in this hotel for 2 night in February and would not choose to stay there again. Despite reading reviews about 'posh, comfy rooms', we were very disappointed when we saw our room. The room was shabby with very basic furniture. The staff on reception were either unwilling to help or had very little knowledge about Kuala Lumpur. Th breakfast was satisfactory but overall, thisis not at all what I would envisage a 4* hotel to be like.

good location , good room , a good choice

from AshDelhi
The hotel's main attraction is that its located close to KL twin towers, it is definately an advantage , but the location is approx 5 minute walk , & view of towers from room is not as dramatic as shown in hotel brochure , website .

all said & done the hotel has some positives .

1) Near KL tower .
2) Rooms are decent size , with tea coffee maker , , minibar . etc
3) Price of 200 Malaysian ( 90 Sing $) was not bad .

Negatives :

when some one uses flush in next door room you can hear it clear & loud in your room , -- disaster if it happens in middle of night -- hotel guys cant understand the problem / cant do anything about it even when reported. -- in 2 night stay first night was bad because of noise from flush , second night the guy did not go to toilet after 22.00 hrs & we woke him up at 0600 by going to toilet before him .

Breakfast spread is quite lavish , but with more to native soups , steam buns , noodle etc ,

if the hotel gets a fix on the toilet noise , we would not mind coming back to the hotel aain when in KL.

What a dump!

from Zanibar
The service is atrocious and they need a serious overhaul....not only in the decor department! Front desk service was the pits. Checking you in they were doing you a favor. I seriously dont know were they train these people...no smiling, chewing gum, curt, and plain rude. Well I gues you get what you pay for....

Expected better...

from Zahra_123
The only nice thing I have to say about it is the location, about 5mins walk from the Petronas Towers & KLCC. The rooms are very dark & dingy & decor is dated. We even had cockroaches in our room!! Customer service was poor as staff failed to reconfirm our plane tickets & didn't bother to tell us this. Breakfast was cold & service was poor. Don't believe how this hotel could be 4*.

Tops

from kiraywm
The good: Top service, clean, spacious, great location, great food
The bad: Hmm none really, except for the restaurant in the lobby had slow service and kept saying they were booked out when clearly it was 90% empty. Go to Mings Court on level 1 instead! great service, fantastic food. But breakfast in the lobby is better.

Very good !

from mazed
Cant understand the previous bad reviews as our stay here was really good..and considering location, value, food, service etc..really had no complaints at all. The staff were all very considerate and professional, the rooms were clean and in order. The TV was broken when I got in..called housekeeping and the TV was fixed within 5 minutes of my call. They dont provide a tootherbrush which is a little odd..but thats my only complaint. I ahve stayed at other hotels around and really wanted to be next to the Towers this time..and was worried given the poor reviews...and I was with a group that needed 3 rooms..but all of us agreed thats it s a good hotel! Nothing flash...but then , for the price what flash does one expect!

Corus Hotel Sucks!

from Kazikhalidmahmood
Location: good, very close to Petronas twin tower. But never make the same mistake, as there are many other hotels in the close vicinity of Petronas Towers.

Swimming Pool: it’s like a wasted pond.

Service: They do not know the 'S' of Service -

First, they sell most of their rooms to the travel agents; hence you will never get rooms directly.

Second, You can only book for 2 adults and 1 child per room and if you have 2 children, sorry you have to pay extra.

Third, Although you can book for 2 adult + 1 child, but they will only give you 2 breakfast coupons per room, so you pay extra for even the 1st child.

Fourth, i booked on line and called the hotel for the extra person, the person in charge confirmed that no extra charge as part of the same family, but hey, as you check in its a different ball game. Nobody knows the other.

Fifth, the breakfast restaurant is unfriendly and the food choice is primitive and seems not fresh.

Sixth, we booked for two suites with balcony. They have only one suite per floor like that. At the time of booking they confirmed two suites with balcony on different floors. But surprised to find out that they used their judgement to change one suite to a non-balcony congested suite on the same floor as we are from the same family. Audacity!!

Seventh, very rigid and no flexibility.

Eighth, they don even know how to say sorry!

Ninth, TV doesn work.

Great location .

from ells32
On arrival during high season we asked for a view of the Petronas Towers , and that's what we got...amazing at night with all the lights on .
The room was in need of a refurb but the bed was extremely comfy and the bathroom was spotless .
No complaints from me , would definately return .

Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur

getting around it is nice to know the idea of HOP IN, HOP OFF bus that goes around the major touristy areas in and out of KL. The concept is you wait in a designated waiting area and once the bus arrives you hop on with a guide brochure, more or less you will have an idea where it will next stop and if you decided to go down there and look around, just hop off. busses arrives 30mins-1hr intervals depends on the traffic i think. So to go to your next destination just wait for the next bus. a day trip will cost you 35 ringgit and its unlimited ride from 8am-9pm last trip. enjoy your journey.

Taxis Remember to ask for meter or if not or can't, bargain for better rate!

Public tranportation: Kuala lumpur From the airport : i recommend to take taxi, because the price worthed, esp if u travell in 3-4 persons. It can bring you direct to your destination. You can also take a bus (skybus or aerobus) WITH ONLY 9 rm/PERSON. bus will take you to KL SENTRAL from which you can take LRT (METRO SUBWAY), buses, or taxi (buy a coupon first at taxi counter, near skybus stop at kl sentral station). Getting around :taxis in kuala lumpur dont use meter mostly, you can make a deal with driver FIRST, before you enter the taxi. Public transportation inner the city is uneffective, there are 2 LRT track (owned by different company) and 1 monorail. They dont cover the city, so sometimes you have to walk a lot to go to nearest LRT station. You can also take a bus from the bus shuttle. KL sentarl station is the center of every public transportation in kuala lumpur. The ticket machine of LRT sometimes dont work well, if you lose money on it, just report it to the ticket counter, they will give you the ticket.
