Historical Traveller Reviews of Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Great location but rundown and expensive
from KEMerkThe lobby is spectacular but the rooms are looking a bit shabby. However the rooms are quite comfortable and a safe in provided in the room (essential in KL).
There are two breakfast restaurants. The Melting Pot is included in some packages and it is a top breakfast buffet with chefs to prepare fresh omeletes etc. and a huge choice of western and asian breakfast. I believe the other restaurant is less impressive but presumably means lower room rates.
Staff were always helpful.
Expensive for KL but the location and breakfast might make it worthwhile.
Basic Clean
from Global_traveller2000The room is spacious, as you enter there is a large working desk and Free internet access that came out from the drawer next to the working desk, TV, CD player, radio, large king size-bed. The room was kept very clean and tidy, minimum decor, mostly brown, pastel, warm and soft tones. There is a lounge car in the middle of the room, free mineral water, ad the basic minibar. Before the bathrooms are the cupboards, ironing boards and luggage area. The bathroom is large, one side the bathtub and the sink, the other the shower, bathroom was dimly lilted, sort of a gloomy grey/blue light. I can't complain about the size of the rooms and facilities for the price paid, but the view really disappointed me. As I moved the curtains I could only see the MRT (monorail) line right outside, the main road and some trees. Don't expect to see the KL tower behind the trees. I realised that evening that the shower was not working. I called the reception and a friendly handyman came within minutes to fix the problem, can't complain about the service too.
Breakfast the next morning, food selection is good, but gets emptied very fast. Usual crowd of local Malaysians and their families, once a glimpse of some Americans. I found the Melting Pot Cafe rather crowded for my taste, went upstairs and ordered room service instead. Prices for room service was expensive, unless you order the Malaysian breakfast. The good thing is that the Hard Rock Cafe is just next to the hotel lobby, I could pop in there and have a burger anytime. the hotels strategic location was also a plus, it is only a minute walk away from the basement car park and you will find rows of restaurants, bars, the KL Twin towers, shopping and etc.
Check out was fast and swift, a lovely staff accompanied me to the limousine stand and I got my free airport transfer to KLIA. Problem : It was 5pm on a Wednesday and it was pouring. We had to wait for 15 minutes before the car managed to pull out of the hotel car park into the main road. I underestimated the time needed to get from there to the airport by road. But luckily, the driver knew some shortcuts around town, it took us 1 hour to get on the highway.
The Concorde seems neutral to me, good location, large rooms, family orientated and good prices. Not a bad choice for a short family holiday or a stopover. But if you are looking forward to a honedeymoon, luxury spa day or a treat for loved ones, the hotel falls behind the rest of the luxury hotels surrounding it
Satisfactory for a short stay
from PamperedtravellerIt's not too bad for a short stay and rather convenient in that the nearest LRT is a short walk away and if not for the scorching heat, about 15 mins walk to the KLCC.
The internet didn't work in our room so they offered us another room a few doors away (same floor). Everything was good.
We had a premier room which is a good size for us. There is a vanity and walk-in wardrobe at the entry to the bathroom. nice and clean, nothing to shout about.
We are ok about the hotel except for a few problems. The partitions between the rooms were quite thin and you could hear noises from next door. Our neighbouring room was really rowdy. As it turned out, some college kids were having a mini party! My husband went next door to complain to which they apologised and turned down their volume.
My dining experience at this hotel is not good. We tried the dinner buffet on the first night (adults and kid were starving) and that was a mess. I couldn't find anything good to say except that some of the cold dishes were no longer fresh like it had been recycled from some previous meal! The spread didn't look inviting. The selection was limited. The following night, we decided to dine at The Grill. Yes, it was very expensive but that's fine if level of service and food match the price. In my case, the food was divine, nice presentation (kudos to the chef) but service level from the staff was simply non-existent.
Our room came with breakfast at The Grill and that was quite nice. Eggs can be done any way you like and the staff service was far better than my experience at dinner.
We spent a fair amount of time at the poolside and there is a small children's pool. On the days we were there, the pool was packed with local families. I felt this was strange because some of them appear not to be hotel guests.
If you don't wish to venture out, Hard Rock Cafe is right next door to the Concorde and their service rocks. I ate there twice with my son.
All in all, the staff were helpful, prompt and they didn't hesitate to advise on directions.
Nice location but old and rundown hotel, lobby deceiving!
from Ang_26Beatiful lobby, greeted by poor english speaking reception and took 1/2 hour to get checked in. Am sure the premier wing which is at the fron tof the property is lovely , however the superior rooms are in the back wing over looking a construction site (even though I had requested views of the towers) The floor smelt like cigarettes (obviously the whole hotel you can smoke in as there were ashtrays everywhere!)
The room was moderate sized, the bathroom tiny with a shower over the bath made for a midget and the plug did not work so you could not have a bath. The towel rail was honging off the wall and one down light was not working. The bed was a queen and firm with a nice feather doona. Glad we only had 2 nights here.
The brekki was reasonable and was in a different room each morning of our stay. We also had the buffet dinner with seafood on one night and this was pleasant. We also took advantage of the on site Hard Rock restaurant.
Overall a nice location but need some serios work to the older superior/standard wing.
graet hotel - warm and friendly
from 11monPremier room (you book in via a private area where you can sit and have a refreshing drink whilst doing the paperwork etc)
Warm and friendly atmosphere, good breakfast at 'Spices restaurant' , best bar in town for live music and atmosphere...next door to the Hard Rock Cafe....minute walk to monorail and only 2 stops to bukit Bintang, Sungei Wang plaza etc...
Will stay again....often !

Cameras & Electronic Goods You can find good deals on some models (very few though) especially in Sungei Wang (always ask for a discount), but do not expect great savings from your homeplace!
KLCC Gardens If you're tavelling with children and they need to let off steam the gardens of the KLCC (Petronas Towers) are worth and hour or two - there is a large clean paddling pool and lots of park toys form them to play on.
Discriminatory Practices by Hotel Staff Since Malaysia do not have an Anti-Discriminatory Law, anyone who are gay, lesbian, tranny, or look like one will be denied service and thrown out. Check with friends who have been there before which hotels are more accommodative.
