After much research on the Internet, we decided on Hotel Capitol but to realise those photos can be deceiving. Upon checking in, we had double confirmed with the frontdesk staff that the room they delegate to us had Doublebed however after we went into the room then we discovered it is Twin size bed. We ran down to the frontdesk and had a talked with the Manager on duty but she simply pushed it to one of the frontdesk staff. Simply Irresponsible! We argued for around 20mins before they decided to switch room for us. This time round, we were been switched to a more spacious room but to our disgust there are tiny cockroaches crawling around in the wardrobe and the "boiling" kettle will not stop boiling the water unless you switch off the main switch. We were also disappointed with the bathroom because it is so small, toilet bowl is dirty, there is no bathtub and the shower-room's door can never be close. The bed is creeking for the whole night as we toss and turn and the blanket had a foul smell. Well.... if you are not extremely hungry, I would suggest you not going for the Buffet Breakfast because there are not much varieties and most of the food are overcooked. eg. Ham and Waffle are too hard to be chew, Omelette turn out to be pan-fried egg, Bee Hoon are so hard that as if you are chewing onto a string.....etc. Talking about the location, I would say it is definitely worth staying because "Sungei Wang" & "BB Plaza" is directly opposite and 15mins walking distance to Berjaya Times Square.

Great, central location near lots of shopping!

from BlackBeauty77
Great location but be prepared to stay awake until around 1am-2am on Fri/Sat nights while the band plays out it's set on the streets/roofs below.

Breakfast was very average but go out and explore neighbouring streets for great food at cheap prices. By night, be sure to check out Jalan Alor, about a 1 minute walk, for cheap and tasty hawker food.

Literally across the road from BB Plaza, Imbi Plaza as well as the other large ones in Bukit Bintang.

Great location

We really liked this hotel for convenience. The rooms were spacious and it was in a great location for the shops and a short walk away (10 minutes) from the bus terminal. It was also really cheap! Breakfast was not included but as it is right int he middle of a shopping area, it is easy to grab something to eat at anytime of the day. It is also very near to the monorail.

Great Location and value for money

I initially booked the Capitol because of the location and we were not disappointed, within walking distance of all the action, shopping, sights, dining etc etc. The hotel may not have 5 star luxuries but it truly represents value for money, is well kept and very clean and the bathroom is fab! We spent 2 nights at this hotel would definitely recommend it to others.

Good shopping location

A very delayed review by me, I thought the room i secure, key card to get into room. I was a bit upset hotel had no swimming pool but I guess I didn't pay the world for room.
The location had plenty of shops around it and my room had a view of Petronas Towers that looked great at night with the lightening stiking it.

Fantastic bathroom

We were a bit nervous about booking this hotel as I have a terrible problem with bathrooms. This hotel exceeded my expectations, the rooms were a bit on the small size but hey you don't stay in the room all day. We had very clean towels and the bathroom was fantastic. The beds were very comfortable and air con was nice and cool and quiet. We had breakfast included in our booking and glad we did, the food was very very nice and lots of choice, staff were very friendly and attentive. If I had anything negative to add it would only be regarding the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways. I would definately stay at this hotel again. The staff were very quick with room service too. At the front desk area the staff were helpful and friendly. 100% recommended stay.

Stayed at the Capitol for 3 nights after reading some good reviews on tripadvisor. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed.

We arrived late due to a delayed flight from Thailand to KL. We waited 25 minutes to be acknowledged & check in as the one member of staff was on the phone. Eventually he checked us in, not particularly welcoming, but not particularly rude either - just rather neutral. We were shown to a room which was very dirty and tired looking with 2 twin beds (we requested a double) dirty walls, hardly any storage, a shower with no curtain or door and a pair of dirty underpants left hanging in the bathroom. I went downstairs to complain and was told that I should have requested a Queen bed if I wanted a double room - they said they should be able to move us tomorrow. Next day, had a horrible breakfast, very canteen style atmosphere - before leaving for sightseeing we explained to the receptionist that we were going to be moved to a new room and asked that our luggage be transported to the new room. We came back at 3pm to freshen up to discover the luggage still in the old room - in the end we moved it ourselves to the next floor up. We had also left some laundry for collection - this hadn't been collected, so it would be delayed until the following evening. In fact, the only thing the staff managed to do was to knock on the door to give us the dirty underpants that had been left in the old room by the previous guest!

The receptionist (on check in) also didn't tell us that there is a limit to the amount you can sign to your room - we had only clocked up about £50 by the end of our 2nd night & were
about to sign off a beer and cup of tea when we were told we had to pay cash as we had reached our limit - well WE HAD reached OUR limit!!! We called to speak to the manager - told her about our experience, to which she apologised and explained that at check in, we should have been informed about the limit to sign against your room number.

The new room was much much better, brighter, cleaner etc and we felt a little more relaxed. Our laundry turned up later the following evening - just as we were packing to leave the next
morning, we discovered that all of our clothes that had been sent to laundry at the hotel had red and pink water marks all over!!

All in all, I truly believe that we just got unlucky. This hotel is probably ok most of the time - but for us it was pretty poor - worst thing being the customer service. Having not stayed anywhere else in KL, I am not sure if the customer service is like this everywhere or not.........certainly book with caution. I would rather have spent an extra £10 per night for something much more reliable. Having your clothes ruined after a bad hotel experience is a kick in the teeth!!

Excellent place

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Best value for money. Very clean rooms and newly renovated toilets. excellent service. big sized rooms. Nice location. walking distance for major shopping centers. I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

Clean and compact city hotel

from eos26
This is the 3rd time we have stayed here. It is not luxurious by any means but for the price, Capitol hotel is hard to beat. You get a modern room with a fantastic bathroom and a great location just behind Jalan Bukit Bintang which is the main shopping street for KL. There are wonderful food options nearby including Jalan Alor food street and lots of hawker coffee shops just next to the hotel. There is also a food court called "BB park" on Jalan Bukit Bintang which is clean, cheap and delicious. For technophiles, go to Low Yat plaza next door which sells pdas, laptops etc. To go to Chinatown, you can walk (20 mins) or take a taxi. The taxis in KL don't seem to use meters which is really annoying. The government really needs to regulate this so it is more like Singapore or even Bali. It cost us about MYR$10 for taxis to Chinatown or twin towers from Capitol Hotel.

Don't be a cheapskate and pay a little extra for the deluxe rooms - they are located on higher floors and you can ask for rooms with views of the Petronas twin towers - gorgeous! Otherwise the standard rooms on the lower floors have no views and tend to be noisier. This hotel doesn't have a pool but apparently you can use the pool at the nearby Federal hotel. The lifts in this hotel are a bit weird and don't seem to have decent air-conditioning. Otherwise, this hotel is really great value and we will probably stay here again. If you are visiting KL for shopping and food, stay here. If you have a company expense account or want big rooms and swan around in poolside luxury, try the Mandarin Oriental next to the twin towers :-)

Nice, clean hotel with good location.

from truewords
Its a nice and Clean hotel with model design hotel room. Location is good, shopping centers, restauants and some local food center all nearby and beside it. Monorail trains station are also within 5-10mins walking distance. Very accessible to other bigger shopping malls. It is consider as the best among all 3 star hotel.

Excellent Location and Quality

from W001
Just to endorse other comments here that the Hotel Capitol turned out to be a wonderful surprise. Highly recommended. It cost us each US$70/night for premier rooms (3 individual rooms) when we turned up on the doorstep exhausted from Delhi.

It was at least 4 star in my opinion and the location was precisely what we wanted. There are at least 3 shopping malls immediately outside, plus market traders in the area for better deals. Monorail a block away, plenty of food choices. I'd choose Capitol again.

Top Local Tips for Kuala Lumpur

KLIA Get the KLIA Ekspress train from the KL International Airport (KLIA) to KL Central. Much cheaper and faster than a transfer and taxi and very easy too!

buy taxi token at airport Buy taxi token at airport before you leave the airport.

Twin Towers Tickets to travel up in the towers are free - but you don't get to get up right away - you get booked for a time. My advice: get tickets as soon as you get there and then continue with a tour of the area. We didn't pick up the tickets until we were finished looking around the area and then decided we didn't want to wait until 6 p.m. - so never went up.
