I stayed in Lavender Lodge from 2nd July to 9th July 2008. I was greatly satisfied. The room is very clean. The shared toilets/bathrooms are surprisingly very clean too, because the staff clean uo them so frequently. The lodge is well located in the centre. The boss and his staff are highly friendly and helpful. They offer excellent service: breakfast included, coffee, tea and iced water offered all the day, free internet connection. They even offer free airport pick-up. My flight arrived in KK at 22H30 and I was picked up at airport! A high grade hotel service. What can you expect more for such a budget hotel.

To be truthful, I did not know what to expect when I booked my vacation to Kota Kinabalu. I was looking for some sun and some beach and a relaxing time. When I booked my accommodations at Lavender Lodge through their website, I was immediately responded to by Daniel who said that he would pick me up from the airport. What service! When I arrived, he was there just as he said and the drive to the Lodge was no more than 15 minutes. The lodge is located right in the city centre - making it convenient to get to everything you need to get to. The rooms were clean and the staff were extremely friendly. It was the staff that informed me of the many other things to do in Sabah. It is an adventure seekers paradise. While my main goal was to just lie on a beach, I could not resist getting out to one of the activities in the interior and I visited Mount Kinabalu park and Poring Hot Springs - which was booked through the lodge. Overall, this was a great trip and the Lavender Lodge certainly helped. I don't think I have stayed in a hostel/lodge that was more clean and staffed with more friendly people - and the price is hard to beat. If you like absolute peace and quiet though, the city centre may not be for you - most of the lodges/hostels are in the city centre so I can't imagine any of those would be much better.

I spent alot of time looking for a place to stay for 9 days in KK. I sent numerous emails to various Hotels/Lodges and got the best and quickest response from Daniel at Lavender Lodge.
Daniel started off our adventure by picking us up at the Airport which was something he didn't have to do but was a very nice gesture, one of many he did for us while staying at the hotel.
The hotel was very clean, the staff was very friendly, there was coffee and toast in the morning if you wanted and the use of the computer was free. The room was basic but very clean and the bed was comfortable. Daniel, his wife and staff did everything they could do to make us comfortable and I would highly recommend this Lodge to anyone.
Thank you Daniel, we will be back...
Warm regards, Brian B.

We are very happy to have chosen this hotel as it turned out to be a new budget hotel. It is exactly as described in the website. very clean and comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staffs, very quiet, so just the right place to unwind after sightseeing and diving trips.good value for money and highly recommended.

Top Local Tips for Kota Kinabalu

Buses when catching minibuses in Sabah, be prepared to wait until the bus is full or buy up the spare seat tickets. you could be waiting for hours, so suggest any travel be done early morning when more people want to use the mini buses. I don't recommend this for people with long legs. the mini buses are filled with 11 small people. However mini buses are quicker than the large coaches, so if time isn't a problem and comfort is more important catch a coach to places like the national park.

Markets Try to be there on a Sunday for endless market action.
