Where to stay in the Cameron Highlands Travelling with my husband and parents-in-law i was concerned Ringlet would be too far out and we would want to eat etc in Tanah Rata. I was surprised how unattractive a lot of the Highlands are - great swathes of plastic sheeting and poly-tunnels, along with sprawling work force which manage the farms - not quite the unspoilt idyll i had imagined. I would recommend staying off the main drag of Tanah Rata unless you are backpacking. If you want some RnR the Lakehouse would be a good choice, I was relieved when we headed out of Tanah Rata towards the lake.

Tea Plantations and Strawberry Farm The tea plantations are closed on Mondays, the roads up to them have a barrier across. The best strawberry picking place we found was Mountain Strawberry Farm, turn off the main road at the Sungai Palas Junction.

Taxis Taxis are the best way to get around. The Lakehouse will book you a car at a fixed rate which is reasonable, but on the way back definitely bargain with local taxis as they do start high. We got the bus to KL which was an easy trip and took about 3.5 hours (from tourist information bureau in Tanah Rata).
