Top Local Tips for Vientiane

Going through Friendship Bridge We arrived at Udon Thani and took a limousine service to the Laos border for 1,500 baht - it was worth it as it was a 60 km ride fro the Thai border town to the bridge. As we have an elderly person with us, it was difficult to get in and out of the vehicle. Unfortunately it was not possible for the Udon Thani airport limousine to take us across the border to Vientianne so we dropped off at the Laos side of the bridge and then took a raggety van to our hotel. On the return trip, three days later, we had arranged for a private car and driver to pick us up at Vientianne airport to Udon Thani. Although the service cost us US$80, it was worth the while as our driver clear immigration on both sides of the bridge and we did not need to step out of the car.We had given our driver prior notice and he had sufficient time to apply for a permit to bring his Laotian car across to Udon Thani

La Cave de Chateux Excellent food at a reasonable price (compared to developed countries). The house wine is rather enjoyable and reasonably priced, and the two pots of chocolate for pudding were to die for!!

Sunset Sunset over the Mekong is a beautiful sight. The best way to view it is with a cold Beer Lao at a bar hanging over the riverbank - Sala Sunset Bar, which appears to be built out of driftwood, gets my vote.
