This hotel has two room sizes, small and smaller. I stayed in both on my first trip to Japan. Both rooms reeked of cigarette smoke. The smell of cigarettes was in the drapes, carpet, walls, and even the mattress. It was so bad that I had the hotel staff change the drapes and I bought a bottle of Fabreeze for the room. In three days I used almost the entire bottle of Fabreeze. I'm an ex smoker and the smoke really bothered me. I've vowed to never again stay at this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Yokosuka

Buses do as well as taxis to get to main base. Take time to find the frequent local buses (#22 and #28) that go past Main Gate when you arrive at train station. Taxi drivers, many of whom seem to despise Americans, take full advantage of newcomers not knowing that the distance to Main Gate is quite short. The bus stops basically at the same point where the bus also stops, the difference being about 500 yen extra charged by taxis, which is over $6.00 these days. If you have time and weather permits, there is a nice harbor walk park to left of Eki as you arrive in town, and you could walk to Main gate in less than 20 minutes just following the park path for most of the way. Also try to get to the real downtown Yokosuka and not just the sleazy "business" area outside Main Gate (you don't want to be there late on a Friday night). Real downtown Yokosuka is modern and clean, although I still recommend nearby Kamkura or Kurihama if you want to see real Japan.
