I have stayed at the Sunshine City Prince 8 times since 1991. This last visit in April 2004 was disappointing in that the condition of the lobby were quite poor and the number of staff seemed to have been reduced. My room was adequate, but had not been upgraded at all in recent years. I love the area and have wonderful memories of the hotel and hope that some investment in the property for improvements will be made.

Top Local Tips for Tokyo

Wander around and try something new Tokyo has so many amazing and cheap restaurants. We were eating in local restaurants for between $15 - $30 per head (entre, main, rice and alcohol) each night for dinner. Best to wander around and area and scope out what is open and prices. Then try one of them. Take a phrase book if the menu is not available in English. Many places have plastic food in the window or pictures on the menu to point to if necessary!

Anime and Outlet Mall 1) Anime heaven is Mandarake at Nakano. Take the JR Yamanote to Shinjuku. Then take the train to Nakano from there. Once you get out of the station, there should be a mall across the street. The 4 storey of anime heaven is located at the end of the mall. Go up one storey when you reach the end of the mall. 2) Gotemba Outlet Mall for brand name deals. 2 hour ride on a tour bus. Ticket sold at the Odakyu Sightseeing Centre located just outside the Odakyu department store in Shinjuku. They speak English at the counter. In fact, you'll see the "English" signs hanging from the ceiling. it is 2900 yen for a return trip. The bus stops at the JR station at Hakone where a free shuttle bus takes you to the mall. If you have time, you can figure out how to get to the Hakone JR station and probably save a few more bucks.
