After traveling for two months in Europe and Taiwan I needed a place to slow down for my two day stay in Tokyo. After arriving at the Akasada Prince Hotel the service was exellent. The staff was very informative on where to go and how to get there. I really enjoyed my stay and would definataly recommend the Akasaka to anyone who is traveling through Japan.

What a treat to stay at the Akasaka Prince in Tokyo. We loved all of your special attention to your guests. The wonderful items in the bathrooms and the comfort of your large rooms made our trip even more wonderful. We would definitely visit again.

The Asakusa View Hotel is the best deal in Tokyo. Ideally located near a subway stop, it is in an older part of the city and within site of the Asakusa Temple complex (hence its name!). This is a relatively calm area of Tokyo and a few blocks off the main streets there is a glimpse of traditional Japanese life, unhurried and simplified. Many places to eat from rice-bowl shops to high end eateries in walking distance. Staff is extremely helpful and courteous. The rooms are well-appointed if somewhat small as expected. Will stay there again when travels take me back to Tokyo.

Top Local Tips for Tokyo

Be prepared to keep your own garbage Tokyo is the cleanest city we have ever seen, and that is saying a lot. There are very few garbage cans anywhere in the city so when you buy a candy bar you are expected to keep the wrapper until you get home or to a hotel room etc. It is amazing how well the rule works and no one throws out any litter at all!

Museum at the New Otani Hotel Across the street from the Grand Prince, the New Otani Hotel has a lovely little museum with changing exhibits. When we were there, the exhibit was 100 Views of Edo - woodblock prints by Hiroshige.

Our itinerary - what we liked and what we were indifferent about We were in Tokyo for four nights. First evening - Roppongi (miss). Day 2 - Tsukiji Fish Market in the morning (hit), Detached Palace Gardens (hit), Monogatori Onsen (highlight), Akihabara (hit), Shinjuku (highlight). Day 3 - Nikko (highlight), karaoke (hit). Day 4 - Tokyo National Museum (miss), Shibuya/Harajuku (hit).
