We were pleasantly suprprised at the outstanding facilities and service provided for us during our short stay at the Best Western Takayama. We were impressed with the front desk staff, particularly Miss Kana Wada, who (besides speaking excellent English) was a delightful individual to deal with. She also assisted us greatly in securing a room in Tokyo and cancelling a previous reservation we had elsewhere. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone. Keep up the good work!

Top Local Tips for Takayama

Takayama Autumn Festival A colorful festival. Happens every year on Oct 9 snd Oct 10. The town will be lined with 18th century colorful floats. There are puppets on the floats and have regular performance. Very fun to watch.

Takayama - Autumn getaway We bought Japan JR pass for a week. Arrived at Osaka Kansa Airport, change our JR coupon to the JR 7 day pass. Get onboard the JR train to Shin Osaka, change to Shinkansen to Nagoya and then Hida line to Takayama. We arrived Osaka around 8am, Shin Osaka around 10am and Nagoya around 12pm. We stopped at Nagoya to buy our first bento lunch at the basement of the shopping mall just next to the train station. Hop on to the Hida line to Takayama. The bento lunch was a selection of shushi (real fresh!). One thing I really love about the train in Japan, you can change the facing direction of the seats! and the vending machines, cold and hot drinks are available everywhere, with a great variety. You must visit the Hida Folk Village at Takayama. You can hop on the bus from the train station, it's only about 15 minutes ride. Another must go location is the Shiroyama Park. The autumn leaves were awesome! Handicraft items are too good to be missed!

Hida beef and Sake Make sure you try the Hida Beef at the restaurant behind the lifesized (Hida Beef) bull statue. Visit Ateya sake winebar in the same street(other side of the road) where enthusiastic Takeshi (English speaking barman) happily imparts knowledge during a tasting session (not $$$ either).
