Top Local Tips for Osaka
Osaka has some of the best food Avoid eating at the restaurants in the hotel. It is so easy to eat well, and to eat what the locals eat at extremely low prices ($5-7 US, tax, tip included) just by stepping out of your "comfort zone" and wandering through the maze of shops and restaurants that make up Osaka Kita (the north part of the city). It's intimidating in the same way that Shibuya or Shinjuku in Tokyo might be for a first-timer but the food is simply fantastic. Osaka has merchant roots and that's given it some of the best food around. Definitely give it a try.
Transport from Kansai Airport We found the Airport Limousine bus from Kansai into central Osaka was great, very easy to find at the Airport and only 2 stops in the area of Osaka that we were going to so you are not trailing around heaps of hotels before you get to yours!
Conquering the confusing Osaka subway While not as mind-bogglingly confusing as the Tokyo subway system, the Osaka subway still take some getting used to. In the vast majority of cases, getting from one station to another takes a maximum of one change of train lines. Look at the map above the ticket machines, know which station you are at, which station you want to go, take note of the price, remember the line and (after buying the ticket) locate and proceed to the correct platform. For big interchange stations like Osaka, it may be more confusing as the map would be more complicated. Just keep your wits about you and you'll be fine.
