Nothing special about this Hilton which was in need of a renovation when we stayed there last. Rooms had a musty smell and were typically Japanese small, not much different from a businessman's hotel at twice the price. Good F&B made up for some of this, however, and the entire hotel is immaculate.

Top Local Tips for Nagoya

Kyoto, Takayama, Kyoto trip was quite long for a coach tour but the rest stops were great, clean and fun because of all the vendo machines. If you are traveling with a group that has kids 10 years and below, tour bus is more convenient than trains. An English speaking guide is always helpful. We read somewhere that Japanese people do not accept tip so we brought with us little token gifts for our tour bus driver and tour guide which was greatly appreciated. Must not miss the Golden Pavilion and the Nijo Castle. The kids enjoyed the castle and the history of the samurai shoguns in Japan. Takayama was quite delightful. Must see the floats and walk through the old street. My kids and I rode a rickshaw paying 4500 yen for 20 minutes. Quite expensive but the rickshaw man gave us historical insights through the old streets. Many Japanese food shops around here and must try samples put in little containers. My kids found this walk very interesting.

Gifu Castle Only 25 minutes away by train from the Meitetsu Nagoya station is GIFU. In this small town, there is the Gifu castle (look on Google or at http://www.jcastle.info/castle/profile/39-Gifu-Castle) From the station, take the bus 80 opposite the street towards the park ('koen' in Japanese) - it's 8 minutes ride by bus max. , 200 yen to pay - and take the ropeway to the castle. Have good shoes and water, it's difficult to walk to the castle but it's worth the effort. You have a very nice view at the top. You can also climb by foot but it's long ....
