Would definitely come here again!
from Miss_NeedleThe restaurant in there was very good as well. While I'm usually leary of hotel restaurants, I would have to say that this restaurant was our second favorite (our first, being Mozaic). We had a beautiful table overlooking the jungle during lunch. During dinner, we opted to be inside. Both were fabulous experiences.
The one thing I wasn't too crazy about was that one of the shuttle drivers tried to take us to a batik shop. He was probably going to get a commission, and said that we only could stay there for 10 minutes because he had to take the shuttle back. So he was definitely doing this behind the hotel's back. But one bad apple did not spoil the batch in this case.
high end
from GaborCserhatiTo sum up: absolutely top-notch hideaway resort in a marvellous environment in Bali, with excellent staff and service.
we felt like royalty!
from englishdaisywas ok but not as good as expected
from RAWSOverall we enjoyed our stay but would not go back as there is better value to be had for the money we spend in other hotels in Ubud. They were ok with children but I did not like them not allowing the children in lower pool and restaurant while the hotel did not inform us about this during booking.
Great grounds, but expensive for what you get

from andy_zuLocation:
Close to Ubud Main Street, but not too close to make you lose the serene and tranquility of the resort. The resort itself is very tranquil and you will not hear anything more than birds singing, wind, and the silence itself. On the east, its facing Petanu River's valley and on the west it's facing ricefields. If you make reservation, ensure that you book a room that face the valley, because the view is more dramatic. However, the view of ricefields itself is lovely as well (as long as it has not been harvested), but privacy is less, because even there's such quite a distance, but in the daylight, you can see the farmers and I'm sure they can see you when you're on the terrace of your villa. I proved it when I took a walk on the ricefields.
Room:
We booked a deluxe pool villa. So the villa itself has a plunge pool outside and facing the valley. Our villa is 608, and i think it's one of the best and have most privacy because it is the last villa on the row and next to us is presidential pool villa (the most expensive one). It's relatively far from the lobby and the general pool but quite close to the spa and it's dramatic pool. Room is spacious, nothing too fancy about the furniture, but it brought the natural feeling because all of them are made from wood, and most important point, it's clean and spotless. The room is equipped with TV, DVD Player and minibar.
Bathroom:
Big metal bathtub with shower and it has a window facing the plunge pool. It was so nice to sink on the bathtub and when you look outside, you'll see the plunge pool and the valley. Amenities is 5-star standard, complimentary 4 bottles mineral water everyday. They have a ceiling fan and AC as well. Bed is comfortable and also the threads and pillow. Minor problem, the room did not have master button to turn-off all the light. But it's no big thing for me.
Activities:
We did the beginner yoga class and nature walk. Yoga class on Friday start at 3pm to 4pm on the open air ground near tennis court. It's OK, but eventhough teh ground was quite shaded, I sweat very much more bacuse of the heat, rather than the exercise. Nature walk is actually a walk surrounding the resort complex and in some extend, you can go down to the Petanu River. It's only 45 minutes, but you'll not regret, as the Petanu River is quite serene and cleaner than Ayung River.
Spa:
The best part of Maya is it's spa. It is a huge complex, with a free-form infinity swimming pool facing the river valley and they have numbers of spa pavillions facing the valley as well. The swimming pool at the spa is awesome and so inspiring. I swim there everyday and never get bored. We did the spa treatment on one of the pavilion built just by the bank of the river. The pavilion is very quiet and the view is so beautiful. The pavilion is also beautifully design. They have open air shower, bale for relax, beside the regular equipment like reflexology chair, tretament tables and water basin. However, the design and the location that distinguish this spa from other spas I've been to. Price is quite expensive, but I think it's worth, because of the location, the view, the serenity, and the inspiring overall setting of the spa.
Dining:
We did not eat at Maya's resto, but the breakfast is excellent. It has variety of dishes and one part of them is catered for japanes tourists.
Staff:
Friendly, attentive and helpful. Mr. Wirjana, who greet us on arrival, help us with the booking of activities and also fulfill our request to have a villa facing teh valley (initially we were put on the villa facing the ricefield, but on last minute, my partner decided to take the valley one). The spa manager, Ms. Rini, especially the one who is very helpful in explaining about the spa, the treatment, and even she help planned our treatment schedule to fit our activities during the day.
Pool:
Beside the one in spa complex, Maya also have one rectangular infinity pool near the lobby. It is also facing the valley but it's less dramatic than the one in the spa.
Staff provide us with the towels and provide a glass of water for every guest in the pool. Beside pool beds, they also have cabanas on the side of the pool, just behind the row of the pool beds. One of the staff even recommended the best pool bed to lay down because he said that this pool bed have the most view of the valley ... LOL. Well, I did take his recommendation and I have to agree. Choose the pool bed at the most left side of the spa swimming pool.
One more point that make us very pleasant about Maya is the ownership. Maya is owned by Indonesian and so far I did not see any expatriate managers (read: Westerner) on the resort. It is good to know that the money spent on this heavenly resort is going nowhere outside Indonesia. It is also make us proud that even Indonesian could handle and manage this beautiful resort and maintain its best service beyond expectation.
I will not put photos of the room, because some members have posted the same pics, but I put otehr pics (spa, valley, etc.) just to give you overall idea of Maya Ubud.
We loved it!!
from DyerbeastWe have stayed at many top-quality hotels throughout the world, but we loved this hotel's mix of great staff, quiet relaxing location, lovely food, and comfortable well-designed rooms.
Food at the hotel was more expensive than in Ubud, but was good quality, without rip-off prices.
It takes about 20 minutes to walk into the centre from the hotel, and we made good use of the shuttle service. After 6.00 you can phone the hotel from your retaurant and they will send a taxi for you for IRP35k.
Complimentary beginner's pilates class with Gina was good, and the complimentary afternoon tea and cakes was lovely.
As we are both vegtarian, we were imporessed by the number of vegetarian choices, especially for dinner.
We will definitely go back to Maya Ubud, and would recommend this strongly (Eg better than Datai Langkawi, Four seasons Chiang Mai etc etc)
Truly Outstanding!
from IjustwannaflyA Beautiful Experience, Beautiful Place
from A TripAdvisor MemberAnother highlight was my spa treatment at the Maya... a massage, scrub and flower-petal bath overlooking a rushing ravine... truly three of the best hours of my life. It was that good.
We found breakfast to be excellent and although the hotel restaurants were good, there are so many great places to eat in Ubud that we didn't spend too much of our time in them.
Overall, an excellent experience. Go out of your way or out of your budget to stay at Maya, if that's what it takes. Highly recommended!
Top Local Tips for Ubud
Please do not miss Mozaic Mozaic should not be missed on this trip if you're a foodie. Mozaic can definitely stand on its own compared to the top New York restaurants. And it's quite a bargain for Americans and Europeans at $45 USD for a multi-course tasting menu!
Get a independent driver, give him all your taxi and tour requirements They will look after you so much better if you do it this way - You will see parts of Bali and experience things which less scrupulous operators won't tell you about or take you to. Some of the organised trips are a driver and car taking you to a list of his bosses business where you are expected to buy something at each spot. We bought our driver off for £20 and it was much better trip from there on in and he then told us about the pressure these guys put on the drivers. We had known about this before we got to Bali so hope that the same advice helps you too!
Best restaurant in town/Bali Must have dinner in Mozaic in Ubud. Fantasatic restaurant on par with many of the great European/USA restaurants. Worthy of 2 Michelin stars.
