I've just came back from Jakarta with my family. Spend 3 nights in Park Lane. Not impressed with the service, so called 5*. Need to call the rm svc for replenish the toileties, free mineral water etc. Breakfast not fantastic. They chg 4yrs above! How much does a 4yr old eat? In S'pore, Ritz hotel chg chld from 6 yrs-12yrs old. Breakfast coupon even can't be combined as we thought the second day we would like to eat outside for bft. Not interested to come again for sure.

beware of fake corporate taxis One of the frequently heard tips in Jakarta is to use Blue Bird or Silver Bird taxis, and I fully agree with that. Please note though that there are a lot of cabs that look very similar to Blue Birds. You should look for the company name on the windshield and the logo at the doors. In addition, don't trust security guards in front of clubs or hotels you don't know - they frequently collaborate with private taxi drivers and it's difficult to get away with facing an opened door of a suspicious taxi - something that will cost you extra money and a rather unsafe feeling.

Jakarta Traffic The traffic in Jakarta is horrible, but that is not new it has always been bad. No matter where you go unless its between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am or a Sunday you will be in a traffic jam. Always allow yourself extra time to get to your destination. To get from Central Jakarta (Where the hotel is locate) to South Jakarta can take 2 hours or more. Taxis are reasonably priced and I would suggest a 10% tip as appropiate.
