Top Local Tips for Jakarta

Avoid the traffic jam We came during the 2 consecutive public holidays(20th and 21st March 2008) in Indonesia ( Prophet Muhammad SAW's birthday and Good Friday). Traffic was smooth and the main thoroughfare in front of Sari Pan Pacific was almost empty. However, we were told that roads leading to most tourist spots like Ancol, Puncak or Bandung were congested. Luckily we took the train to Bandung. It's called Argo Gede. We bought the tickets at the train station in Gambir, about 10 minutes taxi ride from Sari Pan Pacific. Ticket costs RP 45000 per person inclusive of refreshments(a slice of cake/bread and a drink). Each seat has a number. Coach is airconditioned and you can order meals from the stewards on the train. There is a left baggage counter at the train station where you can leave your luggage for RP2000 an hour. Just remember to lock your bags before depositing.

Keep Your Wits About You It's best to remember that the airport people are human and prone to error (intentional or otherwise). Make sure conversion rates are accurate and that you can pay in IDR for your rebooking fees, excess baggage etc, even if the attendant insists on USD

cabs always ask for luxury cars coz the cost is the same even if u take a normal cab. he would charge u extra for baggage.
