My friend and I visited Goa for the first time in Oct 2005. We had heard so many different comments, so were unsure what to expect. We decided to go for a 5 star hotel in a not too busy area, knowing that taxis are cheap so we could move around easily. We found the standard of this hotel to be excellent (dont forget we are in India) and the food amazing. The management of this hotel should be so proud of their staff, they do a wonderful job. However we did find the room to be some what tired, we did not complain because we felt it was only a minor point and not one to spoil our exciting holiday - we did mention the rooms on our departure. We have booked again for October of this year and have e mailed the hotel who have promised that we will not be dissapointed with the room this year. I have read reviews on other sites about this hotel some not very good, but please go and see for yourself because some people are only happy when they are unhappy !!!!!!! A big thank you to all the staff and management at Cidade de Goa for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Haven for lazy holiday makers!

Cidade de Goa is a beautiful and well-kept place. Its pros are relaxed atmosphere, excellent cuisine, health care possibilities, peaceful beach, cosmopolitan
clientele, efficient service and the chance to take part in all kinds of dining banquets.
Its cons are a bit sterile atmosphere, impersonal if friendly service, so so rooms
(at least those facing the garden), small balconies, oily beach (tranquil though), high prices (Indian standard) and lack of daytime activities. I recommend the hotel to all those who want to enjoy carefree days in the sun, sip drinks, read books and indulge in the lavish buffets in the evening followed by cocktail music in the patio bar.
Those with more adventurous holiday plans may use it as a base to make excursions from.

Top Local Tips for Vainguinim Beach

Good night's sleep Be prepared for hot sticky nights if you go in Feb/March. Although there is air con and ceiling fans, the nights can get very hot and uncomfortable as there are duvets on the beds which I found unnecessary and a sheet would have sufficed. Unless you specifically want a sea view room, do not pay the upgrade fee as we saw 2 other rooms which were equally as good as ours for which we paid £140 just to ensure a sea view which was partially hidden by trees anway. If you do not want to venture out by taxi to eat, go all inclusive. Food is fantastic although expensive and no-one I knew had an upset tummy from eating in the hotel whereas one or two suffered from eating the jetty. Finally, get up early if you want a bed!!!

taxi Get a taxi for the duration of your stay, walk up the hill & book it direct with the driver.

Patience Be prepared for long queues and staff who couldn't give a s**t about you in the airport. We waited outside the terminal on arrival and were nearly run over by another arriving aircraft - no health and safety rules here. This was followed by about an hour for immigration and half an hour for bags. Check the other carousels as well as the one indicated as ours came out on another! Expect a repeat performance on your departure. Waited outside the airport for an hour followed by an hour and a half for passport control and about seven security checks of various kinds. The airport is under the control of the Indian Navy - and it shows!!!
