Beware of the Taxi cartel In remote resorts ( the views are stunning but urban conveniences are far way) especially the taxi cartels enforce exlcusive use of their service at a premium. This is neither legalized nor made known upfront. You're at their mercy for all mobility including going back to the nearest airport or rail-head from the resort. Drive on your own and hope they don't sabotage your car!!

Do Not Stay in Shimla Proper Shimla is conjested and there is nothing much to see. It has got crowded streets and small alleys wherein you bump into people and oncoming traffic all the time. If you have a car, its hell of an effort to park. Instead stay some 20-30 kms away from Shimla. there is nice view around and there are some pretty good hotels at reasonable rates with awesome view.
