Top Local Tips for Shimla

Have a hot jalabi on the Lower Mall Take a walk along the Lower Mall and watch jalabis (Indian sweet) being made in large talis in front of you. They are delicious and safe to eat since they are fried in extremely hot oil in front of you. Heaven!

Toy Train - interesting but NOT a must.... I took the Toy Train up to Shimla (from Kalca) - the one thing to know if you're doing it is that each Toy Train has different amenties - pick carefully (I did not) - I shared a car with a family of 4 - the kids screamed and jumped around for about 3 hours (of the 5+ hour trip). The bathroom was just a squat one (shared by two cars/compartments) and was so smelly you could smell it even with your compartment door closed... IF you do this trip - pick the upscale train - not one like I did!

Dine-in hotel If you are staying at the Clarkes Shimla then don't bother venturing out for lunch or dinner. The food quality and variety at the hotel restaurant itself is above comparison looking at the limited and below average proper dining facilities in Shimla.
