Excellent Chinese and Indian cuisine, very friendly restaurant and reception staff, the best, largest pool in Pune, fairly good rooms but these are being refurbished in 2005.
All in all a great hotel, better than Sun N Sand!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Taj Blue Diamond Hotel

Excellent business hotel

from tvlohio
Stayed here for three nights in October 2007.

Excellent location near center of Pune.

This hotel is really geared up for business travellers. Business services and internet connectivity are good. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.

Rooms are clean and modern, but relatively spartan. No fancy amenities; just what you need for a good business stay.

Hotel Indian restaurant is excellent; the Italian grill is average.

The best service you can get!

from LockyNorwich
I stayed at the Taj Blue Diamond for 3 weeks whilst working in Pune. Before going, I was a bit disappointed being put there as others were in Le Meridian and the Sun & Sand. The Taj from the website looked a bit like a travelodge.
Boy did I change my mind when I got there!
Within two days all the staff knew my name. They got my mobile sorted for me when I arrived - sending someone to the shop for me at no extra charge.
I was working late hours so mainly used the coffee shop. Again the staff were fab. As I was on my own they looked after me and got me to try Indian puddings etc. Their minestrone soup was lovely and in the end they used to get it ready for me as they saw me coming!
Danny in room service was a scream and Terence on reception couldn't have been more helpful. Even the minibar man had jokes with me.
I ate in Le Meridian and the Sun & Sand and the Taj was definitely the best.
The room was an executive one - spacious and really well equiped - nothing was left out.
Laundry was done really quickly even without express service.
I had my birthday whilst there and I was presented with a bouquet of roses by the manager and all the staff all day were saying happy birthday to me - when you are alone in a foreign country these touches really are priceless.
The location of the hotel is also really good. Quiet but close to Koregoan Park and Central shoping centre.
The only downside to it is the swimming pool. I was there in monsoon season so it didn't matter too much, but it is overlooked by the coffee shop and bar. In a Hindu country I did feel uncomfortable in a bikini sunbathing.
All in all it was a fab stay and the best service I have ever experienced (and I have stayed in top Thai hotels)
I would definitely ask to stay there in future.

Love the quiet

from SusieKent_UK
I have stayed here 3 times now and am always impressed by the quality of service l receive.
Having stayed at Le Meridien and Sun n Sands in Pune, l much prefer this hotel for the peace and quiet, at night l am not disturbed by noise from the railway station ( as at Le Meridien ) or coffee shop banter ( as at Sun n Sands ).
The food in the cafe is excellent, room service is very good and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Will be staying again in November 2007 and am very much looking forward to it.

competent business hotel

from Biggin
had a long stay here while working in Pune (8 weeks). stayed in one of the recently renovated Executive rooms so had dvd with surround sound, flat screen tv and a very nice remodelled bathroom. Hotel was very clean and well maintained, although some areas are ready to be remodelled. The outside doesnt do the inside justice. Staff were always very helpful and friendly. Food can be very good, but a couple of meals were a little rough (The T Bone steak was a disaster, although probably my own fault for having beef in India!). Tried all the restaurants, The Indian, Mystic Masala was excellent. The chinese, Whispering Bamboo was very good, The Coffe Shop and Casabella (the bar) both served the same menu and was good also. A couple of downsides would be the style of the Bar and the Coffee Shop. The bar is looking a little tired now and compared with the bars in other hotels in Pune ( the sun and sands and the meridian) is ready for a makeover, its very dark and isnt very welcoming. The staff are very good though, and the guy playing the keyboard is unintentionally very funny (bontempi organ styled medleys with everything from the Beatles, to Sade, to Europes The final Countdown, without skipping a beat). The coffee shop isnt very comfortable, and again, could do with a remodel. As a long stay guest it would have been nice to have had somewhere to sit and relax with a coffee at the weekend, and the coffee shop just wasnt apealing (it has bistro style iron chairs and is geared more towards dining) again, compared to sun and sands and meridian that both have lounge style coffe shops in the lobby it makes the Taj seem a little dated. The pool area wasnt particuarly inviting. Its location at the side of the hotel means that it remains in shade most of the time. As it was monsoon season, and im not a sun lover anyway it wasnt a problem for me. Overall a very competent business hotel. Id stay again, and would try one of their other hotels if i am in india again.

Great hotel... shame about Pune

from R_Kernohan
I travelled 4 hours from Mumbai by road for an appointment in a hot, dusty factory. I had not had a chance to grab any lunch so therefore I was looking forward to reaching my hotel. When in India I always try and stay in a Taj Group hotel and luckily enough Pune had ' The Blue Diamond' to look forward to. Not the most impressive looking hotel from the outside but opulently decorated within. I stepped up to reception to check-in & two very friendly staff took me to my room.

To my amazement, they opened the door to the best suite I had ever stayed in... the only downside being I was only staying one night. I explored all the rooms and relaxed in front of me plasma TV and had a drink at my very own cocktail bar. The rooms were contemporary, the bathroom was huge and I only discovered the walk-in wardrobe the following morning. I went to the window with my drink and looked out ... I suddenly realised again how the world is so ill divided. The poverty in India is somewhat shocking to us westerners and the surrounding area of the Taj Blue Diamond is no exception. Barely clothed children run the streets bagging for just about anything, but within the high walls of the Blue Diamond, we are encouraged to forget the outside world with the opulent decor of the hotel.

I went for a swim and later that evening went of dinner in an Asian type fusion restaurant. The food and service was fine but my mind was on those poor kids just outside looking for a scrap of food from goodness knows where.

All in all the Taj Blue Diamond is a truly wonderful hotel and if you have to stay in Pune, no better place... but the regional authorities & businesses in the city need to sort out the overcrowded infrastructure and do something for the homeless. India is quickly becoming a major global business player... it needs to reinvest it's money quickly on it's people.

Very Good

from Aashil
Taj blue diamond relateively small hotel but an excellent property situated at the best area in Pune. When it comes to Taj the service is impecable nd blue diamond lives upto its reputation The rooms are well decorated and clean. The buffet suppers are good here. Welll theres absolutely no time required here for a check in or check out pricedures, the stafff is very helpful. All in all a nice hotel to stay in , in a city like pune.

I stayed here on business for a few nights (unfortunately we couldn't stay at the Le Meridien for the entire stay as Brad and Angelina were there and it was totally booked out). The hotel was lovely, very clean everywhere and the service was excellent. Only thing I would say is that the staff do try to be a bit over helpful (which is not a bad thing) but after a tough day and having to check in and out of hotels a number of times that week it was probably just me being stressed out!! The staff were fantastic though and were keen to ensure that you had everything you needed. Top hotel that I would recommend.

Nice hotel, couple of issues

from bristol_traveller_06
This is a good hotel, but for business there are a couple of issues. The business facilities are a bit average, particularly the internet connectivity arrangements that you have to keep renewing each day (you can't just have it on for the whole time you're there).

But the service is good, the rooms are good, there is complimentary water and cold fizzy drinks (three a day) in the fridge. The TV stations are excellent, lots of quality movies on the satellite TV. The location is ok with lots of taxi drivers and there are a number of good restaurants.

There is also a bar which looks like something out of the hotel from "The Shining". Downstairs is a nightclub of sorts (no im not kidding) which was actually really cool, in a quriky kind of way.

I would recommend staying here but check first if you're a business traveller that it suits your needs.

Good Business Hotel

from RMatthews
I stayed for 2 days in the Taj Blue Diamond in Pune in March 2006. This was a good hotel for the business traveller but as with most business hotels the ambiance was lacking. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were very comfortable. The quality of the food was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The Pool is clean and a nice place to relax after work. When I was there the manager had a drinks reception which was a pleasant way to meet other guests. The bar in the hotel was okay although not that busy and most guests were business travellers.

Only critisism was that the rooms have WI-FI only so the speed of the internet was limited to 11mbs. This was not a major issue for most applications (email etc) but meant that it was slower than if they used traditional Ethernet.

When I was there I also visited Le Meridian (for Dinner) and if I was visiting Pune on vacation I would prefer to stay there, only because it is more of tourist hotel.

If you are a business traveller visiting Pune then the Taj Diamond is a good choice of hotel.

Good location, not so good staff

from HelzBelz
Fantastic comfortable hotel, lovely food, lots of western choice as well as Indian. Fab rooms. Shame about the staff. I found them rude, grumpy and unhelpful! Very unusual for India.
Don't let this put you off, this hotel is in a fab location for exploring Pune, v near the hippy areas of Kore-Gaon park and not far from the main shopping street of MG road.
Not for sun-worshipers, the pool is surrounded by trees on 1 side, and the building on the other 3!

Top Local Tips for Pune

Get in... and get out. Pune is becoming like many other major industrial cities in India, OVERCROWDED. If you have a reason to be there, give yourself plenty of time. The cities infrastructure is at the point of meltdown and the roads are choked with complete congestion.

a day at the races If its the right time of year, go to one of the race meets at the local racecourse. £3 gets you into the members enclosure. drinks are cheap, and if your anything like me it'll be the only time be able to say you've bet thousands on a horse. A really good day out, especially if its one of the sponsored events, as there will be lots of Mumbai models and Bollywood stars about.
