Historical Traveller Reviews of Taj Blue Diamond Hotel
Excellent business hotel
from tvlohioExcellent location near center of Pune.
This hotel is really geared up for business travellers. Business services and internet connectivity are good. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.
Rooms are clean and modern, but relatively spartan. No fancy amenities; just what you need for a good business stay.
Hotel Indian restaurant is excellent; the Italian grill is average.
The best service you can get!
from LockyNorwichBoy did I change my mind when I got there!
Within two days all the staff knew my name. They got my mobile sorted for me when I arrived - sending someone to the shop for me at no extra charge.
I was working late hours so mainly used the coffee shop. Again the staff were fab. As I was on my own they looked after me and got me to try Indian puddings etc. Their minestrone soup was lovely and in the end they used to get it ready for me as they saw me coming!
Danny in room service was a scream and Terence on reception couldn't have been more helpful. Even the minibar man had jokes with me.
I ate in Le Meridian and the Sun & Sand and the Taj was definitely the best.
The room was an executive one - spacious and really well equiped - nothing was left out.
Laundry was done really quickly even without express service.
I had my birthday whilst there and I was presented with a bouquet of roses by the manager and all the staff all day were saying happy birthday to me - when you are alone in a foreign country these touches really are priceless.
The location of the hotel is also really good. Quiet but close to Koregoan Park and Central shoping centre.
The only downside to it is the swimming pool. I was there in monsoon season so it didn't matter too much, but it is overlooked by the coffee shop and bar. In a Hindu country I did feel uncomfortable in a bikini sunbathing.
All in all it was a fab stay and the best service I have ever experienced (and I have stayed in top Thai hotels)
I would definitely ask to stay there in future.
Love the quiet
from SusieKent_UKHaving stayed at Le Meridien and Sun n Sands in Pune, l much prefer this hotel for the peace and quiet, at night l am not disturbed by noise from the railway station ( as at Le Meridien ) or coffee shop banter ( as at Sun n Sands ).
The food in the cafe is excellent, room service is very good and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Will be staying again in November 2007 and am very much looking forward to it.
competent business hotel
from BigginGreat hotel... shame about Pune
from R_KernohanTo my amazement, they opened the door to the best suite I had ever stayed in... the only downside being I was only staying one night. I explored all the rooms and relaxed in front of me plasma TV and had a drink at my very own cocktail bar. The rooms were contemporary, the bathroom was huge and I only discovered the walk-in wardrobe the following morning. I went to the window with my drink and looked out ... I suddenly realised again how the world is so ill divided. The poverty in India is somewhat shocking to us westerners and the surrounding area of the Taj Blue Diamond is no exception. Barely clothed children run the streets bagging for just about anything, but within the high walls of the Blue Diamond, we are encouraged to forget the outside world with the opulent decor of the hotel.
I went for a swim and later that evening went of dinner in an Asian type fusion restaurant. The food and service was fine but my mind was on those poor kids just outside looking for a scrap of food from goodness knows where.
All in all the Taj Blue Diamond is a truly wonderful hotel and if you have to stay in Pune, no better place... but the regional authorities & businesses in the city need to sort out the overcrowded infrastructure and do something for the homeless. India is quickly becoming a major global business player... it needs to reinvest it's money quickly on it's people.
Very Good
from Aashil'
from camabrNice hotel, couple of issues
from bristol_traveller_06But the service is good, the rooms are good, there is complimentary water and cold fizzy drinks (three a day) in the fridge. The TV stations are excellent, lots of quality movies on the satellite TV. The location is ok with lots of taxi drivers and there are a number of good restaurants.
There is also a bar which looks like something out of the hotel from "The Shining". Downstairs is a nightclub of sorts (no im not kidding) which was actually really cool, in a quriky kind of way.
I would recommend staying here but check first if you're a business traveller that it suits your needs.
Good Business Hotel
from RMatthewsOnly critisism was that the rooms have WI-FI only so the speed of the internet was limited to 11mbs. This was not a major issue for most applications (email etc) but meant that it was slower than if they used traditional Ethernet.
When I was there I also visited Le Meridian (for Dinner) and if I was visiting Pune on vacation I would prefer to stay there, only because it is more of tourist hotel.
If you are a business traveller visiting Pune then the Taj Diamond is a good choice of hotel.
Good location, not so good staff
from HelzBelzDon't let this put you off, this hotel is in a fab location for exploring Pune, v near the hippy areas of Kore-Gaon park and not far from the main shopping street of MG road.
Not for sun-worshipers, the pool is surrounded by trees on 1 side, and the building on the other 3!
Top Local Tips for Pune
Get in... and get out. Pune is becoming like many other major industrial cities in India, OVERCROWDED. If you have a reason to be there, give yourself plenty of time. The cities infrastructure is at the point of meltdown and the roads are choked with complete congestion.
a day at the races If its the right time of year, go to one of the race meets at the local racecourse. £3 gets you into the members enclosure. drinks are cheap, and if your anything like me it'll be the only time be able to say you've bet thousands on a horse. A really good day out, especially if its one of the sponsored events, as there will be lots of Mumbai models and Bollywood stars about.
