Its been quite some time since me and my friends had spent some quality time together. We wanted a comfortable stay but wanted it to be within budget and that's when we found out about Ginger, Hotel. Located in a very peaceful surrounding the hotel had an excellent value for money quotient. The place is designed as "help yourself" but with assistance available, so it saves a lot on tips et al. The first delight came when the hotel arranged for a conveyance from airport at a reasonable price, compared to what was being offered by regular Taxi service provider around. The rooms are awsome and very clean and loved the bathrooms with good furnishings, hot water and perfectly clean towels. The idea of hot water kettle available with some basic tea making facility along with cold water in the fridge was an absolute delight especially after the long drive from Chennai airport.
The TV viewing experience was a royal one with the flat screen and comfortable beds to sit and watch in. It made me feel good for i was able to watch my fav shows even on a holiday.
The cafe coffee day outlet with 24 hour service and small book shop had a lot to offer and the resturant by a south indian star truly gave an exclusive feeling of being a valued guest. Perfectly relaxing stay. I plan a trip to Pondicherry again and it is more to do with Ginger experience.
Overall we could not believe we were getting all this luxury at such an amazingly low price and we spent 2 days feeling each penny's worth. And that's when we called up some other friends who were planning a trip to Pondicherry and recommended them the hotel strongly. We look forward to Ginger experience at other places as well.

This was my first leisure trip to pondicherry and we got to stay at Hotel Ginger, The property was quite well maintained with ample parking space keeping in mind it was a serve your self budget hotel. The hotel has a 24x7 Cafe which is managed by Cafe Coffee Day so we got to relish good coffee, pastry and sandwiches anytime of the day. The hotel also has a resturant which is run by a famous malayalam actor Mohanlal, we usually had our morning breakfast which was served in this resturant. The hotel was located in the city and the advantage was that all places of Visit was closeby and the driving distance was very less. The rooms were quite spacious and had all facilities like refridgerator, coffee maker, LCD TV , Window A/C etc. If you are travelling with kids then it is best to request for twin beds in the room as the king size bed offered by the hotel is good enough for only 2 people. The staff was quite helpful and any problem in the room was being attended immediately. The good part of this hotel is the Tariff and as the hotel poster says that you can save money on your stay and spend the same for your shopping etc... The hotel also allows you to carry food from outside, Pizza corner delivers to this hotel and the menu is available in the room. Overall experience was quite good, we have requested them to increase the no.of entertainment channels available on the cable network. Also not the least the hotel has good gym facility and also internet cyber cafe for people who want to browse. Well Maintained Budget Hotel.

Ginger Pondicherry is excellent value for money. Clean bathrooms, sheets, comfortable bed and an effective a/c made our stay a comfortable one. We do have a huge grouse against the night duty front office staff though- not all of them but this one pervert called 'Frank'. As we waited at his desk to purchase the wi-fi card, Frank made several lewd gestures...read winking, blowing kisses, staring intently at my breasts etc. All this, while my boyfriend and I exchanged quizzical looks. As we went back to our room after the ordeal, we realized that the magnetic card that opens the room door was disabled and had to make another trip downstairs to request 'Pervert Frank' to help reactivate the key. 'Pervert Frank' ensured we grimaced this time too.
Paying less to stay in a hotel like Ginger definitely should not mean putting up with deviants like these.

We stayed at the Ginger hotel in Pondicherry in December 08. We had read some reviews talking about its 'good location'. Well, the location is horrible. It is only about 2km from the beach, but then Pondicherry is very small.
The main issue is that it is not in the French district at all. We had to go through the main market areas each day to reach the French areas and the beach. We had to rent a bike so we could easily move around. However, given that we went there to relax, a hotel in the French district would be much better.
The hotel itself is fine. The rooms are well appointed, and for the price the overall fit and finish is quite nice. However, if you are going to live in Pondicherry, living anywhere except for the French quarter is not advisable.

There are already plenty of reviews about Ginger, Pondy. I would better keep it short.

1) hotel is basic. It is simple and neat. It has got a mini air conditioner, compact LCD tv, contemporary interiors and easily accessible from and to French town.

2) The restaurant and the CCD coffee shop make this hotel look like a mini mall and in weekends, it gets nasty with visitors rather than guests.

3) Location was not great at all. If you prefer to hit this hotel for just sleeping, book in this one. there is no view of beach or sand from this. Pondy is a little town and with no such feature, the price is quite high.

We did our booking thru the Ginger website for 2 night stay in last week of Jan'09, the whole process was easy and smooth. The hotel is located at a strategic place and will not have a problem locating the place. The property has sufficient parking place too. The first feel was very encouraging... lobby was very well lit, bright paint and a great ambeince.
Check-in is where the problem started, we had booked for 4 rooms, inspite of the check-in time at 12 noon, the rooms were not ready when we arrived ie at 3 PM. We were told the systems are down...after 30 min of wait..we were given one room to freshen up and were told the other rooms would be ready in the next 30 min. We decided to dump our luggages freshen up and spend time on the beach road. We requested the reception to keep the rooms ready when we returned. We retured at around 7 PM and guess what..the rooms were still not alloted to us...it seems some corporated guest overstayed and it will take another hour for the rooms to get ready.....what an excuse :) It was something we didnt expect from a profession hotel chain like "Ginger". Once we raised our voices and gave a peace of our mind to the guys at the reception, guess what ...the rooms were allotted in the next 10 min....
Rooms were very comfortable..Cozy beds, nice lighting, LCD TV, Fridge....But then it looked like our stay was jinxed.....we switched on the AC...after a few min..the room started smelling.... later realised the smell was from the Gutter (Sewage ) which runs next to the hotel. Guess what this was same case for all rooms located on the gutter side (3 out of 4 rooms of our family were on gutter side). The 4th one was lucky. We called the reception, but they had no solution.....So we had to go without the AC for the duration of the stay...

To sum up...excellent property...but the irritants like the check-in process and the smell from the gutter made our stay not all that pleasent......

EASY BOOKING: With a strong network, booking a room in Ginger Hotel is hardly a problem. For.e.g I booked this hotel through TravelGuru. However, one can opt for booking this hotel online or on phone.

EASY ACCESS: Ginger Hotel is located in one of the prime locations of Pondicherry. Rather, let me put it this way- Almost everyone in Pondicherry regards 'Hotel Ginger' as a landmark by itself. So don't worry to get mislead.

FRIENDLY, YET PROFESSIONAL STAFF: You can't call it as a coincidence when you find everyone working in this hotel to be customer-friendly. Right from the security personnel to the hotel manager. But more importantly the front desk staff. I was particulary impressed with an employee named 'Saranya' who was pretty good at her work.

OVERALL RATING OF 5 (out of 5): Considering the overall experience during my stay at Ginger hotel, Pondicherry; I'd give this hotel a rating of 5 out 5. Best feature(s) of Ginger Hotel: Courteous staff, cleanliness, Wi-Fi option, Gym, tie-up with Pizza corner & CCD. All this in a pretty reasonable rate.

I have booked this hotel for a night's stay in Pondy...The HOtel was slight expensive for a hotel in Pondy..BUt the rooms were good, Nice Air Conditioning..neat room, free access to gym...Nice hotel for a quite stay in Pondy....It does not come with BF...But the hotel has cafe coffee day inside and they do deliver pizzas from Pizza corner and there is a slighty expensive restauirant in the hotel part of Mohanla Grp of restaurants...

Overall NIce hotel to stay in Pondy with LCD TVs in the rooms and Hot water flowing 24 hrs...

The Ginger Pondicherry is GR8 VALUE FOR MONEY ! Has a few hiccups but overall, it was really clean, ecofriendly ,n location also was not so bad ! Though they could do with more on the room service front especially where food is concerned as the Cafe Coffee Day is not as efficient as it should be and the Restaurant could have an A La Carte Menu although it would have to be limited but nevertheless is missing at the moment !!! Overall its a gr8 place for the Price one pays.

Its a good place to stay if you are looking for a cheap yet best place. It offers you a much better value for money then most others who claim so.
The only negative is that the hotel hasnt got a swimming pool and indoor games. But who needs them either when one is at pondicherry.
Situated in close vicinity of the beaches its an ideal place to stay.

hotel has a restaurant, book shop, a cafe coffee day and good parking space.

Nice place to stay and highly recommended
