I really loved it in goa and staying in the hotel sun village. The staff were just really great and made such a good effort to keep us happy at all times. I loved that hotel and I am definitely going to go back this year hopefully.
Never again!

Stayed in Sun Village Feb 2006 for 2 weeks. The food was good but the same menu every couple of days. We could not get a cool beer or a cool bottle of water from any of the bars. We ate out most nights (we were all inclusive)Rooms were ok but not great. The stairs up to the lawn area are dangerous. Certainly not a 4 star hotel! We normally stay at the Marinha Dourada hotel nearby. Would not recommend Sun Village Hotel

I first went to Sun Village as a single female traveller in 2000, I returned this year ('05) with 2 of our children (10 & 12yrs) on my own as hubby couldn't take leave. Sun Village was welcoming and safe when I first visited which was why I was prepared to go there on my own with the children. The hotel staff make a great effort for you and it's very safe to let the children have their freedom around the complex. Some of the rooms are a bit basic, but clean and I found the food, although good, less impressive than on my previous visit. Would definately return with all four children or just as a couple.
Brilliant holiday

We had a brilliant holiday at this hotel despite the anticipated upset stomach. BBQ meals at hotel good (rats come out to play as the evening quietens down!) Other than that better to eat at beach shacks - no after effects at all! Not 4* in our opinion for food generally.

No fires,no food poisoning and most certainly no complaints.

I am pleased to report,Ladies and Gentlemen, that normal service has been resumed at this exceptional holiday hotel.

I could list all the plus points but you would only be reading again what has already been said on this thread by the overwhelming majority of satisfied customers.

Go and enjoy.

Sun Village Nightmare

from A TripAdvisor Member
Holiday period 19th November 2005 to 4th December 2005. Before I go into the nightmare, I have to agree the staff where great, very friendly, a lovely pleasant race of people, nothing was too much trouble. As for the hotel management and especially the manager, I totally agree with the last reviewer, nothing was too much trouble unless you had a problem, when that happened "nothing happened". They do not care to the point that a room caught fire (no fire extinguishers and no fire alarm system) the occupants were fortunately at the evening buffet, saw the smoke along with 200 plus other guests and raised the alarm, next FACTUAL steps are as follows:
1. Young members of staff, sent into a smoke filled room with towels on there faces to put out an electrical fire with water. (ancient air conditioning unit on fire).
2.All effects and room badly smoke damaged.
3. Guests (COUPLE "A") moved to another room and the room repaired/repainted and reoccupied by other guests one day later.
4. Guests (COUPLE "A") offered compensation only if they agreed not to report the matter to the police or have the police involved in any way.
5. Guests (COUPLE "A") in frequent discussions with manager/management over compensation for 5 days upto last day of holiday.
6. Guests (COUPLE "A") on last day offered NO compensation and told they would have to pay for cleaning of all smoke damaged clothing. All clothing ruined either by the effects of fire or through attempts to clean items.
This is an abridged version of the true events, the conclusion of this I will leave to you 'the reader' to form your own opinion. But definately visit GOA its brilliant. Ask for driver Jeetendra Divkar but not in Feb 2006 as am going back then. Thanks Colin

Stay away from sun Village 100% food poisoning guaranteed

from starfinder
Please take note. Sun village has a food poisoning issue. In two weeks 147 people in the hotel were struck down by this bug, many were hospitalised as its such a nasty strain and the doctor spent 3 full days at the hotel aiding us very sick people. The hotel did not listern to complaints and finally the Reps have taken notice due to all the complaints. The de Souza Group who own the hotel are not interested in our health and well being so don't spend your hard earned cash and precious holiday leave in this hotel.

However if you want to stay in really good surroundings and be attended to by wonderful staff, then this is the place, just don't eat from here go to baga and eat at the shack's were the food is cooked fresh and not sitting around for hours on a buffet.

There is an excellent italian (j&A's) and French resturant next to this on baga river, these are a must visit.

Also do not buy Jewellery from Raj just outside of the sun village hotel as what you are buying is worth alot less when you get back to the uk and the little monster replaces the diamond you viewed (which is top quality) with a cheaper version that doesn't even rate on the diamond scale.!!!. Be warned, even your credit card company will not help you.

Wicked place!!

Got back last night from the wonderful Goa and had to put my review on ASAP!! Sun Village is lovely...out of the way of main town Baga but taxis so so cheap that costs under £1 to get a bit of life if need be. Loads of steps around the hotel so be aware as my fitness levels were put to the test!! Food was varied, really tasty and made part of our holiday. The rooms were clean and spacious. The outdoor areas were spotless and the staff fabulous...cant do enough for you. Favourite restaurant in Baga 'East meets West' (absolutely amazing food and gorgeous setting), best bar 'Mambo's' and best nightclub 'Club Cubana' (set in Arpora hills, very Ibiza-esque and best house music in Goa). I was sceptical before going about Goa as a bit fussy but the people are lovely and you get used to the different way of living straight away. Be aware of cows and loose dogs everywhere!! So much to see and do there. I will definately be back and staying at Sun Village. A must for all!!!

Great Holiday

from LaineyWebb
A great hotel. The staff can't do enough for you. You can't fault the food, the hotel or the staff. THERE ARE NO LIFTS, AND THE HOTEL IS BUILT ON THE SIDE OF A HILL WITH LOADS OF STEPS, SO IF YOU ARE A LITTLE INFIRM, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE FIRST FLOOR. If it's you first time, be prepared for a little culture shock between the airport and the hotel. If you are leaving a gratuity for the housekeeping staff, please leave a note to them along with your tip. The cleaners are searched before they start work and again when they leave. If they do not have a note from you with your tip, the money will be taken from them.
It's well worth hiring a car and driver for the day (£20)to see the waterfalls and crocodiles. The driver will also recommend other places to visit. It's cheaper than going on the excersions with the rep and you can do everything at your own pace! We felt the waterfalls were a bit of an anticlimax (a full day), but it has to be done at least once (feeding the monkeys was the fun part!)
Recommended restaurants guaranteed not to give you tummy trouble are 'The Big Banana Shack, Calangute'- it's on the beach overlooking the sea. You can order your lobster here one day in advance, it's lovely. 'After Eight, Calangute' - a little more expensive but a lovely atmosphere. 'The Oceanic, Calangute' - very simple overlooking the busy street, but the food is good and cheap.
We had a great time, didn't want to come home and would go again.

Wonderful hotel

from educationofficer
4 of us went to Goa and it was the first time in India for all of us. We were booked into the Aldeia Sanata Rita but it was the worst place I have ever stayed. We complained and we paid for an upgrade to the Sun Village. To say it was a breath of fresh air was an understatement. The hotel is lovely, the rooms clean and inviting. The hotel staff are the best in the area and there is always a taxi ready to take you where ever you want to go (for v.little money). You must ask for Raj and he will be your personal driver for the whole week. You will find him in the taxi bit at the front of the hotel. I loved my holiday and the hotel made it even better. I would love to come back here and although we went at the end of the monsoon season we only saw 2 hrs of rain for the whole week. There was glorious sunshine, wonderful things to see and a great holiday!!.

our special place

from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner took me to goa for my 21st birthday as he knew i'd always wanted to visit india. He couldn't have chosen a better hotel in such a good location! The staff were always pleased to help, the only problem we found were the typical brits reserving poolside beds all day and not using them even though signs were displayed asking guests not to do this. Ive never eaten such a nice breakfast abroad before, even the bacon was nice. I wouldn't advise anyone wanting to explore the area to go all-inclusive as there is so much to do, elephant rides, spice plantations, beautiful waterfalls to visit, local markets and not forgetting all of the designer shops in the capital. STAYING AT SUN VILLAGE WAS THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!!

Best place to stay in Goa

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in Sun Village Goa during May 2004. They have one of the best service staff and amneties in Goa. Their Gold Plan is excellent which includes all the liqor that you can drink and all the food you can eat. You feel like you are in a carnival. Also best part in their plan is it includes buffet as well as La Carte.

Health club, swimming pool and other amneties are in prefect shape. Don't froget to enjoy learning scuba diving in swimming pool.:)

The best staff ever!

from MissMW
It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. The staff are the kindiest, friendliest people ever and would literally bend over backwards to see that you are comfortable and having a good holiday. The hotel room itself is very spacious, clean and air conditioned. The only thing I would say is request a room on the 1st or 2nd floor. We were on the 4th, and with no lift in 40 degree seering heat, its not a pleasant climb at all. Food was ok, although felt like school dinners at times. Standard guests get 2 vouchers on arrival to eat al a carte. I would advise to choose the BBQ night. The a la carte restaurant was average, not brilliant. Note that all inclusive drinks finish at 11pm. The facilities within the site are good (beauty palour, massage). The massages were great but was slightly shocked (maybe naive) when I was asked to strip completely naked, save from a cotton nappie that is put on you. Note ALL parts are massaged, back and front. When in rome...
You will not regret a few cans of magicool and some inoduim as tummy problems are unaviodable. At the time we went the exchange rate was 64 ruppes to £1. They offer a far better exchange rate at the hotel (74 ruppees to £1) and even better at the little convinience store on the shopping parade (84rps to £1). Be prepared to be hassled to death on baga beach (to the point where they will wake you up if asleep) from a range of people from 7 year olds selling jewellry or wanting to clean your sun glasses to 70 year olds selling fruit. Any sign of interest and you will find a small queue of people forming at your lounger to sell you things. Its very hard to get rid of them, especially the young children. I spent about 15 minutes apologising and saying no to a 8 year old begging me to buy a bracelet. After watching clearly more experienced people shake there head then look away, I realised where I was going wrong. Asvem beach north of baga is much nicer, quiet and you get hassled less. Cigarettes cost £8 for 200 and smirnoff vodka £6 a bottle. Would definately go again, but not during april, as is uncomfortably hot and extremely humid. Taxis are cheap, and drivers are happy to wait for you outside a restaurant/club/market to ensure your return fare. Anjuna market was great. remember to haggle as prices are bumped up for tourists. Halve all quoted prices to get a good deal.

Top Local Tips for Panjim

not for the elder not for the elder as there are lots of steps in this hotel it was built on split levels, we used to climb on adverage 100 steps a day, apart from that it was great

Romantic Dinner Out Try the Le Restaurant for that romantic evening out. French, excellent wines, food superb, and the cost - much less than you would pay at home.

Dugsader waterfalls Although a long way from Baga where we were staying (two hours by coach then 45 minutes in a very bumpy 4x4) it is worth it as the waterfalls were spectacular
